  1. Many happy returns (of your birthday party)
  2. Thank you very much for your kind wishes. I turned 50 and I feel that I'm only at the halfway point while having already made all the mistakes.
  3. It's much simpler than that. In our early days we had an icon of a head of a growling tiger. 'One byte at a time' was a play of words meaning that our tiger ate malware 'one bite at a time'. B)
  4. Yup, I can confirm it too. It detected loads of normal starting services as malign, wanted to stop them and my whole system froze to the point I had to shut it down with the on/off button.
  5. E-mails sent to me (fred at malwarebytes.org) won't reach me anymore. I'm not regarded important enough anymore to have my own e-mail-address.
  6. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but it might be worth a try: Trend Micro RUBotted (beta) More info and downloadable here.
  7. It certainly is the Protection Module that is causing these problems of slowing down computers. Mine slowed down to a point where I decided I needed a System Restore. I did and the problems were resolved. Then I redownloaded MBAM 1.18 and the problems re-appeared. I repeated this process again just to be sure and met with the same results. Next I turned off the Protection Module in MBAM 1.18 and re-booted. Problem solved. Ergo, the problem lies in the Protection Module.
  8. 9. Thank you, Jean. We would like to receive bugs, opinions and suggestions regarding our program.
  10. Recently we published our new little program called JavaRa. It simply checks if the version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your computer is the latest one and, if not, downloads the most recent version. It also cleans some files (log files and temp files) that JRE leaves behind. We invite you to test the program and we would welcome to hear about the problems you might or might not encounter. Also, we would like to hear about any suggestions about the program you can have. Which features would you like to be incorporated? ps: Ra is, of course, the ancient Egyptian Sun god. JavaRa is downloadable here. [14apr08] JavaRa updated to version 1.04. See Changelog here.
  11. Uhm, guys and gals, wasn't it April Fools Day yesterday? A coincidence or..?
  12. In 'Protection' there is an option to 'Check for updates automatically at..'. Another othion should be 'Check for updates automatically when the program starts'. That way you have always the available updates at the earliest possible times. You could, theoretically, become infected between the time you start your system and the time to set your auto update.
  13. If the present logo is considered too brown, we could try the same image but the of a polar bear or something like the one I've added here...
  14. Done some research about that stubborn file and it seems to be a remnant of a tool made by sUBs: Flash_Disinfector.
  15. Update to version 1.08 went smoothly. During installation I got the comctl32.ocx-message too. After hitting 'Ignore' everything went okay. Maybe we should consider giving users a download possibility for this elusive file.
  16. I wouldn't know about the reason why LinkScanner was sold but I do know why HijackThis was sold. Merijn simply hadn't the time to develop his tool any further because of his classes at university. His own words:
  17. C:\autorun.inf (lpt3.This folder was created by Flash_Disinfector)
  18. FileASSASSIN 2.0 beta can't delete a 0-bytes file in a folder called autorun.inf Folder: Size: 0 bytes Files: lpt3. This folder was created by Flash_Disinfector
  19. Download here. Scroll down. Yes, new from DOXdesk, PlaceboAV is just as effective as leading anti-virus software
  20. Didn't find any bugs while testing ViewpointKiller 1.30 beta. Keep up the good works!
  21. Something strange happened... When updating to version 1.04 the existing version 1.03 detected mbam.exe as something bad. I had to hit 'Ignore' to be allowed to unpack the file.
  22. Worked nicely. As the removed file name is left in the box, I would like to see a 'Clear' button to remove that file name.
