  1. I also have GoToAssist on my computer and I believe it to be an application Dell support techs use to remotely control your computer for diagnosis and repair. Have either of you had Dell tech support assistance via remote control?
  2. It's been awhile since I installed MBAM so I really can't remember if there was an option to make MBAM my default scanner. If there is, maybe I didn't un-check it. Is there an option for that during the initial install?
  3. So you are saying that you have both options listed in your right click menu, either scan with MBAM OR scan with your resident AV? Is there a way to add my resident AV to the menu?
  4. I have MBAM installed and now when I right click a file or folder I do not have the option of scanning it with my resident AV. The only scan option I have is to scan with MBAM. Is there a way to add my resident AV to this menu and keep MBAM. Or do I have to uninstall MBAM in order to have my resident AV listed? Thank You.
  5. Hi AdvancedSetup, thanks for all your help to this point. Before I tried your latest suggestion, just out of curiosity, I ran the developer scan while I was in my Admin account instead of my standard account. I did not get the "Swiss Army failed to initialize Error Code 5" message. I also have to either use "run as administrator" or my admin account when I want to update MBAM's database. So I guess these issues have to do with Vista's UAC. Thanks again for taking the time to help me.
  6. Jean, my machine is performing great. I appreciate your help but I don't think running all those different scans and generating a HiJackThis log is really necessary at this time. I only wanted to know if letting MBAM remove the item it detected would be safe to do. I do not want to remove something that could negatively impact how my machine performs.
  7. No, it is the 32 Bit version. I remember seeing a list of the error codes and what each one meant. Do you know where that is?
  8. Thank you for your time and advice. I am not sure what you are referring to when you say Access Denied. Is this in reference to the message "Swiss Army failed to initialize Error Code 5"? I am using the free version of MBAM.
  9. Hi Jean, I am not aware of having one of those toolbars listed. And do you have any idea about that Swiss Army error code 5 message. Thanks.
  10. Thank You sho_dan, I believe I successfully posted my log in the appropriate thread. Your help is greatly appreciated.
  11. Here is my log file. Could someone please tell me if it is safe to remove this infected item? Also, when I started the developer scan I got the message "Swiss Army failed to initialize Error Code 5", but the scan did continue to run and completed. 12. Could someone please tell me where I need to go to find out the instructions for posting my MBAM log and what thread would be the appropriate one for posting this log to. MBAM indicates I have an infected registry key called Adware Softmate and i would like to have one of the professionals evaluate whether or not is can safely be removed. Some general questions and observations; 1. if an item is listed as infected but no action(ignore or remove) is taken before clicking Exit or Main Menu, a log file is not generated. 2. if an infected item is Removed a copy of that item is put in quarantine. can that item be restored to its original location if it is determined it is a FP? 3. where can I find instructions on using MBAM?
