  1. Thank you so much for your help and taking the time to explain things. I really appreciate it and I'm glad there are people like you out there to assist with such issues.
  2. Things have been running well since I followed your instructions. As for the scan, no threats were detected ans as you said, no log file was present for me to export as a result. Also, thank you for the feedback on the prevention questions I posed. Is there anything else that I should test for?
  3. In regards to whether or not I'm going to format and reinstall the OS on this computer, I will have to hold off on that until I get permission from my fiance since this isn't my laptop. I'm sure that she'll say yes, provided the security risks that could have occured due to the rootkit that was present. For now, I'm just happy that the system is clean at least to some extent. On that note, to keep this system clean from here on out, what programs/software do you recommend that she use on this system? What about particular plugins for a browser such as Firefox might help as well? We use a hardware firewall through a router that we have, if that helps any. Right now, I have Avira anti virus and MBAM on and not much else. I'm willing to spend money on security so that this doesn't occur again, so that's not an issue. I appreciate all that you've done thus far to help me remedy this problem. Here's my MBAM log: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 4420 Windows 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18943 8/11/2010 10:06:09 PM mbam-log-2010-08-11 (22-06-09).txt Scan type: Full scan (C:\|D:\|) Objects scanned: 306007 Time elapsed: 2 hour(s), 35 minute(s), 21 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected)
  4. Here's my ComboFix.txt I've also included the ComboFix.txt as an attachment in case that's helpful: ComboFix 10-08-10.03 - Kristin 08/11/2010 1:13.1.1 - x86 Microsoft ComboFix.txt
  5. All of the browsers that I use (Firefox and occasionally IE) have been constantly redirecting to other pages that have nothing to do with what I'm clicking on in search engines of any kind. I would appreciate any help that I could get to help remedy this problem. Thank you in advance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 4412 Windows 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18928 8/10/2010 1:06:10 AM mbam-log-2010-08-10 (01-06-10).txt Scan type: Full scan (C:\|D:\|) Objects scanned: 306191 Time elapsed: 3 hour(s), 0 minute(s), 44 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected) DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Kristin at 20:37:57.25 on Mon 08/09/2010 Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18928 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_18 Microsoft attach.zip
