  1. Oh, thanks. I was clicking on one of the two scan buttons on the home page and, despite looking, did not see the one that has the custom scan option. I keep hearing about pcs infected from thumb drives, hence my paranoia.
  2. With the old version I used to be able to choose which drive to scan, C, E, or C & E. i can't figure out how to get the new version to scan anything but C. C is my main drive, of course. E usually has a thumb drive. Thanks. I'm running XP.
  3. No, it is not being addressed by support. The same support guy who completely misunderstood a previous bug report I made months ago is misunderstanding this one, as you will see if you read my posting. His directions do not apply to my problem because the problem he describes is not the problem my system is having. Antimalware is a great program in general, but tech support is bad. I will attempt to get a refund for the two versions of Pro that I bought. The program is useless without tech support and when bad tech support shuts off help form the forum. I will just take my laptop to local computer folks to figure out and then run some other protective software.
  4. I am reposting this because the support guy who misread/misunderstood my bug report (as I informed him) has locked my original forum request for help. I hope someone who reads carefully will answer me before he locks this one too. I wasted a lot of time with him about a previous bug before someone else rescued me a few months ago. Tom, do not lock this, thanks. I'm running Windows XP SP3. The cursor freezes a few seconds after the Desktop appears. I have MalwareBytes Pro latest version 1.61.0.1400 database v2012.04.26.04 installed. Following some info I found on the net, I brought the system up in Diagnostic mode, whatever that is, and the cursor does not freeze. If I disable via msconfig all the Start stuff and bring it up in normal mode, the cursor freezes. I did a full scan and Antimalware reported no problems. (By the way, I cannot move from one tab to the other in antimalware with control tab, how is one supposed to do that when the keypad is non-functional?) Any idea what evil thing is freezing my cursor? I assume it is malware of some sort due to it not happening in diagnostic mode. I sent in this question to Malwarebytes Support, and they pointed me to a FAQ section about Antimalware itself freezing due to a conflict with antivirus programs but that is irrelevant to this. I am not running AVG whatever that is, and it is not Antimalware that freezes. Antimalware in fact works fine if I drive it with the keyboard, except for not finding a problem. Thanks.

  6. I bought antimalware PRO awhile back and always have it running while my laptop is on. When I had the free version I ran full scan a lot, but I pretty much stopped doing that once PRO was installed, thinking it would catch anything the scan would detect. Possibly a mistake. Once a day or so I see antimalware update itself. This morning it said there was a new version, so I let it install that. Then it said the database was 17 days out of date (I guess the new version was packaged with an old database?) so I updated that and then ran a full scan. It reported two things, and I can't see anything on the web saying what they are: Vendor PUP.BundleOffers.iiq Category File Item C:\System Volume Information\_restore{F632489B-16E2-4DC3-9ADC-CD222E949B4A}\RP55\A0037919.exe The other was the same except the end of item was \RP56\A0038314.exe Any ideas? Thanks.
  7. p.s. I never do a quick scan, always a full scan, that is perhaps why mine take half an hour instead of a few minutes.
  8. Thanks. I have never had the free version hang, and the Pro version only hangs if I say ignore instead of remove, so I don't think this problem matches the hang scenarios you pointed me at. What baffles me is what is it doing - 1. Does the Pro version start a rescan after I tell it to ignore items (but without telling me it is doing a rescan)? The non-Pro version does not seem to do that. Even if it were rescanning, surely it ought to let me abort out? 2. Or is it hung in some other fashion because of the ignore - If I say remove instead, it completes in a nanosecond. I personally think it is hanging and this is a bug, or it has started a rescan for some unknown reason without telling the user and without letting them stop it. Unfortunately, I have been going round and round with Support, which is not reading my questions/information carefully and is making me sorry I bought the pro version. A scan normally takes a half an hour on my older system. That has been true ever since I started using the free version a year or so ago. Thanks if anyone can provide a clue. I think it is broken and Malwarebytes has no interest in the bug report, myself.
  9. Ever since I upgraded to Pro, I have the following problem: Windows XP. I update antimalware pro. Scan which says it completes, then says click on show results for problems. Always the same two non-problems, I have Security Center no antivirus warning and no updates. I set ignore them. I try to exit, but it says a scan is in progress do I really want to exit. Also in this state when I click on other tabs, it just does nothing. I am not running any other application. Is it actually doing something for an eternal time or is it hung up?
  10. Me too. Too early in the morning for this stuff :-(
  11. The answer appears to be that the thumb drive wasn't infected, fortunately. Although I still don't know if antimalware Pro protects against Data Recovery.

  13. I was told that I should post this in this forum, rather than in the one I posted in it originally. You can see that logs and so on are not pertinent and not obtainable, my questions are only about the flash drive and Pro. Thanks. What I posted: My laptop got infected with [some variant of Data Recovery]. It is sufficiently "normal" looking (no broken English, etc.) that I was convinced I actually had disk and RAM problems. By poking around I found that my files were hidden and managed to copy them to a flash drive. Then I was going to e-cycle the laptop and since I couldn't get the disk out, did my best to really erase it including system files. Then I decided to have the laptop repaired, but the repair guy told me it was a virus. He's fixing it since I'd already deleted so much it won't boot. My questions are, now I have the flash drive to deal with. I'm assuming it's infected. Instead of having him fix that, I would like to try to disinfect it myself. I don't really care about the files on it since I have a recent backup, but I'd like to save the flash drive. (1) I have a backup laptop that I can risk. Should it be safe and sufficient to attach the flash drive to that and run antimalware on it and then on the laptop's drive? (2) Do I understand that if I were running antimalware Pro it would have protected my system from infection with this? Thanks.
