  1. Thanks for the information. I guess no one is very impressed with this software.....
  2. I have a Toshiba Satelite Pro 850 with Windows 7. Is SmartPC fix a desirable program to download and use? Or is it not necesssary on this computer? Thanks.
  3. Thank you so much. This seems to have worked for me, too... What a relief.
  4. I have the fixit tool, but it will not install. Only goes so far and then tells me: must sign out of "msn video" to continue. I cannot figure out how to do that. BTW I am using Firefox. Thanks for your answer. From another site it seems the easiest thing to do is to change Automatic Updates to "notify me but do not download or install" and then go to the Update Site and, using Custom, choose the ones I want.... Thanks again, and If you have any info on the sign out thing, thanks..
  5. I am using a Toshiba Satellite A100 Laptop with windows XP, Avast, Malwarebytes, Window Defender, CCleaner and a router (even though I am the only computer). Since yesterday, Windows Automatic Updates (the latest 3 Security updates) have announced they were ready to be installed and so I did; and then they told me 5 minutes later the same thing and the same thing and the same thing. At the end of the Installation it says Complete. I asked "Just Ask" and they said I should download Windows Fit It tool, which I did. But, the tool cannot be installed; it gets partway and tells me that I must sigh out of msn video so that the loading may continue. Can't figure out how to sign out. Also wonder if that Fix It tool is really necessary or if there is another way to fix this.. I have run everything I have on my computer as mentioned before and nothing shows as out of order. Haven't installed any new software or anything. Maybe I clicked on something??? I could not shut down the computer yesterday until I finally checked the box to stop Automatic Downloads. Then I could sign out and turn off the computer. What have I gotten myself into here? Any ideas or suggestions?
  6. Wow. Even I could follow those instructions and, after I did, no problem whatsoever. Thanks a lot for your time.
  7. I am using Windows XP Pro SP3. Mozilla latest version; Malwarebytes version 1.46 up to date. Can't open the Malwarebytes screen (scan, update, protection, etc.) unless I unpin Malwarebytes from the start menu. Then I can see it and I can update (which I have made automatic from today). When I try to scan, the program will scan up to 1800 or so files and then a message pops up saying that Dr Watson debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. After which Malwarebytes either gives me the same message or simply freezes.. If I click on the icon on the bottom of the computer or the file name of Malwarebytes in the program list, I get a message stating that Malwarebytes is already running. (This is why I needed to unpin the program from the start menu). I guess I want to know if I am still getting the full protection of Malwarebytes even though I cannot scan. The program is up to date... So I hope it is stopping any thing that tries to sneak on while it is working. I do get notification from time to time that it has blocked a site that is dangerous. Do I need to do anything? Or just take it easy??
  8. Goggle for me. If I use Bing, it brings up all the sites in Japanese (as I am in Japan, I assume) and does not give me as many sites overall as Goggle does.
  9. And for me. Well, I am thinking the site was down for some reason of their own; wish they would have said that. I know that Pogo or King games, etc., always tells you when they are down. Anyway, looks like the CCleaner site is just fine. Thanks to all who looked and all who answered. Another problem goes away. LOL
  10. Thanks for that!! Gives me a bit of relief. BTW, my question on the CCleaner site that shows Server Error '/' Application when I try to get on through my bookmark or through Goggle is just fine if I use Bing Search of Microsoft.... Who knows?? Ah, the mysteries of science.
  11. I recently posted What Now?. When I try to open it, I cannot.... So I am starting this next post. Searching the net, some sites give me the advice to upgrade to >Net Framework 2.0 (Now I have 1.1) and that should solve any problems I have. What say you? I am afraid to mess around too much for fear of really screwing the whole thing up. So far, only the CCleaner site gives me the Server Error problem (plus not being able to see my prior post on Malwarebytes. Thanks
  12. Just when everything is running nicely.... I wanted to go on the CCleaner site today, so clicked on my bookmark for it and, oh, Lordy. Got: Server Error in '/' Application. No luck after some hours, either. I cannot think of anything I have added to the computer/taken off the computer, etc. What in heck is happening here? I ran Malbytes and Avast anti-virus scan, as well as CCleaner. Nothing showed up on these things. Have I unknowingly changed some setting somewhere? Just get a little confidence on the computer and, bingo, shot down again. Any comments/help would be appreciated.
  13. Thank you for this post. It is like a breath of fresh air. Believe you have hit right on a basic fact that many groups conveniently forget - nature is - really - awesome. And mankind is really kind of puny.....
  14. marktreq, I spent 5 minutes trying to find out how to get the bug off my screen....
  15. Actually, I followed GT500's instructions. Got the download, started to install. The program told me I had to restart and then run setup again, which I did. All is installed with no problems. Works fine. Thanks so much for your answer(s) and assistance. Appreciate it.
