  1. My Opera (not default browser) version 12.14 does not have any issues with MBAE with my computer specs as listed in my sig....

That is with the latest version of MBAE? Not that I want to run an old version of Opera though. At least version 12.16 is still going to get security updates!

  2. May be a dumb question, but Firefox just received an update, meaning Seamonkey and Palemoon have also.

I have Seamonkey on 1 machine and Palemoon on another. I updated my Seamonkey earlier today but had forgotten that I had already renamed the seamonkey.exe to forefox so update failed. I then renamed the firefox.exe back to seamonkey.exe and updater had to download the full install instead of just the update, but again, that update failed. :(

On this machine I hadn't renamed the palemoon.exe yet so went ahead and updated it and then renamed the file to firefox.exe.

So, the dumb question is, should I rename the original file back to original name before updating. I know that after my first attempt at updating Seamonkey and then renaming the file back to Seamonkey AFTER that full download attempt wrecked everything! Uninstalled Seamonkey on that machine temporarily.

    Thanks

  3. Going to assume that this trick should work with Seamonkey also then, maybe? Not totally based on Firefox, but built by the Mozilla team.

If that trick doesn't work, will Seamonkey ever be supported?

    Thank you

Just in case you're not familiar with Seamonkey:

The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey all-in-one internet application suite (see below). Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email & newsgroup client with an included web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users.

powered_by_mozilla_small.png Under the hood, SeaMonkey uses much of the same Mozilla source code which powers such successful siblings as Firefox, Thunderbird, Camino, Sunbird and Miro. Legal backing is provided by the Mozilla Foundation.

  4. Hi cork1958, sorry to hear you've such a lousy experience. I'm running MBAE on Win7 with Opera, Firefox and their relevant privacy add-ons (Ghostery,Self-Destructing Cookies and Disconnect), along with tons of other apps that auto-startup when Win7 boots. What other apps/processes are running in the background when you start Opera up? Does disabling MBAE, starting up Opera and re-enabling MBAE solve the problem for you?

@pbust - is it possible for outdated Java/Flash/Windows components to cause Opera to crash when MBAE is run?

Just installed newest MBAE on a different machine using Opera 12.16.

Exiting MBAE first, opening Opera and restarting MBAE, DOES NOT cause Opera to crash!!

Not using it this way though. I know it'll be fixed sometime soon, hopefully!

  5. Done, thanks for pointing this out.

Shouldn't. We'll take a closer look at this. Just out of curiosity, why does nobody want to upgrade to Opera 15 which doesn't seem to have any issues with MBAE?

As I stated in my first reply to you. The new Opera sucks, plain and simple. Tons of complaints in the Opera forums and a couple other tech sites I visit. I have actually installed it once now, just to see how bad it is, and it's ridiculously crappy! The main thing I hate about it though, is they quit using their own Presto engine and switched to that crap Chrome engine!

  6. I have Win7 32 bit and 64 bit and and various different versions, Professional, Ultimate and Home Premium of Win 7.

I use no ridiculous addons other than adblock in Seamoneky and Easylist ad protection in IE9, As far as Opera goes, there is NO addons installed except flashplayer and that is almost always disabled, in all browsers unless I need it.

Currently, with 1 tab open in Opera I have a total of 29 processes running, with Opera being 1 and MBAE being another. I DO NOT let programs auto start and almost always refuse to let anything do anything automatically.

The only 2 items in the system tray that are loaded is my Windows 7 firewall control and MBAE, version 0.9.2, still.

  7. Oh yes I forgot to add - you might want to ask users to do the following additional steps for a clean install of MBAE:

    - Clean registry of old MBAE entries by using a program like CCleaner

    - Delete the folder that the previous version of MBAE created during installation (C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes)

    - Make sure you run the new MBAE installer as Admin in Win7 (right-click .exe file and select "Run as Administrator")

My Opera (v12.16) kept crashing after I installed a previous version of MBAE until I tried to do a "clean" install and added the above steps into my installation process. Hope this helps someone trying to get Opera working with MBAE.

    FWIW,

I do all of that every time I uninstall anything and also delete anything that might get into the programs/common programs folder and anything in my User/low/local folders and I run my computers as administrator all the time.

    @pbust,

Please do not incorporate an automatic updater into this thing until it's TOTALLY right, which it is FAR from right now!

  8. The new version of MBAE IS NOT working correctly with Opera 12.16!

Just did a fresh install of MBAE, fired up Opera and instantaneous crash!

I DO NOT have any news feeder or anything similar to it running. In fact, I do not have any addons or anything running and even flashplayer is disabled!

  9. Yes,

I have Opera 12.16 and from what I've read about Opera 15, I'm NOT installing that next to unusable piece of junk! Opera even knows 15 is junk as my updater for Opera doesn't  detect a new version!

The Opera forums are full of complaints about it.

    Thanks for the reply :)

  10. As per my issue here, http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=120640 it has now been resolved all by itself.

After getting the last Windows update, the platform update, everything is now working perfectly! That update included the following fixes:

This article describes a platform update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This update improves the features and performance of the following components:

    Direct2D

    DirectWrite

    Direct3D

    Windows Imaging Component (WIC)

    Windows Advanced Rasterization Platform (WARP)

    Windows Animation Manager (WAM)

    XPS Document API

    H.264 Video Decoder

    JPEG XR codec

What ever that had to do with anything does not matter, but the only other issue I had on this computer was that my "services" windows would not scroll and always had my windows desktop image bleed though on the left side of that window. Now, it scrolls perfectly and no more bleeding!!

    Yay!!

This is nothing more than a FYI post.

  11. I only said not totally comfortable and I did say I sent the files in, so I'm willing to accept the help, but sure would've seemed more logical to finish my original topic in case anyone else came along with this peculiar issue I'm having. At least that's how most forums I participate in seem to work.

  12. Don't know why a topic that is not resolved gets locked, but I have found a work a round for my issues of the tabs not working in the new version of Malwarebytes. If I click a tab and the hit the alt key, the tabs will work.

The below link is to that topic I started that is locked. I have ran the tools requested and sent in the files and am awaiting a response, but very doubtful if I follow through with any more of the suggestions as I am not totally comfortable sending in info to someone I have no clue who they are and I only get on that particular computer maybe once a week!

    http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=120326

I DO appreciate the help and maybe the next Mbam update will fix this issue on this computer. Until then, good luck to all!! :)

  13. If there isn't a clean way to replace the logo without a reboot, then why did that happen on only 2 computers and not the other 5? That just proves that reply is a bunch of bull!

I will do that mbam check the next time I'm on that computer which won't be for another day or two. As of this moment, Mbam is not installed on it. Do I need to try and install it first and if Mbam does not work correctly, then run that tool? That machine has been thoroughly cleaned of Mbam with your mbam removal tool, crapcleaner and another registry checking program I have, so there should be NO trace of Mbam on it.

  14. Hi cork1958 :)

I can answer a couple of your questions.

First off the reason why MBAM requires a reboot on those 2 computers is because it replaces the logo for the right click scanning. Windows sometimes is using certain files so therefore a reboot maybe needed.

You can't edit your post until you have made 50 posts. We've had a few bad eggs abuse this so that's why this is necessary.

It replaced the logo on all 8 computers (obviously) so still seems ridiculous that only 2 out of 8 computers needed a reboot. I see no reason why a program that does not start automatically with Windows would EVER require a reboot and even if Mbam tried to start automatically with Windows, I would disable that junk!!

    cork1958,

Please help us help you. We tested 1.70 extensively and you only reported an issue with one computer. We appreciate the feedback, but please give us some details so we have something to work with. OS? Security software installed? Hardware specifications? Is this computer experiencing any other issues?

You are certainly welcome to use other programs in place of ours, but you seem to have a continued interest in using our product. We try very hard to make it not "crap."

We want to help you very much.

The machine that is having the installation issue is Winodws 7 Ultimate with just Avast anti virus running and even that has been disabled on one of the reinstallation attempts. Hardware should not matter. It's just a plane jane computer, that is VERY clean and has NO other issues. I KNOW what I'm doing on a computer!

You have to figure that if this update affected "only" 1 out of 8 of my computers, what would 1 out of every 8 computers that Mbam is installed on in the world equate to?

Yes, I have a continued interest in Mbam as it is a very good program which along with SuperAntiSpyware, is just about guaranteed to remove ALL the nasties. Just ask any of my over 3,000 customers!! :)

    Thank you

  15. First off, I'd like to know what the issue is with this thing asking to restart the computer on 2 of my boxes and NOT the other 5 and now I have an issue on computer #8 updating where none of the tabs in Mbam work, which makes it totally useless!

These program updates are/have gotten to be totally and stupidly ridiculous!! Almost scared to death to update this thing, especially since that fiasco a while back where it screwed up network connections and basically made whole computer useless! Do you people actually test this crap?!

I have uninstalled Mbam twice manually and then ran that stupid mbam cleanup tool also on third uninstall. Downloaded a fresh copy of Mbam after each install also. Still the same issue where I can't click the tabs at the top of Mbam. That's a lie. I can click them all day, but they do absolutely nothing!

    Thank you
