  2. Depends. Ethernet will work out of the box on any distro, but you'll need to install extra drivers to get wireless working. A distro like Ubuntu should be able to automatically pull them from the net via Ethernet (you just have to go to System → Administration → Additional Drivers to install them). You don't need one on Linux. Antiviruses for Linux mostly scan for Windows viruses anyway. If you want to feel secure, revoke all unnecessary permissions from your account and disable sudo. That way, nothing will be able to write outside your home directory. For creating data discs, try CDBurnerXP. For simply burning images, you might want ImgBurn.
  3. Like Bruce said it's TDSS rootkit. Any actual in depth research would tell you this. Even a quick Google search is enough for this one. Wasn't it that Ed Bott guy who wrote that misleading anti-Firefox article, too? Edit: Aha, found it: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/why-internet-explorer-will-survive-and-firefox-wont/3064 He's a funny guy. Haha.
  4. Do what Firefox said ( download drivers from http://support.dell.com/ ), I work with Dell comps all the time at work experience, you can barely miss the right files if you enter the correct service tag or model number. If you plan on getting online just to download Linux, then the Ethernet driver will be enough.
  5. I'm glad I'm not a target of those e-mails, haha. Good song though.
  6. Hi Gravity, You probably shouldn't worry if it doesn't happen again and if no actual files are detected, but don't take me by my word. Someone else might know more. If you think you might have malware on your system anyway, please have a look here. Thanks.
  7. The best is orange and tangerine juice though. I love that stuff.
  8. I don't understand your attitude one bit. If you've spent long enough on the Internet, you would know that "hacking and pirating" doesn't equal "bad". Why you don't understand that is beyond me as you certainly seem to have spent a while online. By the way, a sense of humour can't be funny or unfunny. It can be good or bad, and that's a matter of personal preference. If you have a problem with me personally, I'd be more than happy to settle it in a private discussion. I'm quite in the mood today.
  9. Haha... Honey vodka is better than wine though, you have to try it if you never did.
  10. They take one down, another guy's gonna pop up and continue the job. The police thinks they can play authority. There are no authorities on the Internet. Get used to it. Enjoy playing cyber police while you can, but Anonymous is going to win.
  11. I have your IP address and I'm gonna hack you! Fear me! Just kidding, don't worry.
  12. It's easy to spit on others' alleged "insecurity" if your security is crap. It's a bit too obvious what they're doing here. If they cared about users' security, they would start from making their products not suck.
  13. Have you even tried running them on your current system? Or how about an alternative? http://download.openoffice.org/ Why run terribly outdated, deprecated software when there's new, much better software that does the same? OpenOffice 3.0 will run on Windows 2000 and newer.
  14. No. I specifically meant DosBox if your applications are DOS-based or VirtualBox if you need at least Windows to run them.
  15. Windows 98 is dead, and CIH died with it. There's no point in running an antivirus on Windows 98, unless you want to additionally slow down the poor 10+ year old machine. As for software not being compatible with newer operating systems, have you tried virtualizing Windows 98 in any way?
