  1. Thanks daledoc1. I don't normally use Hyper Scan, but did this once to see if a "quick" scan would change the MBAM icon, afterwards. At the time, and mistakenly as Porthos pointed out, I thought the icon was trying to indicate an issue. I regularly use Threat Scan, so no worries there. I'm already using the most current MBAM Version (V2.2.1.1043). cps
  2. Good eye, Porthos, and thanks for the heads up. Color me embarrassed! Although, in my defense, I think I'm somewhat a victim of the limited color selection/intensity for the task bar/system tray in Windows 10, like there was in previous versions of Windows (7, 8). The result is the MBAM icon in the system tray being hard to discern (but, definitely not greyed out). Let's close this issue. cps
  3. Today, I noticed the MBAM system tray icon is greyed out. I also have MBAE; it is showing normal. I checked MBAM status (dashboard) and settings, to make sure everything was okay. I then ran update, and everything appears normal. I ran Hyper Scan, with everything reporting okay. Kaspersky Total Security reports no issues. Finally, I forced a shutdown and cold restart of the system. The SysTray icon continues to be greyed out. In case I missed something, I attach screenshots of: System Tray, MBAM Dashboard, MBAM Advanced Settings, MBAM Detection Settings. I also attach copies of the above mentioned scan log, as well as the current Protection Log. I believe MBAM to be current. System is Surface Pro 3, Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, fully updated as required/recommended by MSFT. TIA, cps MBAM Protection Log.txt MBAM Scan Log.txt
  4. Since this topic hasn't been closed yet, per my last comment, I'll provide an update: I've now been running Win10, Build 10130, for 5 days and the MBAM icon has been stable in the system notification tray. So, I guess this problem was due to some artifact in Build 10074 after all, and not in MBAM. cps
  5. I haven't received any more suggestions regarding this issue for a week, so I'm presuming my suspicion that it might be an artifact of the current state of Windows 10, build 10074, as I mentioned in post #6. I can only report that the MBAM icon continues to disappear at sporadic random intervals of system uptime. Since only the icon disappears, while MBAM remains active, I'm not overly concerned. I presume the development folks at Malwarebytes will monitor this behavior as Win10 builds mature. I suggest this topic be closed. cps
  6. Yep, everything is as it should be (see screenshot):
  7. @Becky Dubrow I checked advanced settings for threat scans in the scheduler, and "Terminate program when no threats are found" option has, in fact, not been invoked (that is, it's unchecked). How did you determine otherwise? I also confirm that "Enable self protection" has not been invoked. cps
  8. @Maurice Naggar Perhaps I didn't explain myself clearly in my original posting of this thread, so I'll try to be more explicit. When I boot up Win10, MBAM v2.1.6.1022 starts just fine now, and the proper icon appears in the system notification tray. After an indeterminate period, the icon disappears from the notification tray. Checking Task Manager, MBAM processes appear to be running, confirmed when I run mbam-check v2.1.1.1001 (as per the screen shot and check log I provided in the original post). Ron Lewis suggested in post #3 to perform a clean re-install of MBAM, which I did, but as far as I can tell, everything is the same. He suggests removing MBAE from compatibility mode (not sure of the interaction between MBAE and MBAM, so I also reinstalled MBAE and the Hotkey he highlights is still reported in the check log report (attached) as: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\appCompatFlags\Layers C:\Program Files (x86)\MBAE\mbae.exeREG_SZ ~ RUNASADMIN When checking MBAE program properties, Compatibility Mode is unchecked. Also, there seems to be no option how MBAE gets installed other than specifying directory locations, so I don't know what else can be done; I'm not keen on making changes via regedit. So, my current status is that both MBAM and MBAE processes are running, and icons are active in the system notification tray for the moment. As for the taskbar, my preference is to use it only for active applications, rather than as a repository for shortcuts (that's what the left side of the Start Menu is for, IMHO). I understand that disappearing icons in the system notification tray, may be a Win10 issue. My raising this query was simply intended to alert you folks of the issue, in case there's a problem within MBAM itself or whether you want to alert MSFT of the issue. BTW, I note mbam-check misreports OS as Win8 (and version/build) in the check result log, rather than Win10. Please note I am running a native Win10 environment on SPro, with Win8 completely removed. Something else you might want to look into. cps CheckResults.txt
  9. Update to my previous post, I attach mbam-check-2.1.1.1001 results in case it provides any useful information. cps CheckResults.txt
  10. Now that the saga of getting MBAM operational on Win10 build 10074 has been resolved overall, there seems to be a minor issue (I think) of the MBAM icon normally resident in the system notification tray disappearing. I say disappearing, rather than missing, because the icon is resident on system boot-up, but disappears after some time. Checking Windows Task Manager, MBAM appears to be resident. See attached screen capture. Can anyone: 1. Verify that MBAM is, in fact, active per the screen shot? 2. Advise if this is a known issue with Win10? 3. Suggest how icon can be re-established? TIA, cps
  11. Yep, all settings for updates are as they should be, so no issue there. I guess it's just an issue of throttling updates. cps
  12. Thanks for the interjection, Firefox. That seems to have done the trick. MBAM appears to be running fine, now. I had followed Jekko's suggestion regarding using Clean-Removal to uninstall MBAM, but didn't follow through with downloading the latest version in the link he provided. I presumed (wrongly, as it turns out), that by downloading the version via the link provided by Cleverbridge and the automatic update of MBAM executable ensuing, that I would have the latest version, as I had reported in post #10. Presuming V2.1.6.1022 is, in fact the latest release and not a beta, I wonder why MBAM update wouldn't provide it; as it happened, it only provided V2.0.4.1028. Perhaps the folks at Malwarebytes can look into this so others aren't lulled into thinking they have the latest version. Since MBAE is exhibiting the same issues, I'll have to make sure I have the latest release. Again, thanks very much for your interjection. cps
  13. Update to my previous post. In article https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/167373-windows-10-mbam-chameleon-anti-rootkit-cannot-run-0xc0000279/, it's recommended to turn off Self Protection. Anticipating you might ask me to do the same, I purged MBAM (via MBAM_Clean), reinstalled MBAM and ensured Self Protection was not enabled. Doesn't seem to help. cps
  14. Couldn't run the diagnostic mbam_check. See Error Message (same as reported previously). It took a bit, but I finally figured out I could run MBAM once after I had installed it. If I restart the system, MBAM fails to run. As requested, I provide a screenshot of the advanced settings. Curiously, you'll see the MBAM icon with a warning, although I don't seem to have a way to figure out what the actual warning is. Note: I install MBAM from a file "mbam-consumer', link provided by Cleverbridge. Upon running update, it immediately notifies of a new version. It appears, once updated, I'm running MBAM v2.0.4.1028. I presume that's the latest build release, other than betas. If I should be running a different version, could you provide a link (perhaps via personal message) to the alternate download file of MBAM. BTW, MBAE is showing similar behavior. Thanks for taking an interest, cps
  15. Yes, I'm fully aware of all MSFT guidelines re: Windows 10 technical previews. No need to state the obvious!!
  16. Thanks for your insightful suggestions. I had already tried those before making my original post. Per your suggestion of reinstalling Win10 using the ISO of build 10074, I did just that (which is why there was a delay in my response to you). I had the same result. MBAM just won't play with Win10, always faulting with the system error I had previously noted. Getting MBAM to work on Win10 isn't a big priority for me, but by making this post I was simply trying to alert you folks that there might be a problem you should be aware of. From my trials to date, there are other softwares, some even from MSFT, that also don't seem to play nice under Win10 (for example, before 10074, Store wouldn't work!). FYI, I had one occasion where I got MBAM installed, and icons seemed to behave as they should, but MBAM crashed out when I tried to perform a scan, with a system error similar to the one I previously posted. Let me know if you come across any other insights and/or suggestions regarding MBAM and Win10. I'll periodically try to install MBAM; if I make positive headway, I'll let you know. cps
  17. I'll try to be more expansive in this reply, as you've requested. First, with respect to Win10, I subscribe to slow updates, so a new install is performed as Microsoft releases new builds. There are occasional updates within each build, mostly security and Defender definitions related. With respect to MBAM, I executed the clean removal procedure; it was messy, since the removal tool reported an execution error. When I checked running tasks, it was still active. Eventually it ran to completion and MBAM had been removed. I then downloaded and installed MBAM version (including new version update) and it seemed to run, at least to update definitions. When I restarted the system, MBAM did indeed start up, this time without error. However, when I initiated a full threat scan, it started up but then faulted. From that point forward, MBAM would not start, always showing the same system error message (see attached). FYI, I performed the clean uninstall and reinstall twice, with the same result. I'm not sure running Win10 in VM mode provides the same operational environment as in native Win10, since the VM host system provides hosting services that may be protecting applications such as MBAM. Also, it could very well be that Win10 Build 10074 is still shaky and the next build release may play more nicely with applications such as MBAM. In any event, thanks for your quick response. If you have any other suggestions or comments, please feel free to share them. cps
  18. I apologize in advance if others have raised this issue. I'm running the technical preview of Windows 10 (build 10074) and MBAM fails to start. I tried to download a new version, but the MBAM installer also failed. The problem may, in fact, be particular to this build. As far as I know, MBAM seemed to run fine under build 10040). Anyone else experiencing this issue or have suggestions on how I can get MBAM operational again? TIA cps
  19. system-log.txtFRST.txtAddition.txtmbar-log-2015-02-03 (08-59-05).txtOn checking my system, I also have multiple (4) csrss.exe.mui files on my system. So I started following your suggestions regarding running Anti-Rootkit and FRST. Mbar reported no issues. I attach all resulting logs. Anything I should be worried about?
  20. Okay, Marius. All done ... ran Delfix and TFC without any problems. Thank you very much for your assistance. Best of the holiday season to you and wish you a happy and healthy 2015! cps
  21. All actions performed as specified. It appears my system is reasonably clean. WRT to Systemcheck, fragmentation of drive is not an issue, since all drives are solid state. I attach resultant logs cps AdwCleanerR0.txt AdwCleanerS0.txt JRT Log.txt Securitycheck checkup log.txt
  22. Ran ESET online scanner as requested, but did not have option to 'Run as Adminstrator. See attached log for list of all threats found. Note: I had disable Microsoft Essentials realtime protection, as well as Malwarebytes online Protection and Website Protection, prior to running ESET. Thanks and looking forward to your further comments/recommendations. cps ESET Threat Log.txt
  23. Followed your instructions as specified. Revo Uninstaller seems to have removed SearchMe Toolbar, etc. per Control Panel>Programs and Features. MBAM scan, after product update, reported no issues. Attached History File refers. Thanks, again cps MBAM Log - 05Dec2014.txt
  24. Thank you for your very quick response to my query. I appreciate it. Ran both GMER.exe and TDSSKiller.exe, as specified, and attach resultant logs. Regards, cps Ark.txt TDSSKiller.3.0.0.41_04.12.2014_08.11.21_log.txt
  25. Somehow, I got infected with the SearchMe 'virus' (yeah, I know, it's not a real virus but it sure acted like one!). I probably got it when I installed a new version of Windows 7 - Codec Pack. I tried to uninstall SearchMe the regular Win7 way, then went on to delete all related files I could find in the various directories. But the entry in Control Panel>Programs and Features persists. I attach some relevant logs: FRST.txt, Addition.txt, RKreport_SCN. TIA cps Addition.txt FRST.txt RKreport_SCN_11232014_182908.log
