  1. I suggest Ublock origin instead of Adblock plus. That is good. The free version of Malwarebytes should not cause issues in case you ever wish to use it. Again thanks for the extra info. And best wishes.
  2. Be safe. Sorry things did not work out. I understand the frustration when things do not go as expected. I know we could have assisted getting things running correctly. But that is beside the point at this time. Last query, When it was working, did Malwarebytes detect anything during its scans?
  3. Do you have any other 3rd party AV programs over and above Windows Defender that comes with Windows?
  4. I would have loved to see some logs from the support tool to see what else is loaded on the computer and i there were any possible conflicts.
  5. Please do the following Uninstall and reinstall using the Malwarebytes Support Tool Please have lots of patience with the tool. The first phase is a cleanup and does require a Windows Restart. After the Restart, it may take 2 - 3 - 4 minutes till the Support tool screen shows up. Please be patient and have faith. Wait for it, whatever it takes. The 2nd phase is where it offers to do a new Install. Let me know if that clears up the issue or not.
  6. Most likely a black Friday type special. The "WM" in the model number denotes it was only available at Walmart. That is very true.
  7. I currently use these and never have had an issue. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07997QV4Z/?coliid=ASIN-B07997QV4Z-ATVPDKIKX0DER&colid=2C62N8Q8N0AKG&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
  8. You were supposed to post in the malware removal section.
  9. Always use an administrator account when providing logs or using the support tool.
  10. There can be underlying issues that a clean install will only temporarily fix. That is why logs were asked for in that topic. And we frown upon people posting in other users topics with me too posts.
  11. You already have an open topic. The last post asked for logs and were never posted. Please follow those instructions in that topic and post the logs requested in that topic.
  12. Sounds like you wife was looking for the least expensive option when getting the computer fixed. I do not blame her, but you get what you pay for. Depending on the size drive needed (what size used one did you get) A SSD is not that pricey. You could probly order one on Amazon and pay the $75 for them to install it and save some money. If they are willing to fix it under some warranty, I would supply them with a drive.
  13. Yes and no, In the free version you can disable start with Windows and it will not start until you run a scan.
  14. Laptop drives go thru a lot of stress because laptops are portable. It seems the shop was trying to save you money. I personally do not use used drives in my repair business. I will also will not use standard spinning drives in any computer. I only use SSD's.( Solid State Hard Drives) That was fair. Depends on the shop. If I was forced to use a used drive, I would probably give a 90 day warranty on it but I would have not worked on it like I said, NO used drives. You have been advised in you previous topic to have the shop install a SSD. What country or state are you located in?
  15. It is a important part of the program and is there for a reason. It is using 15 MB on my system as I type. It is required for the real time protection of Malwarebytes. Again are you planning to use the paid version after the trial is over???
  16. The trial is the same as the paid version. Are you planning to purchase a subscription?
  17. HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC The flashing lights are HARDWARE error codes. You have a hardware issue. First turn your computer off by pressing and holding down the start button. Next unplug the computer and then remove the battery. Press and hold down the start button for about 60 seconds. Release the button and plug in the computer. Press the start button and the display should return. If it does work it is a matter of time until it fails for good. No results usually indicates a bad mother board. In my opinion, a DV6 is not worth doing any motherboard replacements and it would be time to just replace the computer. The DV series were plagued by many issues during their run.
  18. First please use regular fonts, Thanks. Do a clean install. It will give you 4.1 Please do the following Uninstall and reinstall using the Malwarebytes Support Tool Please have lots of patience with the tool. If that does not work we will NEED the logs I asked for.
  19. Please just provide the logs so we can see what is going on. You can not stop or start the service due to the self protection of Malwarebytes. It keeps bad processes from killing the service and spreading.
  20. Your not supposed to be able to. Please Down load the current version of the support tool and follow the instructions. Please actually follow thru this time. We tried to assist in December and we were ignored. Click OK Please attach the ZIP file in your next reply.
  21. It is recommend rootkit be turned on only where there is an issue for removing something with the normal scan. Rootkit is slightly more dangerous as it has to disable some whitelisting to remediate some rootkits. Maybe once a week if really if want to use rootkit. But honestly we rarely see rootkit files anymore and the newer engine can remove most of them anyways even without rootkit on.
