I talked to the owner of the repair shop and he told me that a little over 10 years ago

when he began is business, he bought and paid for a Corporate license. While he

can offer his preferred customers installation, he has to be the one to provide

overall support for the product. We can get some templates off the internet but

we cannot call for major support issues, we must go to his repair shop.

And I have some oceanfront property in Arizona for sale as well.

Office 2007 is the most bootlegged version I have ever seen.

I was just making you aware of the issue nothing more.

Sounds fishy don't you agree? Another thing to consider, Office 2007 lost security updates over 2 years ago. Can you say "security risk".

    Sorry you are having issues.

Please try uninstalling and reinstalling Malwarebytes for Windows using the Malwarebytes Support tool.

Uninstall and reinstall using the Malwarebytes Support Tool
    https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2674

Please have lots of patience with the tool.  The first phase is a cleanup and does require a Windows Restart.
After the Restart, it may take 2 - 3 - 4 minutes till the Support tool screen shows up.   Please be patient and have faith.  Wait for it, whatever it takes.
The 2nd phase is where it offers to do a new Install.

Let me know if that clears up the issue or not.

    However,

this repair shop, for its standard rebuild package, installed Windows 10, MS Word and Excel 2007, and

other programs that I haven't yet delved into.

Well I suggest you never use this shop again. Any shop illegally installing Office 2007 should be avoided. Just being honest as an honest shop that follows license agreements.

I assisted in the past in getting a shop like this closed down several years ago. These shops are everywhere and make shops like mine who follow license agreements look like rip off's

Office is not and has never been free or authorized for anyone to install it like that.

"You;ve hit your device limit To activate Premium on this device deactivate Premium on another device."

Please start by creating an account at My.Malwarebytes.com if you haven't done so already, if possible using the same email address you used when you originally purchased your license.  You will find instructions on how to do so in this support article.  Once that is done you should be able to use the Deactivate all function to reset your license/devices so that you may activate your license on your device again.  You may refer to the information in this support article for more details.

If that does not resolve the issue then please contact Malwarebytes Support directly HERE and they will assist you in getting your license working again.

I hope this helps and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know.

It was shutting down as all lights went out and no lights inside desktop. Definitely not going hybrid as it would have started again if I operated the mouse or keyboard.

Not true. That is what fast start in Windows 10 is all about. Shut down and restart are by default completely different. With fast start on, Windows does not do a full shutdown when you choose shutdown from the start menu.

With fast start off you are now fully shutting down when you choose shutdown from the start menu. Now it fully closes any running process now and it did not before. That is the longer shutdown.

Since yesterday both protections were somehow turned off and won't turn back on. The buttons keep spinning.

I suggest turning off fast startup in Windows. Then restart.

I would also recommend creating exclusions between Malwarebytes and Avast to help prevent any possible conflicts or performance issues.  Please add the items listed in this support article to Avast's allow list(s)/trust list(s)/exclusion list(s) particularly for any of its real-time protection components and likewise add Avast's program folder(s) (likely located under C:\Program Files and/or C:\Program Files (x86)) to Malwarebytes' Allow List using the method described under the Allow a file or folder section of this support article and do the same for its primary data folder which is likely located under C:\ProgramData (you may need to show hidden files and folders to see it).

I've got loads of history in PST files and Windows search, certainly in W7,  would pull stuff out

Since you use 2010, It "might" just be another way to urge users move to the newer versions of  Office/Outlook for search to work. It would not surprise me if that is the case. Never needed to think about it.

Thanks for your advice @Porthos - I did have controlled folder access switched on the other day just to try it out but switched it back off as it gave me more grief than I thought it was worth, and it's still showing as off. Perhaps it was on when the last MB update occurred, but I don't think so. Do you think a reboot and  a clean reinstallation of MB via the Support Tool might be the best next step?

You could do that. I saw that in the past you had some VSS issues. I would also exclude your Casper backup in the MB allow list.
