Occasionally, I love to play video games--old and somewhat new. <br /><br />My interests vary for the most part, but usually, I can sit down with a computer for hours on end. I'm a slight enthusiast & do have some older hardware lying around my space. (Some are slightly broken, but they're still very useable.)<br /><br />I've gravitated to Mac lately (OSX) & Linux Mint Fluxbox in a dual boot. Another distro that was eye-catching to me was MoonOS. Of course, I'm still a big Haiku OS fan (with steins in the kitchen cabinet & T-shirts in my closet) and am very curious to see how it will develop.<br /><br />In general, I love learning how to do stuff & thinking/problem solving.
  1. Hello. I am just placing a note about something that occurred, during the install of MBAM 1.46. No complaints here. I am currently trialing Zemana AntiLogger (ZAL); I had never used it previously. AIS was enabled; no problems there. However, Zemana was turned on, & it blocked part of MBAM's install, which resulted in a "Can't access" dialogue box. Even after allowing the MBAM installer. The "Can't access" box was still there.... After many times of hitting Cancel, MBAM finally opened, since I launched the program after install. (Pressing OK did not work, so that's why I had to hit Cancel.) All I did was close MBAM immediately, turn off Zemana, reboot, try the install again & all is well. Everything updated just fine. I had completely uninstalled 1.45 first, though. I don't think I will have any more problems, but if I do, I will just report it here.
  2. Okay! It's good to know! Thanks a lot for your time!
  3. Hi there TeMerc! I can only hope that it is a bug that they will get around to fixing. It'll probably be fixed for VIPRE Premium. As for SPF, the question is when or if it'll be fixed. Now the reason I doubt that there will be any fixes for SPF is that it was last updated in November 2008, if I've got my dates right (checked at Softpedia because I didn't see it on Sunbelt's site). We are now 2010. It's going on close to a good 2 years, since there has been any major update. When I had it installed & I would check for updates, there always weren't any. With that track record in mind, why would any bug "fix" be released for SPF for something as 'minor' as this problem with MBAM updating? (Just uncheck so & so. To them, it will be solved; no fix will be needed.) The SPF I bought in 2008 for about $40 came with a 3 year license, but what good is it, if the program is not going to be updated to address the increasing threats on the Internet? Or if the bugs aren't going to be addressed? That's what my beef with it is. It looks as though it has been abandoned. Why offer a feature, if in the end I'm not going to be able to use it & use it in peace (seamlessly)? Why offer a product with that long of a license, if in the end, nothing is going to happen with the product or if it's not going to be supported like it should be (like how VIPRE Premium is)? & I'm supposed to renew my subscription with them? Huh? What? That's all I'm saying. I love Sunbelt, but it can't go so. & noknojon, thank you for help!
  4. Hi there noknojon! I am not saying that I want to go to those sites. What I'm saying is that one of them is already blocked & that the rest aren't--that when I paste them into the browser, the MBAM IP blocking module permits me to go there. The sites appear to be similar to the one that was already blocked. Thanks!!!
  5. Hello... I am writing to give more attention to something regarding Online Key Shop. onlinekey.net is blocked by IP Protection but onlinekey.org is not. Before I updated my MBAM definitions a few days ago, I was able to go to that site. If you've ever seen what it looks like, you will notice that the pages for onlinekey.net is quite similar to onlinekey.org. This is going out on a limb, but I'd venture to say that it is really no different from the already blocked site. Please if it is not already in the works, please include definitions to block its variants. A quick Scroogle search for online key shop in quotes brings up some of the variants, all of which I was able to go to: onlinekey.org (already mentioned) onlinekeydownload.com www.usdealnet.com.cn/ (possibly? I wasn't able to see the page; there was an error, but it was not in English.) hxxp://mybuy365.net/index.aspx?type=2 hxxp://www.slickdeal.biz/index.aspx (Not Found error on my end, but might be related) hxxp://softwareskeys.com/ (I am not sure about this one.) I've not seen any malware that I could detect, just by simply going to the sites, however, they appear fraudulent. Please look into it. Thanks!
  6. I just wanted to say thank you for your response. I have been working on my system for a while, trying to figure out some things. First off, I want to say that that is not an acceptable fix from Sunbelt. What's interesting about this whole thing is that I actually contacted Sunbelt, & I never got a response. I've neither seen nor heard of any type of proper fix for the issue. From since that time, I have switched to Avast Internet Security, which allows me to update in peace, without adjusting the features of the firewall EVERY TIME I want to update MBAM. I actually found SPF's web filtering feature to be quite useful & powerful, & I have rarely ever surfed the net without it. The best I can do at this point is to salvage my loss, if that is at all possible; it has been most disappointing from VIPRE & now to SPF. The thing is: It's not just me switching; other people are doing so as well, just from a quick glance of the company's forum. There's no way I could stick with a product like that & I definitely can't recommend it to anyone. What would I do without MBAM & it's absolutely indispensable IP Protection? It really doesn't get any better than that. I am so happy that I can run MBAM & AIS side by side without problems (at least for now). I will hope that this new setup I have decided on will continue to work for me. Just sharing the outcome of all of this. Thank you.
  7. I really wished that adding mbamupdates.com to SPF would have solved the problem, but it hasn't. SPF & VIPRE Premium are 2 different things.
  8. I'm glad it works for VIPRE Premium, but it does not work for SPF..... Well.... I am going to ask it & hope it doesn't get lost here.... What exactly are the firewall exclusions I should be adding to see whether MBAM's update sites will be allowed? So far, I've tried adding to Web---> Site exceptions: data-cdn.mbamupdates.com 208.111.128.7 208.111.128.6 cdn-208-111-128-7.lga.llnw.net (Those are L's.) cdn-208-111-128-6.lga.llnw.net mbamupdates.com *.mbamupdates.com .*mbamupdates.com Am I missing anything?
  9. Hello... I was wondering: What firewalls & antivirus programs do not conflict with MBAM? What works well with few problems with MBAM? (I was looking around the forum & didn't see much of anything. I want to be sure that whatever it is I buy will not give me a problem when I go to use MBAM. I wasn't sure where to post this question, but I hope I put it in the right place.) Thanks for any help!
  10. Hello Chris & AdvancedSetup.... Unticking the Enable web filtering worked for me. There is no "When a website directs me to another website..." option in the SPF I use. I just wanted to let you know that the Sunbelt Personal Firewall I use does not look like the above screenshot. I bought SPF in 2008 when 3 yr licenses were being offered. This is WAY before it was integrated into VIPRE. Shoot, VIPRE didn't even exist yet for purchase! Any way, as far as I know, what I'm using is the latest version of SPF, apart from upgrading to VIPRE Premium, which I don't wish to do at this point. I remember when VIPRE definition files were like 99/100 MB, especially if you did offline updating.... (The file is about half that now.... ) I posted a screenshot of what mine looks like below (for convenience) & also over in: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=45246 Also, can there be some sort of organized version of what's been working for people? A sticky/pinned item of some sort? Just a thought.... Keep up the great work everyone! The response time has been absolutely superb! ~thumbs up~
  11. Okay.... AdvancedSetup, thank you! I ate something, drank some of my favorite juice & came back to the computer. I thought about what you said & I understand it now. IN SPF, there is a side tab called Web. Under that on the Ad-blocking tab, you uncheck Enable web filtering & that does the trick. (I thought that was an option under MBAM.... Oops!) I don't know if VIPRE Premium's firewall screen looks the same..... Now that a workaround has been identified: Will this be the only way that MBAM 1.45 (&/or future releases) will update smoothly? (In SPF, I happen to use the web filtering feature. It will be a pain to have to disable part of the firewall each time to update. I don't have to do that with any of my other programs. I hope this will all be sorted out soon!)
  12. Hello AdvancedSetup! Yes I did try that. Before when I was trying to add MBAM to the SPF exceptions in the HIPS sections under either buffer overflow or code injection, it would not add. I wasn't running the program at startup & I didn't have any of the real time blocking protection enabled. I tried updating with it on & with it off, but the results were still the same. I am just wondering & this is probably a long shot: Could it be that the whole updating process is dependent on some sort of service? (I am running XP & a lot of my services under Computer Management are set to Manual; a few are disabled.) ??? The only other things I'm running in real time besides SPF are Microsoft Security Essentials & AppGuard. I tried updating with both temporarily disabled & still get the same error. The only thing that worked was axing SPF temporarily. Thanks for any help!
  13. Wow TeMerc.... You are lucky.... The mbam exe files would not stay added for me with SPF.... I didn't get even get a tool balloon message about anything. I would add MBAM.... It looks like it adds perfectly, but then.... when I click all the okay buttons & re-enter the menu or even re-enter the program, nothing is in the exceptions list at all. Are you testing with VIPRE Premium (which I heard includes an updated SPF) or SPF paid/free? ??? I know that SPF is somehow blocking MBAM by looking at the sbhips.log file.... but I can't make sense of the error message(s), to be honest.... (Every time I tried to update MBAM, there was some sort of code type message.... (I've uploaded a screenshot of the SPF version I'm using.) Below is some of the mumbo jumbo that comes up when I try to update MBAM 1.45. It's taken directly from the sbhips.log. How I determined that stuff below as being from MBAM is that I opened the log file, looked at the last time that was there, made sure nothing was happening on the computer, closed it, looked at the time & then tried to update MBAM. 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x78193738, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x78193DB8, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x7816AEE8, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x781C45E8, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x78166613, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x781C4703, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D95D6E0, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D95DB59, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D95F3F4, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D9A7057, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D94DEFE, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:36 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D94F8B2, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x78193738, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x78193DB8, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x7816AEE8, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x781C45E8, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x78166613, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x781C4703, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D95D6E0, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D95DB59, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D95F3F4, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D9A7057, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D94DEFE, Invalid data pointer as arguments 31.3.2010 18:07:43 HookPatchMemory: Address: 0x3D94F8B2, Invalid data pointer as arguments
