  1. Greetings. I connected an old IDE hard drive via my trusty USB to IDE/SATA cable and MSSE immediately notified that Alureon.A was found at \device\harddisk1\dr8 and \device\harddisk1\dr8\(MBR). So I let MSSE clean what it had found, it prompted me to reboot. Then Malwarebytes free version would not update got the 12007 winhttpsendrequest error. In fact I apparently had no internet connectivity via dns names. I did the tried and true netsh interface ip reset and cleared that problem, but I sure would like to (1) understand what just happened and (2) is there some sort of reasonable write blocker technology that would keep stuff from jumping onto the pc from external drives to be scanned? Also - I keep recent ghost backups, so I can reimage fairly easily. But is there an easier way to recover from exposure to rootkits such as this? Thanks much in advance. - Mike W.
  2. Hold on there tex, you assume wrong. I am fully aware of your licensing and I conduct my business with strict adherence to ethical and legal boundaries. I was referring to family and friends for which I am not compensated a nickel. My perception is the mindset at MB has changed - profit first, customer second. Whose boneheaded idea was it to break existing functionality and leave some cryptic error on the screen? For Christ's sake you could at least have /runupdate execute /update leaving the customer a friendly dialog. Geez... I guess malwarebytes.com is more in order... Ok I feel better now
  3. Thanks for the confirmation. I could have just read sbwhiteman's thread my apologies. I'll have to admit I'm a bit irritated that the functionality was removed from the free version after sending a few machines out the door with this in the scheduler. Easily remedied with taskkill /im mbam.exe /f /t following the /update and prior to the /fullscanterminate however.
  4. Today this produces the following error... MBAM_ERROR_NOT_REGISTERED (0,0) Has this functionality been removed??? I fear I already know the answer....
