my wife keeps getting av.ex, or some varian that pops up the fake screen in IE that looks like the XP security center, we have all seen it. I keep loosing the battle. We run Mcafee total protection, it has no effect. After my wife's machine is infected malwarebytes is able to remove it, well I think. It always seems to come back. So, I blew the box out and reinstalled windows from scratch. XP sp3, all of the critical updates as of March 9, 2010. I then installed Mcafee total protection version unknown, you cannot tell what version you are running from their gui. Anyway within 24 hours my wife went to some damn teacher lesson plan or recipe site and boom there it was. I taught her to stop everything, go to task manager and kill all iexplore processes and it prevents it from installing, but doing that 5 times a day gets old. since malwarebytes has been able to remove it, well it appears to remove it, I decided to buy it. After installing the latest version, updating it and registering it I was ready to battle this virus!!! I had malwarebytes and mcafee in the systray!!! Had my wife go to a know infected site and her entire box locked up. had to hold the power button. Did that 3 times, no help, then, unfortunately I had to go to safe mode and remove malwarebytes. Is there no way to combat this thing? Malwarebytes does prevent it from loadiing, by crashing the os. Thanks
