So, My Dell Inspiron 1545 needs a new battery. I know nothing about purchasing a battery. What should I look for? What voltage should I get? Any suggestions or general info would be most welcome!

Welcome to the forums!

The only files it puts onto your drive is what you put in it....unless you're sharing a folder with someone, but in that case it's reasonable to assume you trust them enough to share a folder I checked around on their website and I haven't seen any reports of security issues.

Ahhh you are absolutly right! For whatever reason I misread and thought this pertained to the states. I blame the narcotics I'm on (or just my carelessness)

Stories like this make me glad I'm not American just kidding! @garybear You're absolutely right. It will only get worse now that oil wells and aquafiers repositories are drying up....

happy birthday

Hmmmmm, this might be unlikely going by the info you provided, but have you checked out your drivers?
-
I don't think it will raise any issues.

So, Several months ago I was run over by a minivan with a driver on his cell phone. It was an accident that was pointless and is just another example never to drive while using your cell phone. I sustained a tibia plateau injury. For any of you other health care workers out there, you know that knee injuries can be a serious pain in the rear end to recuperate from. Well, I am now walking and even though I may not be 100% yet, I am certainly getting leg strength back. Thanks MalwareBytes and the awesome community here. While I was holed up in the hospital or at home bored I would often visit these forums and read the amusing, edifying, and just plain quirky threads here. Even though I don't normally post things here myself, I do enjoy reading up on technology and learning new things about my computer and such. You guys have become almost like a "virtual" family here....or, at the least, a cool group of virtual friends. Seriously, I cant tell you how many times I was bored and coming here would help kill an hour.

Wish I could get rid of java, unforyunatly my University requires it to use their email and other e-srvices :S

Nope, most of the drive is free space (about 70 %)

Cool, thanks Ron, Yep I have everything backed up that I want, and have my rescue CD and installation discs at hand when I do this. I'm still reading up on it first and making sure I have every forseeable hurtle planned out for.... Still, this is nerve wrecking but I'm only paying for my lack of foresight a few months ago.

Ahh, ok so I'll just use the built in tool with W7 than. Cool! Well, since I have you guys attention, I have another question: I need to resize a couple of partitions on my computer. I want to shrink my Windows 7 partition and extend a partition I use for Ubuntu Linux. Any ideas for a good tool to use besides the built in W7 one? GParted seems to be a good one and I may use that when I have to clean install a new version of Ubuntu (which probably won't be for a long while though) And what are some possible issues I may run into? I've done some reading on it already, but opinions are always welcome

Yeah, I am really unhappy with Defraggler so I'm looking into some other free disk tools. MyDefrag seems to do a pretty good job though it's not as user friendly as Defraggler
-
So, I've been using Defraggler for a while now and lately it seems to be leaving fragments behind.... Just today, my disk was 30% fragmented, I ran defraggler and it is now 20% defragged. This has been going on for a while now. Umm, i need to resize my partition soon and I'll like to get this issue sorted out. Thanks bros and sisters EDIT: So, I used MyDefrag and than analyzed using Defraggler and it seems to have picked off all those fragments Defraggler left behind. Woot!

I would stay away from there unless you know how to research malware.

Eh, I'm healing. Hope to be able to walk in another few months. Thanks, Buttons!

Enjoy the new year and may 2011 be good to you all

Thanks for posting this, it made me a tad emotional as I recently got ran over by an inattentive driver on his cell phone and sustained a broken leg and knee. All of my pain and suffering could have been alleviated if the driver only watched what he was doing....

I noticed Win 3.1 had multiple versions, including the NT. Whats the difference between these versions. As a young pup I want to know.
