  1. Thank you so very much for your diligent effort to save my C drive. Alas, some can be difficult. As I am in transition with two properties for sale and renovating my new abode, I will save this for the appropriate time to save to a medium and then set about formatting the drive. Thanks again to you AND Malwarebytes!
  2. Hello and thank you, I do appreciate your suggestion and have thought the same thing. Do you feel that you have exhausted your repair options? Reformatting, to me, is always the last resort. I can do that if you feel it is the right choice at this time. It is always the program loading that is so time consuming and laborious. Data storage is no problem most is currently stored off drive C. I would have to do that with the C: drive as an external to another computer at this point as I can no longer even access Safe Mode to see what is salvageable. Is it possible to transfer the "Trojan/virus" to the fresh computer within a program, application, or data? That would just ruin my day! Thanks again I appreciate your help!
  3. Hello,Thanks for the help so far. I downloaded the FRST tool as requested. Problem with the USB boot. I was unable to bring up an advanced menu with "Repair Your Computer" in it. Here is what happened; while BIOS is running I tapped F8 and it goes to a screen that says (Please select boot device) it lists hard drive, DVD drive, Floppy drive, and USB. when the USB is selected it does not recognize it and the computer reboots. If I wait until BIOS completes and hit F8 it goes to the Safe Mode screen which does not offer any repair functions. I tried to enter the Recovery Console but as we went through above the same language that appeared before is back (NTLDR is compressed press CTL + ALT + DEL to restart)so I tried what you had said before in step 45 with no indication of any program running when I hit exit it rebooted with no change. I could find no access to the scenario you described, this is an XP machine if that matters. I believe I did as the directions indicated just could not get to the screen suggested. Is there another way in? Thanks again for your valiant effort.
  4. Hello and thanks for the referral. This is how it went with Kaspersky Rescue Disc; the virus detector ran for hours and came up with one Trojan. I will attempt to recreate precisely what it said with two instances of the exact same issue as follows; Object: n/Java/Deployment/cache/6.0/21/d50c015-218ca6a811main.class Trojan Program: Trojan-Downloader.Java.small.f There were three choices as to the disposal of this Trojan; the recommended one was to do nothing with it. I did nothing and rebooted to the same BSOD, or dispose of it, or archive it. I hope this helps! THANKS!
  5. Hello, I am sending this from another computer as the one we were working with has not responded well to treatment. I went to the Windows site and followed the directions to remove IE8, which was installed, with the recovery console from disc and that seemed to go well. The removal produced a stream of operations of which I got a few; missing files, then deleting files. I moved on to the next step which asked to do a repair from the disc which I did and it seemed to go well. First by deleting several files then installing new ones. It then said to start IE6 and be sure it works. This never happened as I got BSOD when restarting. Here is the BSOD information; DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Technical Information; ***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xF9E69000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF9E5DF94) *** BOOTVID.dll - Address F9E5DF94 base at F9E5D000, Datestamp 3b7d8345 What to do now ? I cannot access Safe Mode it loads all the drivers as normally then a window comes up that says "Windows XP Setup cannot run under Safemode. Setup will restart now." I have tried to restart without the disc and I get the same BSOD. If I restart with the disc I get the same setup screen as I have been through yet it does not correct the problem, after two setup runs, although it says "setup completed successfully." I missed a step somewhere but I don't see it??? Any other information I can offer from this attempt? Please let me know
  6. Hello, no messages. Boot up same as before, bios runs, Windows tries to start fails, then bios runs again, then screen with Safe Mode is offered. I ran CHKDSK as you requested, it went well, it listed time and date and a serial number d869-333b8. At the end it said "CHKDSK found one or more errors". Upon reboot same as it has been. It went to the Safe Mode screen with no normal Windows boot-up. I am ready for the next attempt. Thanks
  7. Hello and thank you for your help. I ran fixboot in Recovery Console as requested fixboot did run and wrote a new boot sector as was confirmed by the last line stating that boot sector was written successfully. Windows will still not start normally. Sorry this must be taxing but I'm sure you have an answer somewhere!
  8. Hello, I am not seeing the NTLDR is compressed. After typing "cd \" and entering it, the next line went to C:\ at which I entered "attrib -c C:\ntldr" and entered it, a few spaces down it said something to the effect of NTLDR is not compressed and that it was successful. Not exactly what it said but similar. That was all, then I exited and rebooted as directed. The unit still boots, goes through the option of Recovery Console or Windows then reboots and offers Recovery Console or Windows, times out and goes to Safe Mode Options.
  9. Hello, I followed your instructions to the letter, yet no results. I then went back in and did your three lines again. No positive result. I still would like to continue. Thanks!
  10. Hello, and thanks for your help with this. I did as you requested. and the fixboot did install as indicated by the last line that confirmed same. Upon reboot, computer failed to start and said "NTLDR" is compressed enter CTL,ALT,DEL to restart. Did this several times to attempt to get to anything I could work with. After some fumbling, I did get to SAFEBOOT. What next, I had great expectations on this one!
  11. I have tried your suggestion to no avail. The system fails to boot normally, then restarts and offers the Safe Mode option as has been the case. Thanks, I would like to continue if you have some other options.
  12. It appears as though chkdsk/f ran after following these last instructions, it took a much longer time to boot. Problem is it is still does not start in Normal Mode, only allows me access to Safe Mode. Tried two times to start but it went to Safe Mode each time. It would seem there is still something amiss. I appreciate your working this problem with me.
  13. I am sorry to report that after following your instruction the chkdsk2.txt will not run. What to try next? Thanks for your continued efforts!
  14. Hi, I'm sorry to report that the chkdsk2.txt would not run. I have tried it several times. As the screen print shows, it claimed that it was "in use". So I sent the first, read only chkdsk.txt, to the recycle bin and tried again. The next window I saw after allowing the chkdsk2 to run all night and ticking the X to close the C Prompt screen was that it had not finished running. Yet the result of all that time still yielded zilch. I then tried as the window illustrated to enter a (y) and restart the machine, did that twice, with the same result. Please see the screen prints maybe you can see something that can help. chkdsk.bmpchkdsk2.bmp

  16. Hello again and thank you for the suggestion. I did remove my security software as asked and some other old unused software with Revo. I rebooted and have the same result of only having Safe Mode available to me. I then disconnected all external devices as you said, I again had no luck with booting to a normal screen. I am getting disheartened by this long journey. Any more things you can think of to alleviate my problem will be appreciated! I have two PCI cards installed for many years; a TV card and a FAX card which have never before caused a problem, just for information purposes.
  17. I have done what you asked me to do with poor result. The machine still only starts in Safe Mode. Any more tricks? I await your reply, thanks! Bill
  18. Sorry, I tried to put the print screen in but it didn't take. Look again please. Also, I was looking in the MSCONFIG Startup and found an odd entry. Maybe you know what it is. I followed the path in Windows Explorer and it was not where it said it was. Sounded odd to me. Please see attached ;
  19. Hello again, I do not have a PCI graphics card, the graphics are integral of the motherboard. Please see attached for particulars
  20. The Stardock program was successfully removed by Revo, but the computer will still only boot in Safe Mode. Thanks, next?
  21. I tried to remove the program using the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel, it was not permitted. I tried a couple others to see if it was random or selective, it appears that no program can be removed. Please see the attached Print Screen for the language of the window which came upCannot Remove.bmp
  22. Hi, no luck. Same scenario, when I do as you requested, I get the same result. The computer restarts will not start normally, then restarts and offers Safe Mode. Thanks, what next??
  23. Please disregard the above reply it is an ERROR. I am working from three different computers as this main unit is faulty. You can see from the time sent it was very late and I mistakenly ran the wrong .INI file. Here is the correct information; [boot loader] timeout=3 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons UnsupportedDebug="do not select this" /debug multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
