  4. This is happening every 2-3min every day in the wee hours of the morning (2-5am'ish). Windows Reliability History report shows it's been happening daily for at least the past month. No system ill effects observed - thus, no idea when this problem began occurring. 6. Throwing my hat into the pile of "MB almost killed my pc" with ram and cpu usage. Please fix this asap.
  7. Thank you David for the prompt reply. Very enlightening information. I'm just another paranoid average "joe-user" freaked-out by the constant daily barrage of cyber attack news. I've been a MBAM user for several years - and so far I've experienced no attacks on my PC - so I guess I'm a satisfied MBAM user. But I'm also pretty darn diligent!
  8. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/new-radamant-ransomware-kit-adds-rdm-extension-to-encrypted-files/ Is MBAM/MBAE protecting my PC from this evil ransomware?
  9. Whatever. But thanks for your reply nonetheless. Now that I know MBAM is functioning "as designed", I will cease using it to scan files due to it's extremely long run time. FWIW, I use Avira AV and it will scan mbam-check-2.1.1.1001.exe (1.6mb) in less than 2 seconds while the MBAM scan runs over 5 minutes! How can that be? I'll leave MBAM installed on my PC on the assumption that it must be doing something good and the fact that I paid for it. But given how long MBAM requires to scan a single file - I do wonder if it's a resource hog on my system
  10. Agreed - VirusTotal is a service I've used and trust. However, I only use it for analyzing URLs since I connect to the 'net solely via a cellular mobile network and downloading/uploading files can be cost prohibitive.
  11. So, if I understand correctly, when I scan an individual file I'm actually running a "system" scan (all processes and memory) prior to the actual file scan? If true, is this process documented and explained somewhere? What I'm really trying to do is scan a file immediately after downloading to ensure it's "clean". Is there a better way to accomplish this?
  12. Running MBAM Threat Scan from the Windows Explorer context menu to scan a single file is always extremely slow on my PC. For example, a 151kb text file scan takes 4min 45sec. The actual file scan takes only 2 seconds while the Pre-Scan Operations runs for 4min 43sec. This problem has persisted for at least several months and apparently began after I installed MBAM version 2. I am running Win7 x64 with MBAM Home Premium v2.1.8.1057. Is this a known problem? Is there a fix? Thx, Rob
  13. Just a correction to my earlier post stating that MBAM v1.51.1.1800 did not solve my problem - that was true before I re-booted my system - after re-booting it now works fine! Thanks for your assistance.
  14. I should also add that my VPN (SecurityKISS Tunnel) uses OpenVPN and the UDP protocol. Does that raise any red flags with MBAM?
  15. I should add that I'm unable to search this forum for 'VPN' since it's less than 4 characters (huh???). Therefore, I have no idea if there are any meaningful posts relating to my problem! If anyone knows of any discussion relating to using MBAM Pro while connected to a VPN I'd love to have a link!
  16. Thanks for the reply. That solution does not work. I get the same error message. I'm assuming it's because the VPN is not actually a proxy (unsure if that's actually true). So, I'm still unable to update the MBAM DB while connected via VPN.
  17. Thanks for the reply. I have installed the latest version as you directed. It is now working unless I connect via a VPN proxy - in which case I am getting the same error. Please advise. Thx, Rob
  18. Getting error when attempting update. Running v1.51.0.1200. Please PM fix. Thx, Rob
  19. Yes! That solution worked (sort of). It was set to hide icons and notifications. However, when I go to http://iptest.malwarebytes.org/ I do not always get the notification and when I refresh that page the notification never appears. If I click refresh several times eventually it will display "If you are able to reach this page it means that IP protection is disabled on your machine." ??? Why does that happen?(Note: I have not applied the fix described in the first reply in this thread.)
  20. I'm running MBAM v1.51.0.1200 on Win7 Home Premium. I've never seen any MBAM Tooltip Balloon displayed even though many 'IP-BLOCK' entries appear in the log. I've read and followed the instruction in this thread: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=84571&st=0&p=432109&hl=balloon&fromsearch=1entry432109 The output of TooltipCheck.bat follows: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced EnableBalloonTips REG_DWORD 0x1 And, yes, the 'Show tooltip balloon when malicious website is blocked' is ticked. Any other ideas or suggestions to enable the Tooltip Balloon? Thx, Rob
  21. Huh? I stated I'm having the exact same problem - why would I need to start a new thread?I suggest that the "Common Issues, Questions, and their Solutions" topic (from 2009) be reviewed and corrected/updated. I will delete the prior fix from 2009 and apply this fix. Thank you for your kind assistance.
  22. I'm having the same problem. I'm running MBAM v1.50.1.1100 on Win7 Home Premium.Questions: 1) Does this fix also apply to Win7 users? 2) Does the fix you gave in this thread supersede the fix given here on 25 November 2009? 3) If yes, do I need to delete the 25 November 2009 registry update I applied previously before applying the fix given here? If so, how? Thanks, Rob
