  1. Dear Chrono, I'll answer you, just one last post. Of course, you could post back if you wish. Simply, it seems you look at the other side of the medal (seemingly of a good product) whereas Malwarebytes checks if anyhow a website (here, through a possible product download) could be associated to a piece of malware. Because it's not a comparison or performance test, just a detection test (there's a malware or not), equipment quality and software updates is not important here. So, from the flip side of the medal, it appears your position elongated this thread needlessly. When alerted by IP protection, MBAM end users can be more careful (investigate better). A good reason to use this security software. MSG Plus! Live would be more attractive to security aware individuals when dissociated from any malware. Best wishes of PC security, CyberJake4D
  2. Dear Malwarebytes staff, What a thread! Congratulations MysteryFCM. My choice of security software and combination take into account pros and cons from internal and external information (user experiences, tests, etc.). As an end user of MBAM Pro, detection of any malware is main focus. Apart from the technical side, the interest to read this exchange was about behavior; good from management (Nathalie) to show her company concern and technicality (Menthix) who better identified how the malware is incorporated to their product. On the other hand, someone waited until now in 2010 after being well caught to consider a change in their business plan! Therefore, they deserve to remain at least on an unofficial brown list. Okay, no official mention about it... As far as well informed user Chrono is concerned, who focuses wrongly on the chronometer for irrelevancy (trying to disrupt the case of a solid detection), his or her logic isn't an attraction for MSG Plus Live! Just an opinion, CyberJake4D
  3. Dear Daledoc1, MalwareBytes Forum Deities and personnel, Good news, MBAM Pro 1.46 and latest WISE 7 work fine (and very lightly) without any problem too on my system. A clean install of MBAM was done while WISE 7 active. No special configuration needed. There is no compatibility problem to load MBAM protection with Windows and run WISE automated or custom scanning (neither freeze nor high CPU usage by mabam.exe after WISE takes care of cookies). During a WISE scan, necessarily doing its work, mbamservice.exe consumes about 8 to 17% of CPU resource (one-core CPU). And, zero thereafter. As advertised by Webroot while scanning, CPU usage of WISE drops when another computer task is done; memory usage drops too when idle. The cause of this seemingly unique software conflict which occured is unknown. A possibility, could have been related to the Privacyware implementation of the firewall in WISE 6.1.0.45 (Private Firewall version 7.0.20.31); Webroot now uses Private Fifewall version 7.0.20.36 (not the latest) in WISE 7. Hopefully, because the firewall is often considered the first software line of defense, perhaps Webroot could be faster to implement into WISE or WISC the latest Privacyware firewall. Daledoc1, many thanks for your assistance. Sure, this WISE update was a big jump. Very happy that issue seems gone. MBAM Pro and WISE should be a very strong combination. Best wishes of PC security, CyberJake4D
  4. Hello Daledoc1, Thank you again to share your experience about WISE and MBAM. My version of WISE remains 6.1.0.45 (on a old one core Intel PIII system with 1.5 Gb RAM). The conflict with MBAM Pro started with version 1.44; similarly with 1.45 and 1.46 (WISE Sweeps can't go far into Memory items before jamming). The definition of compatibility used here is that MBAM Pro and WISE run fine without sustained high CPU usage and WISE can do a complete Sweep. This is not yet a thorough check of compatibility because mbam.exe may still exhibit sustained high CPU usage, occured once, when WISE placed cookies into quarantine. As mentionned in my last post of the earlier topic (reference above), an earlier version of MBAM Pro was installed as you suggested but did not change the problem. But, as for mbamgui.exe, I just set the firewall to Allowed Parent for mabam.exe and mbamservice.exe. Hopefully, that will help. Also, the protection module of MBAM is started manually. WISE is slow to load but afterward very fast at malware detection and system protection. It seems to me, the compatiblity was lost when MBAM was updated to version 1.44. CyberJake4D Note : WISE and WSSA (SpySweeper with Antivirus) worked well with other security solution in my case. Ex. : ZoneAlarm Pro with WISE (firewall set to Allow ALL Traffic) or Eset Antivirus with WSSA (Shield Antivirus Protection unticked).
  5. Hello Firefox, Thank you for your interest. As discussed with Noknojon in my earlier topic (reference above), the possible exceptions into WISE were added. Also, as user Daledoc1 explained, a Webroot representative said that the other exceptions not possible to add were not necessary for WISE to avoid a conflict with MBAM. In my case, I could avoid OS freeze by the strange ordered steps (v. 1.44 and 1.45) as a temporary solution. Now, WISE and MBAM Pro with active protection seem to work fine together when the memory objects scanner setting is unticked. Perhaps a solution for others too. My main interest is the loss in MBAM Pro function when when memory objects are not actively scanned (WISE only has this charge; no more conflict). Is this a major reduction of MBAM Pro function? (Although, memory checks from MBAM Pro or WISE must be different.) Thanks for your help, CyberJake4D
  6. For users of a conflicting security program, As described by some Webroot users and also in my earlier post ( http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...&hl=Webroot ), WISE and MBAM Pro (active protection on) seem not fully compatible. In my case, a simple MBAM Quick Scan before the activation of the protection module allowed (some?) compatibility - such that I could do a Sweep (Webroot scan) on my system. Consequently, I used MBAM only as an on-demand scanner until this simple compatibility solution which is to untick the scanner setting for memory objects. Therefore, only Webroot Internet Security Essentials would be
  7. Hi Noknojon and Daledoc1, Noknojon, WISE Sweep doesn't find any file or item of MBAM suspicious. Therefore, there is nothing which can be set to Always Ignore. Madam Daledoc1, I'm happy you have no major issue (except the delay) of actively running the latest versions of MBAM and WISE on W 7 32. To be sure on W XP 32 SP3, a reinstall of MBAM as you did was done earlier today (uninstalling/cleaning/reinstalling) with WISE shutdown and loading disable. In the Firewall, there are three MBAM Executables set to Allow, only mbamgui.exe as Allowed Parent and MB as trusted publisher. Same strange result, can only Sweep with both actively running when a previous MBAM Scan was done with its protection mode inactive. Maybe the developers could have a clue. Thanks for your interest.
  8. Thanks Noknojon for your help, This is to confirm you that I use only WISE as active running firewall/antivirus/antispyware with antimalware MBAM Pro (now, actively running only if I QuickScan before). No other firewall or antivirus. This problem is new for me with version 1.44 of MBAM with WISE. Hopefully, a solution will be found.
  9. Hi Downtown Computer, I may have a similar problem as yours with a temporary solution. Basically, my main active running security program is Webroot Internet Security Essentials (WISE) and it can't Sweep (its name for scan) when MBAM Pro is actively running ( ref. : http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=39632 ). Noknojon is also checking this issue. Could you try this stepwise : i) Load MBAM Pro without active protection, ii) Do a MBAM QuickScan, iii) Then, push the button Start Protection. Does it prevent your freezing issue? (If you wish, you could post also your answer in my thread). Your issue could be like mine if your system freezes when Avast or Vipre is in action, maybe scanning, after the active protection of MBAM Pro is on. Thanks.
  10. Hi Nokojon, Thank you in advance for your interest in this problem. WISE integrates Privacyware's Privatefirewall and Sophos antivirus with their own Webroot antispyware (better known as SpySweeper) and cleanup utility. As packaged, the firewall can only deal (Allow, Filter or Block; Allowed parents or not) with exe files (no sys, dll, ref, ... files can be excluded) and the antivirus has no exclusions at all (but its combination with the antispyware has various strong settings called Shields). Therefore, I can't exclude dll, sys and ref files but the three mbam exe files are set to allow plus mbamgui.exe set as an allowed parent. I'm a licensed user of WISE. and have been a happy user of ZoneAlarm Pro firewall and Eset antivirus which were removed by their own uninstallers (Eset's Install folder and their files remain in the Program Files' folder; most active remainders should have been found by using on demand TuneUp Utilities 2007 RegistryCleaner or Large PCTuneUp). (ZoneAlarm/CheckPoint or Eset specialized removal utility tools were not used.) From my experience with WISE, MBAM doesn't seem to be blocked in its function because there is no such alert by Process Monitor. No
  11. In short, firstly a MBAM QuickScan followed by Start Protection solve the problem (unable to Sweep, can't inspect memory items). Could this short procedure solve some similar conflicts? Please post your result. Here, always same result with Start Protection. Additional tests done, my security programs has been limited to MBAM Pro and WISE using various reduced settings. Could an expert explain a little how a simple scan before would prevent a conflict which involves the active protection?
  12. Dear Malwarebytes staff and user community, There were reports of a conflict between Malwarebytes and Webroot. Mine started only with the newest Pro version of Malwarebytes (MBAM Pro 1.44) with same latest version of Webroot Internet Security Essentials (WISE 6.1.0.145). Both softwares load and seem to coexist well on XP Home SP3 until a Sweep (Webroot scan) is manually initiated while MBAM Pro active protection is on (by Start Protection following a manual startup or with Start with Windows ticked). Similar frozen issues with some other security products do exist according to recent reports in this forum. Specific problem with WISE : Any Sweep using its GUI stops right away at the second memory item inspected and the system freezes except for the MBAM GUI (but can't collect information when a folder is chosen through its new window). The CPU usage drops to low normal. Furthermore, the suspicion is that WISE could have been already ineffective from the start of MBAM Pro active protection because of a memory conflict. And, a computer reset is necessary to restart the OS. MBAM executables were added to the firewall (mbam, mbamgui and mbamservice) but rules.ref, mbam.sys and mbamswissarmy.sys files can't be added as exlusions in WISE Application Handling. On the other hand, Malwarebytes Corporation was added as a trusted publisher; but, that didn't change anything. (Such settings are not available for users of Webroot SpySweeper with or without an antivirus). Consequently, the security level of MBAM Pro 1.44 activated is unsure with WISE on my home system (PIII 733 Mhz, 1.5 GB RAM, ZoneAlarm ForceField) which is otherwise stable. Unless, after testing, this strange and cumbersome almost magical solution is applied stepwise which anhilates the conflict : Load MBAM Pro without active protection (whether manually or inactivated at OS startup), do a MBAM Pro QuickScan (or full scan likely too), only then push Start Protection of MBAM Pro. Thereafter, absolutely no problem to run WISE QuickSweep (or Full or Custom) on my computer. No idea how much that is specific or somewhat general. Are other Webroot users can run QuickSweep without issue when MBAM Pro active protection is ON? Is running an early QuickScan of MBAM Pro with active protection turned OFF is a temporary solution for Webroot and other security users having similar frozen issue?
