real time protection
wyrmrider replied to wyrmrider's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
Thanks I'll send in a check There are lots of products that claim to have a real time benefit (Super whatever-) most of them actually I have a certain amount of mistrust ever since one well known product stole Spybots database then managed to screw up the usage They are still on my blocklist Mbam found a pup but there was no way I could identify what was found eventhough I sent in the id to the forum would be nice to id b 4 nukeing cheers -
since before MBAM existed I have been using SBS&D real time protection Thinking about switching, what are the technical differences? Is there a write up somewhere? I have Avast AV MS firewall but have used others like Comodo also something is blocking updates to host file, any ideas?

thanks for the link does the ID 5341 mean anything and if it does is there a list of IDs somewhere tks
-
That would be nice but need to expand I exported and opened and found PSScriptLoad.ACMB3 whatever that is, google returned nothing
-
I've seen several posts about IPbit's Advanced System Care being labeled as a PUP. Back in the Day several vendors of spyware removal tools stole Sbybot Search and Destroy's database and incorporated it into their product as their own. Do Leopards change their spots?

A PUP was removed, how to tell what PUP it was ID was 5341

Now look around and find J in MT's recommendations and get to work on them I also recommend secunia security inspector and get all your apps up to date especially important to remove ALL old JAVA -
Win patrol is NOT real time it is an after the fact scanner I use both on my W98 machine- no problems those using the 30 day free trial need to run the removal tool if not purchasingnot just using add/remove programs

yes it does matter where HJT is installed if installed to temp there is no way reversal/ backup info can be saved if to desktop it can quickly overwhelm your desktop therefore install to a file if you download directly from trend micro website it will create a folder for you (recommended) generally HJT logs are looked at only in the malware removal forum see "computer help" forum section below I'd suggest separate topics for both you and your pal please read the instruction stickie and be prepared to follow instructions exactly DO NOT REPLY TO YOUR OR YOUR PAL's first POST Patience (of course MB staff can do whatever they want- I'm just commenting on a possible reason your hjt has been overlooked- no one usually looks for them in the general forum)

Help! Trojan.Agent & Rogue.Installer
wyrmrider replied to kevbuck's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
looks as if MBAM has it safely tucked away I googled the CLSID and found http://www.castlecops.com/tk30509-no_file.html which says "X" - Certified spyware/foistware, or other malware MBAM is usually pretty good about removing infections , however I would go to the Malware Removal forum READ THE STICKIES be prepared to follow instructions EXACTLY There an expert helper will try and determine if all the infection is gone you can post your log there or a link to this thread good work! -
McAfee Prevents Installation of MBAM-dor.exe
wyrmrider replied to JeffBeck's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
XP or Vista? Is this being blocked by the McAfee FIREWALL ? or do you also have McAfee Antivirus? did the McAfee come pr-einstalled? have there ever been any other AV's installed on your system? (not counting any "on line" scans)? I would think you could download the MBAM installer, disconnect from the internet, turn off the firewall and try install however you will have to back on line to update If this is McAfee AV or firewall will it object at that point? you are correct- you should not have to do all this I jut love McAfee have you tried a search on McAfee? -
Lots of good advice in this thread you DO neet Both MBAM and a good AV Avast-Antivir-Kaspersky and Jean in Montana's recommendations are based on years of experience however you need to COMPLETLY remove Kaspersky before installing Antivir - avast or any other AV kaspersky sometimes has to be removed in safe mode and the used to recommend Download KAV_Registry_Clean.zip from here however I do not know if this is current I would sugest going to the Kaspersky website and check You do NOT want to AV's or portions fo two AV's installed at the same time

MBAM can't remove trojan.extension.exploit
wyrmrider replied to levers's topic in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
This may also be a bug in the current version of MBAM so wait for a second opinion before posting in the Malware Removal forum not to get into malware removal here but did you notice that this was in a temp file? have you cleaned your system recently? (do not mess with system restore) then run a complete AV scan re-run mbam if not gone go down to the Computer Help area and post in the Malware Removal Forum read the instructions and be prepared to follow them exactly do you trust http www.scrapbookbytes.com have you run a link checker?
