  1. Noknojon, thanks for your reply, but can you please clarify what you said about the back up CD which Malwarebytes offers for $9.99? I had purchased Malwarebytes online for $24.99 and downloaded it into my computer. I also paid $9.99 extra at the time to pick up their "back up CD", because I thought it would come in handy in case of an emergency. Anyway, when I inserted this CD into my disc drive (just to test it the other day) nothing happened...nothing at all, so I took the disc out. Question - is this back up CD supposed to work in my disc drive when inserted or simply do nothing, I am not sure what you meant earlier? Regards, DOB
  2. Yardbird, yes, I did send GT500 a copy of my protection log (thru the customer service email), but from the log, he couldn't tell what the problem was. He suggested a solution for me, but it didn't work. Today, I remembered to go back to the forum, and that's where I saw your reply. I was also thinking the same thing at this point, that I might have to simply uninstall and reinstall Malwarebytes to solve my issue, but your instructions definitely helped me, as I would not have known what to do. As for my subscription, I also bought Malwarebytes online for $24.99 and downloaded it...I did not use a Malwarebytes CD to first install my real time protection module. I paid $24.99 for the download, plus, I paid an additional $9.99 for a "back up CD", that I thought would be, well, a back up CD, in case I ever experienced problems and had to reinstall my subscription, but now it seems this CD wasn't what I thought and I never would have bought it had I known it would be useless? Anyway, I have no issues with my Product ID or Product Key...when I reinstalled Malwarebytes, I clicked on "register" and typed in my ID and Key and everything was accepted normally, and my real time protection module started working again immediately. Thanks again.
  3. GT500, thanks for the help, but I followed Yardbird's instructions and successfully unistalled and reinstalled my Malwarebytes subscription, and now my real time protection module is staying on again, so hopefully I will be OK now. However, after I had unistalled Malwarebytes, I actually tried using my back up CD first, to see if it would install my subscription back for me, but nothing happened at all...the disc stopped cold in my disc drive and did nothing, so I had to download a new subscription. I also asked Yardbird this question, but if you can add anything about the purpose of the back up CD and how to use it, please let me know? As of now, I do not know if my back up CD is defective or not, it literally did nothing when placed in my disc drive... Thanks. DOB
  4. Yardbird, thanks a lot for the help! I followed your instructions and so far, everything seems OK for now. I will keep my fingers crossed that whatever corrupted my real time protection module from working before is now gone, when I unistalled and reinstalled Malwarebytes. Question - I am still not sure exactly how to program my "scheduler" though (even after clicking on the scheduler "help' link), for example, if I click on the "Update" tab, what boxes do I check on the left side? Also, it is completely necessary to schedule daily "quick scans", as my real time protection module seems to block all intruders from my computer whenever I get attacked, and I haven't even had to perform a scan in months, as there seems to be nothing to remove at the moment. Also, I had purchased a Malwarebytes "back up CD" when I purchased Malwarebytes real time protection module and actually tried to use the CD to reinstall my subscription (before I went to your link to download it), but when I placed the back up CD in my disc drive, nothing happened, I mean, nothing...the disc stopped spinning and I had to take it out. Nothing was on the my screen at all. Question, what is the purpose of this back up CD and could mine be defective? It came in handy though when I went to "re-register" after the download, because the Product ID and Product Key is printed on top of the CD, but as for the CD itself, it was completely useless and didn't do anything when I inserted it into my disc drive. If I do not understand how to use this back up CD, please let me know if I am doing anything wrong? Again, thanks for your solution and the instructions...it was really appreciated! DOB
  5. Hello, today is Saturday 10/30 and when I turned on my computer this morning, my Malwarebytes "real time" protection module did not stay on. It's supposed to "enable protection module" automatically when I turn on my computer and turn on Windows and it's been working great, except for today...something is wrong. Even when I went back to Malwarebytes and clicked "enable protection module", it still won't stay on, even after 3 more tries. When I turn on my computer, I get a pop up that says...MBAMService terminated unexpectedly: see Event Log for details, then it says click [OK] or I can [X] the top right corner....is this a real message or not? Then, when I go to Malwarebytes and try to enable my module (turn it on), I get two more pop ups, the first is...Connecting to malewarbytes.org [OK], but, when I click OK, I get a second pop up which says [OpenEvent] Quarantining:2...can someone please tell me if this is a real message or a fake one? My malwarebytes doesn't go on, nor is there anything being stored in my Quarantine either... In any case, my computer is vulnerable until I can get my Malwarbytes protection module to stay on...can someone offer help? A few days ago on 10/28, I clicked on "Updates" and downloaded the latest version of Malwarebytes...could this be what's causing the problem? My last "update" was back in March, so I thought it was time for another update. Anyway, my real time protection module is not staying on and keeps going off, even when I go back again and again to try and enable it. Thanks for helping.
  6. Hi YoKenny1 & Mountaintree16, Thanks again for the reply, I really do appreciate all the help. As of now though, I don't think I have a "DrWatson" issue that needs to be looked at and addressed (hopefully it was a one time thing), but if this error message happens again, I will direct this issue to one of the Malwarebytes helpers or experts. Fortunately, this "DrWatson" message seems to be a part of Windows XP (which I have), so I don't think it's a virus or malware at all. I think what may have caused it was that my computer just wasn't starting up quickly or smoothly this morning, and I might have made things worse by trying to hit some keys and force things along, when maybe I shouldn't have. As for posting on Malwarebytes forums, they are a little overwhelming to someone like me (who is new to all this)...there are literally so many different forums here, that sometimes, I am not sure which ones to post under (they can be a little confusing)? The next time though, if I feel that I have a serious computer issue that needs addressing, I will try and find the proper forum to post my message, in order to have a Malwarebytes helper or expert help me, as you both suggested. Regards, DOB
  7. Hi Mountaintree16, Thanks for the information, and there is no need to apologize whatsoever...whenever you have the time to send a reply is perfectly fine. I am not always at my computer either...sometimes I can only check my messages or forums in the morning and at night. Anyway, this morning when I hit the power button to start my HP laptop computer up (I usually turn it off every night and restart it in morning...I don't leave my computer on all night), I had some trouble starting up (my Yahoo Messenger wasn't signing in smoothly, etc) and after a few minutes of trying to get on Yahoo, I received this DrWatson PostMortem Debugger message, you know, it looks exactly like those Internet Explorer Microsoft Reports that say, "Send Error Report" or "Don't Send" below... Question - I tried finding out about this DrWatson thing on the web and I think it is a legit program from Windows actually, and is not a virus or Malware...could anyone please tell me if this true? At first, I didn't realize that it said DrWatson on top, I thought it said the usual Internet Explorer, so I hit the "Don't Send Report" at the bottom, then realized I might have fallen into a malware trap? Anyway, is this something I need to worry about? I've so far ran a scan of my D:\ Drive and I am in the middle of a Quick Scan now, but so far it's showing no infected objects/files. Thanks. DOB
  8. YoKenny1, Thanks very much for all the information! I will look over everything you sent me and make any changes I need to. DOB
  9. Hi Mountaintree16, Well, I am doing those daily automatic updates, is this what you mean? Actually, since purchaging Malwarebytes real time module a few days ago, I haven't done any scans, but should I? I usually only perform scans after an attack, in order to find the Trojan or malware and remove it immediately with the scanner, otherwise if I am not attacked, I assume all is well...no need to scan. Anyway, I recently tried updating Malwarebytes, but it said that I already had the latest January update? Are you referring to these type of updates or something else? This is something I still need to learn more about...can you please tell me specifically what a false positive is and how will I know when I see it? Otherwise, I agree with you, I was also only deleting the malware from my quarantine after about a week or so. I just didn't want to even see it anymore, so after a week or so, I would delete it for good.
  10. Hi Noknojon, I hope I did this correctly? Thanks for the information anyway!
  11. Mountaintree16, The reason why I think that you should visit the Malware Removal Forum is because you said you were finding malware about once a week or so in your scans. You MAY have malware on your system that is causing re-occurring infections... ...just to clarify, I am not findng malware about once a week or so on computer when I do scans. When I do scans, it shows all clear...no infected objects. I only meant that, as of a week ago, I was experiencing a Trojan attack about once a week, and THEN, I would use the Malwarebytes scanner to immediately find and remove it. Again, I haven't been attack in a while and just want to see if it finally stops. Obviously if it doesn't stop, I will contact the Malwarebytes help forum to try and get to the bottom of this. In the meantime, now that I purchased Malwarebytes Pro, I just want to see what it does and how it works. Question - I noticed that when the Malwarebytes scanner does find and remove malware (after an attack), it keeps it in quarantine and even has an option of restoring those files too??? Personally, I have been deleting these Trojan.fake malware from my quarantine, I mean, I am not comfortable leaving them in the quarantine at all, or else they could accidently be restored one day. Should I be leaving any malware that the scanner finds in the quarantine, or should each malware be deleted, once it has been found, removed and quarantined? As a side note, how do you post "quotes" when sending as reply...I noticed you are able to isolate sentences and post the quotes? Thanks.
  12. Mountaintree16, thanks again for all the information! However, I do not think that I am currently infected anymore, I believe my computer is clean now because the last few times I got attacked, I used the Malwarebytes scanner to find and remove them. As far as I know, none of my files are infected now. However, my question to you was simply this - if I continue to get attacked in the future or every few weeks, does this mean that somewhere in my computer there is still a hidden malware that is hiding out in one of my files and is evading the scans, or does it mean that this Malware is coming in from over the internet, and knows how to find my computer specifically? Now that I have Malwarebytes Pro, I am hoping that even if I get attacked again, it won't be able to do anything to my computer...so I am going to wait and see what happens. Hopefully, all will be quiet now though and I won't get attacked anymore, and I can certify my computer as all-clean, but only time will tell. Don't worry, I won't try to do the System Restore thing either yet. As I said above, I first want to see how Malwarbytes Pro will protect my computer in the event of an attack. However, if I do get attacked again, even if Malwarbytes Pro stops it, I will ask for help from a Malwarebytes helper/expert, so I can try and end these attacks forever, but I think it's too soon to ask for this help yet. I want to see if I can get thru the next few weeks without any incident.
  13. YoKenny1, I have Windows XP. I found this link from Microsoft, scroll down and look at Method 2, is this info correct? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405
  14. Mountaintree16, FYI - no, I haven't attempted doing this System Restore thing yet, so I will wait for you to get back to me with any additional specific information. By the way, were you suggesting that I probably do not have any Malware currently hiding in my System Restore...that all the Malwarebytes scanning I have done recently to remove the infected files, has done the trick, and removed everything that could be infected in my computer? However, you also suggested that if I restore my computer to an earlier time, that this earlier time could still be infected? Is this true? So, if I end up turning off my System Restore, then restarting my computer, then turning my System Restore back on again..what then...where do I reset the System Restore to make sure I'm OK once I turn it on again? Oh...here's another interesting question...could Malware hide on a data CD? I recently backed up my documents, photos, etc...on a backup CD (because I had seriously thought that I had to wipeout my computer, but I have since changed my mind)...so could Malware actually reload itself back into a computer, if you use that Data CD?
  15. Mountaintree16, thanks so much for the long reply, I appreciate it! Yes, I do have Norton Internet Security 2010, so I have always had antivirus protection of course. Many months ago I was attacked by a malware/spambot (whatever it's called?) that actually accessed my entire email contact list...and it sent out a bogus email to everyone on my email list...I was horrified! So, at that time, I decided to downloaded Malwarebytes free scanner to hunt for this malware - it found it and removed it, and I wasn't bothered again. However, about 5 weeks ago I was attacked by that "You Need Antivirus Pro 2010" (or whatever it says?) and ever since then, I've been attacked by a Trojan.fake virus about once a week. I finally decided to purchase the Malwarebytes real time protection though 2 days ago, in hopes this thing will finally leave me alone. Question...do these Trojans attack ones computer from the internet? I mean, even if I actually did a full system wipeout/restore...where I literally would wipeout my entire computer and start over again, could malware keep coming back, if it knows your computer code...could it keep attacking a specific computer from the internet? Or, would a complete system wipeout (where you need to reload Windows and the HP Drivers again afterwards) do the trick - eliminate the attacking malware for good? The reason I bought Malwarebytes real time protection in the first place though, is because I don't want to bother doing a complete system wipeout...it would be a real pain in the neck, it would take me many days to reload the computer from scratch again. I did it once many years ago, and I hope I never have to do it again. Yes, please let me know if turning off the System Restore, then restarting my computer, than turning the System Restore back on, would help in any way? In other words...it wouldn't hurt to do this anyway, would it? The only thing I need to know though is, would turning the System Restore off and on again, delete or change any of my current settings? For example, would it wipeout anything...like my homepage (which is currently Yahoo), or would it revert my computer to an earlier time, where everything would be different? Could it also delete anything that's on my computer currently, like my documents, pictures, windows media player, etc? If not, than I have no problem trying this System Restore thing...
