  1. This package installed on mine a few days ago. I had been having nagging problems recently with 2 guards disabling out of the blue, requiring a program shutdown and restart to get them back. It did this every other day, no trigger that I could identify.

    I haven't had a problem in a few days now, with v1.0.418

     Fingers crossed..

  2. Almost 10 days on 3.5 Beta, after uninstalling 3.4.5 because of multiple problems, I can say the Beta has given me my old computer back. No more system problems (they were getting severe...). I had even uninstalled my antivirus prior to going Beta, thinking it was somehow competing with 3.4.5 and causing problems. Even with the AV back on now alongside 3.5 Beta, all is running fast and stable. Hopefully whatever caused these problems, to me and to quite a few others it seems,  won't show up in future builds.

Keep up the good work team...

  3. Guess this topic is fine for what I have to say. I installed the 3.5 Beta last night, because of somewhat serious ongoing problems with v3.4.5 Premium on W7 x64. It started with a couple protections refusing to activate, then generalized system slowdowns with very long shutdowns, difficult user session log outs (explorer and taskhost hanging...) and finally a BSOD yesterday on reboot (though no damage).

Now with this Beta, my system is happy again.

Sounds very similar to the random issue I've been having for over a month.  Initially I thought it was a repeat of the February update fiasco.

System becomes almost totally non-responsive.  Once task manager comes up, mbamservice.exe is running at 25% cpu.  I kill the task, the system returns to normal and the task restarts itself.

This is just my personal suggestion : try the Beta (3.5). I've only had it installed for 12 hours, but my system is stable and fast. Funny how I now realize I have my computer back, having dealt with lagging and bizarre system behavior for weeks...

Ransomware and real time protection is currently disabled on my MB and can't be restarted.

PC still running very slowly. I'm increasingly thinking MB has sent through a dodgy version with last weeks upgrade - If I find out MB is causing this I'll be removing them from my PC as after Januaries memory leak fiasco I said one more problem with MB on my machine and I'll have no option but to cancel it and install a new programe.

Task Manager > Show all processes > end MBAMService.exe then quit MBAM. Restart from All Programs. Maybe you should try the Beta.

  6. @GavinP : it could be. On mine I noticed it especially when restarting or shutting down the computer, as it would take a lot longer, with Explorer and TaskHost not wanting to close.

So an update on my situation : things were going well (fast) last night after disabling Ransomware protection, until I attempted a reboot. I got the Chkdsk / disk integrity window (formerly known as BSOD), had to perform chkdsk which repaired or deleted a few files (I forget), then all was Ok. So next I installed the Beta... Computer has been On since, smooth adn fast so far, no chkdsk on reboot.

    I'll update later today.

Yep, I think so.  I've been running the beta myself since it first launched and it's been going well so far for me.  And yes, it will activate with your current license and will automatically upgrade to the release version (assuming there are any changes before it comes out of beta, otherwise if it isn't changed, you'll already have the latest with the beta and so won't need to update/upgrade).

If you do decide to try the beta, let us know how it goes and if it helps with the performance issues etc.

Thank you sir ! I'll monitor the situation and install the Beta if necessary. And I'll keep you posted if I do ;)

    Cheers,

  8. Ok, too early to tell, but with Ransomware protection Off, things are back to normal. For now anyway. Will update if there are changes.

One thing I should mention, just in case it could be a factor : I do have Macrium Reflect Home version 7 (paid), which has its own ransomware protection scheme built-in, though I have no idea how they go about it but it seems they protect their own backup files, not the system per se. I've had this version for many-many months now, never a problem. So I'm not *that worried* about having MBAM ransomware protection Off, because I'm covered by Reflect (I hope). I use their home version to be able to do incremental backups, which are great, and ransomware protection was just a bonus.

  9. I've been having similar problems lately. Premium version on Windows 7 x64 (relatively fast desktop computer). It all started after the last build auto update. First signs were terribly long Windows shutdowns (minutes, when usually 15 seconds), very long user account logouts and, eventually many-many FireFox crashes after stopping to respond.

Just after the MBAM update I also updated the free Panda AV I have (newer build) so I thought this was the problem. I uninstalled it, things seemed better, so I installed the free Kaspersky. Things started to deteriorate soon after. Uninstalled Kaspersky, things were a bit better (I think), then I uninstalled MBAM a few days ago (regular uninstall method), machine was as fast as new again. Re-installed, and things were good for a day, maybe. Today, back to system lagging, FireFox crashing and stopping MBAMService cures it.

Haven't tried disabling Ransomware, will do that now. No other AV installed except Windows Defender.

A little worried because this doesn't seem widespread, so probably not an easy t-shoot.

  10. I don't watch a lot of TV anymore myself... so these finds are often accidental clicks on YT or something, haha. Big Annie Lennox and Amy Lee fan here, so thanks for those shares.

Speaking of finds, I don't know if anyone here posted vids of this singer, but... maybe worth a repost. From The Voice in Poland (2015) :

    Nothing but chills... oh man...

  11. Thought Ron might enjoy this. It's time for our annual "La Voix" in Québec (The Voice), and we've got one incredible (to me) voice this year, a girl who's been singing for a while in the Ottawa area, but for some reason unknown to me hasn't broken out yet at age 32. I have a feeling this about to change... She chose to come to "La Voix" though she doesn't speak a lot of French, but the show is huge and could help her along... and she's in the finals next week. I absolutely fell off my chair when I heard her in the blinds, and every time she sang after that. She comes from Jazz, but can do it all...

     Enjoy...

  12. Maybe this has already been reported ; search didn't pick anything up for me.

Was doing a setup on a TP-Link router just now. To access the configuration utility, you can use the good ol' 192.168.0.1 or, as suggested in their quick start guide, use tplinklogin.net instead. MBAM blocked that, so I had to use the IP.

So... FP here would be tplinklogin.net (edit to add : unless someone decided to abuse that...)

    Thanks...

  13. Funny you mention that. I haven't tried, not yet anyway, but here's the thing : I noticed this activation thing and tried to re-activate via the Store, but nothing happened. So I tried to get the anniversary update and got an error message saying I needed an activated copy of Windows to install that update. A week or so later, for fun, I tried the anniversary update again and it installed just fine, but I had a message I needed an activated copy of Windows to use it now, heh. I had looked at getting the newest Insider build, but again the requirements say you need an activated copy of Windows 10 to install it. Plus the fact I don't really want the latest Insider build, I was quite happy with RTM and had no intent on continuing with the Insider program. I've decided to wait for a little while, hoping a cure falls from the sky (right), and then eventually I may try to install the latest Insider. But seeing my current VM is no longer activated, it cannot technically be upgraded in any way, shape or form.

  14. Funny thing (not..) happened to me a few weeks ago. I've had this W10 Pro virtual machine for a long while. It saw life as an Insider Preview back in the fall of 2014, got updated with newer builds until it became "RTM" in 2015. MS had given the green light (if I read that correctly at the time) for those in the Insider program to be able to install the final version, have it activated, no need to be an upgrade.

Fast forward to early August of this year : I get a popup saying Windows needs to be activated. Fantastic... So I call MS phone support and they tell me the Insider installs are different and have no product key per se so they can't help me and I need to go to the MS Answers forums for help. I go there and get absolutely no help, nobody seems to know what's going on. Great, my system is now functionally dead, basically, with no explanation and no way to fix it. Oh yeah, I do have the $249 offer to install a Genuine Windows 10 Pro. Great job, MS...

  15. Thanks for the reminder FireFox,

Just to recap quickly on the possible techniques to get the W10 licence yet keep the older system (for now at least) :

    - Install W10, then roll back via the built-in roll-back routine.

    - Install W10 on a separate HDD using a USB stick with W10 on it, then you'll have the two systems (old and W10) on two separate drives (it's in the article, if interested).

    - Make a full system image of older system (using True Image or Macrium Reflect for example), upgrade to W10 and then you have the option to re-image at any time.

I'm lucky to have another option on my main machine : it's running W7 (keeping it 'till end of life), but it's a dual boot with W10 on another drive. I don't use W10 actively, it's just there as a backup system, for now. It's there thanks to the $15 W8 Pro offer from a few years ago, which I have now upgraded to W10 for free of course. I not only have a backup system on a separate drive should my SSD fail (been there), I also have W10 ready should I ever get an urge to use it. Pretty sure W7 will be main until Jan. 2020 though ;)

  16. Just stumbled onto this :

An accolade (October 2015) from Petrucci, one of metal's all-time greatest guitar players, says a lot about Prince's presence in the business as a musician and highly skilled player.

    Warning : this is a metal guitarist/virtuoso version ;)

    R.I.P.
