  1. I received the same pop-up on Google Chrome today.   Clicked on the Malwarebytes pop-up, was taken to the following site:

    https://malwarebytes.com/digital-footprint-app?guard=1&utm_source=BGreco&utm_medium=breach_notifier

which resulted in a bare-bones Malwarebytes Beta screen offering to "Scan via email" when I logged in.

This looked suspicious, so I did not proceed.     Please confirm that the pop-up and resulting site are legit.

  2. On a basic scan of my external drive, MB Premium detected Generic.Malware/Suspicious in an old .zip file.   On the Detection History / History screen, the item is listed and the action column is "No Action by User", because the detection happened overnight.   I'd like to quarantine this file but that option is not available from the Detection History /  History screen.   Please advise.

  3. Following the collapse of the family business, while salvaging the hard drives from the company PC's, we have retrieved a key drive with the most important company files.   The majority of the files on the key drive were apparently encrypted by ransomware more than 10 years ago, but some later files have not been encrypted.   I'm not sure what if anything the former user did when the ransomware appeared.

When I connected the infected drive to my laptop via USB and ran MB Premium, I got 20 infected files with general malware and PUP's, of course I quarantined those.   The encrypted files are still visible in Explorer, however they each have a new file extension.

Is there a procedure using MB and other software to decrypt these files ?

Also I have MB scanned my laptop and no malware is detected.   I have also ESET-scanned the laptop, no problems detected.    Do I need to do anything else ?

  4. Premium subscriber here, considering extending this multi-device subscription to protect my dad's Windows 7 PC.

On the MB splash page, the MB Personal Security and Antivirus product is offered.   Dad's Microsoft Security Essentials free product is no longer updating virus definitions.   But since I have the Premium subscription, is the MB antivirus protection already provided ?   if so what would be gaining with the separate product, other than VPN ?

    Please advise.

  5. I have several legacy email accounts with servers now controlled by Earthlink.   I have essentially stopped using these accounts because Earthlink's spam controls are so lax -- for every 5 emails I receive, maybe 1 is legit.    Lately I have been receiving emails on the account [removed] indicating that my Malwarebytes account will be deactivated.   I have a MB Premium account on a different Earthlink-based email address, an account which is in good standing and was just renewed.   So I don't feel like my account or my PC is at risk, but it is curious that I have been receiving emails like this.

If I need to take further action, please advise.
