  1. Hello again all, I was just here yesterday about Windows Defender stopping working after Malwarebytes premium ran out ( ). After this was fixed, I wanted to run a Full virus scan with Defender just to be safe, but after a couple hours I wanted to go to bed so I canceled it and was going to do it in the morning. However, after cancelling, it said it had identified a threat, something I believe was called "Trojan:win32/spursint.F!cl" (I was panicking at this point so I'm pretty sure that's the one). I clicked for Defender to remove it, and I believe it did. Not that before this scan I had done a quick scan and it didn't detect it. I have since redownloaded Malwarebytes with the free 14-day premium, and ran multiple scans of that, as well as another few full scans with Defender and a Defender Offline scan. They're all coming back clear. However, I am still worried that my computer may be infected. I have no idea where this came from, I don't do anything potentially dangerous to my PC as far as I know and like I said I had Malwarebytes premium on for the last year scanning every day. Basically I'm panicking a lot that there's still something left that is a problem. I'm probably going to do a factory reset of my machine anyway but I don't want to do it if there's still a virus left hanging around. Hopefully someone can help because like I said I have been panicking quite a lot about this now.
  2. Just wanted to say thank you so much for working with me here to help fix this, you've been a real lifesaver. All the best, James
  3. Have downloaded PatchMyPC, and it says the only out of date things are things like Discord, which I will do shortly. I'm guessing this means that on the Windows Defender front, we are all good?
  4. Okay, now it is yellow and saying "Quick scan due", I assume because I haven't ran a scan using defender in ages because of using malwarebytes previously. I'll wait until you respond just to make sure there isn't anything I should do before scanning.
  5. I'm trying not to get too excited but it is now saying no action needed! Do you think there is anything else I need to do? Something I should test? Should I run a scan just to be sure it works?
  6. Okay, so I did the download fine I think (I've attached an image of what the file looks like just to be sure) However, when I right click on that and click merge, after clicking to allow it to run, when it asks to make changes to my computer the whole background went a dark red colour. I am just checking that this is fine and isn't a problem, because it got me a little worried.
  7. Sorry, these instructions have really confused me. Do you mean I should right-click on the link in your reply? When I do that, this is what comes up. Do I click "Save link as"? Also, "& guide the folder for saving to a folder ( do not double click / do not 'run' the file / nor open". I'm unsure of what you mean here. As in I should make a folder just for these three files?
  8. Virus and threat protection is still saying the service has stopped, and pressing Restart now doesn't work, just like earlier.
  9. Umm, okay so I did all of that, when I double-clicked on mpam-fe.exe the loading symbol appeared on my curser for a few seconds then disappeared, other than that nothing happened? Is something else supposed to have happened here?
  10. I'd just like to say thank you for helping try to fix this issue, it seems like a more complicated issue than I first thought. Looking at it, it still says the service has stopped, and restarting it still does not work.
  11. Premium ran out yesterday night, so this all took affect when I opened my computer this morning. Well, to be more specific, the malwarebytes app on my PC wasn't updating to the fact that my premium had lapsed, so I manually deactivated it. That all happened around midday, around 6 hours ago. I uninstalled it a few hours ago because many solutions that I read online to similar problems said that sometimes its due to a previous antimalware program messing with things still. I did at first uninstall it through the control panel, but then read online that many antimalware services will still leave some stuff behind unless using the uninstall tool online. After reading that, I downloaded the support tool (because that is what I read online should be used), redownloaded malwarebytes just to scan my system again to make absolutely sure there wasn't some malware screwing things up, then after that scan I used the tool to uninstall it.
  12. Hello, thank you for the reply. Here is the link to the microsoft forums post Windows Virus and Threat Protection has stopped and cannot be - Microsoft Community Yes it was the mb-support-1.8 tool that was used. All of the files you have requested are attached. Addition.txt FRST.txt FSS.txt
  13. Hello all, I have already posted about this on the microsoft forums but since my problem relates to Malwarebytes maybe this forum would be able to help as well. I have Windows 10. I previously had Malwarebytes premium for a year but decided to not renew it because Windows Defender would be sufficient. Since Malwarebytes reverted to the free version, windows virus and threat protection has stopped and it cannot be restarted. Below is what it looks like. Clicking the "Restart now" button causes it to load for around a minute before saying it was unable to do this because a problem occurred (error message shown below). I've tried multiple things to fix this. I used Malwarebytes' uninstaller tool to remove it, so that there is no other antivirus on my PC as far as I know, but this did not fix it. I ran an SFC scan, it said it fixed some missing/corrupted files but it didn't fix the problem. I ran DISM, again didn't solve the issue. I quite urgently need some fixes to this, because obviously a non-functioning Defender isn't exactly great. At this point I am thinking I should just factory reset my PC, but I don't even know if that would solve the problem.
