  1. Possible Cause: This can happen during an upgrade to IE 8 or during a malware attack. I have seen cases where IE's automatic settings can become disabled, and Proxy settings can be enabled. This will cause Internet Explorer to lose connectivity in a LAN environment, while everything else can connect. IE 8 can be installed knowingly, or come through Windows Update automatically and not be noticed until you go to run it. For the Malwarebytes updates to work, you must be able to browse the web through IE. To check on this, do the following 1) Open Internet Explorer 8 2) Go to the Tools menu 3) Select Internet Options 4) Go to the Connection Tab 5) Click the LAN Settings button 6) Check the first friendly box you see (right at the top): Automatically Detect Settings Hope that helps.
