  1. An app called "alarm" installed and started spamming this fake lock screen on my phone this morning, I'm curious if anyone else has had something similar happen? If so, getting rid of the alarm app immediately fixed it. It seems like they're just shotgun blasting junk apps onto the phone today all of the sudden
  2. There was a firmware update last week and I tried it thinking that it couldn't make the phone any worse. After the update malwarebytes no longer flags the settings app, but I did notice an odd blank notification from an app called essqz, which I had never seen before. It could have been installed already, but if so I never noticed it when going through the apps lists over and over the past few months trying to clear out malware. It certainly never gave a notification before... a google search didn't turn up any results for it. I also seem to be unable to update any apps in the google play store; they get stuck at "pending" and never go forward from there. Again, only since the firmware update. To reiterate, I've had luck avoiding pretty much all of the popups and malware after resetting my phone and keeping wifi completely off, so from that last reset up until now I still hadn't seen anything suspicious. I'm not sure if anyone else has gotten the update and noticed anything different
  3. My phone also became an unusable brick after a week or so, it constantly locked up and failed to respond. The solution I've found for now is to do a factory reset, then keep wifi and data off as much as possible and avoid updating anything just in case. No malware has become active yet and I can use the phone for SMS messages and calls at least. It seems like it's the wifi in particular that is important to keep off, I've left data on for a few hours at a time for things like my driving app and nothing bad has happened yet.
  4. I'm also having this issue (also on a UMX phone)- Android keeps installing Yourtube even after a factory reset and then I end up with popups to tarot card games. Malwarebytes scans the app and finds no problems. I did have these issues before after initially receiving the phone and I suspected the malware was embedded in the firmware itself, but a firmware update seemed to remove the malware and fix the issue (I've gone months without the problem). There was a firmware update relatively recently, I can't think of any other reason for it to suddenly start up again.
