  1. I have a few issues with Windows XP after I removed malware from my pc. I'm fairly certain that the malware is gone (I used Spybot, Symantec Antivirus, and Malwarebytes to get rid of it). However icons in the taskbar where the notification area is have dissappeared, the programs for those icons still work though. For example Symantec Anti-virus's icon is no longer in the notification area but if I start the program up, it works fine. But when I right click on a file to scan it for viruses, that option no longer works but as far as I can tell everything else for the program functions correctly. My firewall icon in the notification area also is gone but I can start it up and it goes into the tray (but after reboot it is gone again). The same problem happens with my Nvidia icon in the tray (It's gone). Also quite a few desktop icons are gone aswell (the programs for them still work though.) I have Microsoft internet explorer 7 but I had to re-install it after I removed the malware since some of the options weren't functioning correctly and it was very slow. It works fine now but it is still very slow for some reason. Is there a way I can restore my settings back to the way they were before I got malware on my pc? I tried System Restore but every time I tried to restore a checkpoint it would tell me that it couldn't. My first priority to fix is mainly the issue with the notification bar because my printer icon was there and I don't see it there anymore (however I can still print, it just no longer tells me when my printer is connected or not) These pictures show the before and after of my computer's notification area: This is before malware removal: This is after malware removal:
