  1. Just wanted to report another instance of this. I've had FastStone Image Viewer installed on my PC for years without issue until Malwarebytes flagged it today. I'm guessing there was a definition update that might have caused this? I haven't updated FastStone recently either. I also am not sure whether it's necessary to attach a file considering FastStone Image Viewer is a legit program that, to the best of my knowledge, isn't known for carrying malware in all the years it's been available. This is most likely an issue on Malwarebytes' end.
  2. I've been running the latest MB component update for the past 24 hours with all protections enabled (including ransomware), and so far everything seems to be working much better. There haven't been any instances of freezing/stuttering thus far with Chrome or other apps, and the MBAM service is no longer constantly topping CPU usage. It looks like the issue may be fixed, at least on my PC. Thank you to the MB team for the timely assistance!
  3. I would also like to confirm that the issue appears to be related to Ransomware protection. I posted to another existing thread about this issue around two weeks ago and my post was later split into its own thread, but for some reason I didn't receive any notifications from the forum about responses (I'm subscribed to threads and checked my spam box and there were no emails from the forum), and the thread was closed before I realized there had been activity in my absence. Instead of creating yet another thread about this very same issue, I hope it's all right if I continue the discussion here. I've recently been toggling ransomware protection on and off and can confirm that both Chrome and my system in general run much smoother when it's off. I would like to make clear that I was experiencing this issue in Windows 10 v1809 and updating to v1903 made no difference, so I've ruled out Windows itself as being the cause. I also have an automated backup program (Acronis True Image) that comes with its own ransomware protection, which I have switched off. To my knowledge, that program has not caused the hitching. It's only when I turn on MB's ransomware protection that I start experiencing frequent hanging and high CPU usage (MBAM service often tops the list at 15-17% utilization at the same time the freezing occurs). Chrome seems to exacerbate these issues, but I consistently encounter stuttering and hanging while playing games or using other programs. Again, the freezing stops when ransomware protection is disabled. The other protections don't seem to cause any performance hit that I'm aware of. Based on the numerous reports about this same issue that have cropped up recently, it would appear that this is a relatively common occurrence among MB users, and I hope it will be addressed soon. Thanks for the help!
  4. Hi, I hope this isn't considered necroposting, but I've been experiencing similar issues (intermittent freezing or hanging for a few seconds when using Chrome or other programs) with all Malwarebytes real-time protection settings enabled, and this thread described almost the exact issue I was having, so I thought I'd add to it instead of creating another similar post. I've noticed this issue happening on an almost daily basis for the past several months at least, but kept attributing it to some other program or system process; however, recently I've started monitoring my CPU usage more closely, and I noticed that every time the freezing occurs, the Malwarebytes process is at the top of the list with about 15-16% CPU, which doesn't seem like much, but has led me to suspect that it may somehow be contributing to the problem. The issue is particularly noticeable when I have Chrome open, and as the original poster mentioned, I also have experienced hitching when watching YouTube videos or even just casually scrolling through a webpage. I even had some momentary freezing and lag when registering to the forum and typing up this post. I've attached my event logs, and if it's any help at all, I noticed that freezing occured around 10:45pm and 10:50pm EDT as of today. There may have been a few other instances of it happening as well, but those were the times when the system was noticeably unresponsive and I was able to make note of the time. I tried doing a memory dump of the MBAM service as well, but I got an access denied prompt. I'm running the latest version of Windows (1903) and actually updated my system in the hope that it would solve the freezing problem, but it's so far persisted regardless of system or driver updates. Again, it's worst and most obvious when Chrome is open. As the OP stated, I really don't want to turn off any real-time protection, so I've just tried to live with the freezing, but it can honestly get irritating (scrolling stops, typing can get interrupted, videos hang, etc.) and can make even doing simple tasks on the PC rather unpleasant. Any help with this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks! mbst-grab-results.zip
