  2. Kevin, I cannot seem to find the adwcleaner.exe file to open the program as an administrator. where would the file be located? I ran the adware cleaner and it has been running for 20min and hasnt moved from the same spot, but its still counting up without the progress bar stuck. is that normal? it says 17 items quarantined.
  3. Kevin thanks for the reply. Here is the log from a scan i just did moments ago: Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.com -Log Details- Scan Date: 9/7/19 Scan Time: 12:21 PM Log File: 97252db4-d18b-11e9-b391-ac220b034dd6.json -Software Information- Version: 3.8.3.2965 Components Version: 1.0.613 Update Package Version: 1.0.12367 License: Trial -System Information- OS: Windows 8.1 CPU: x64 File System: NTFS User: System -Scan Summary- Scan Type: Threat Scan Scan Initiated By: Scheduler Result: Completed Objects Scanned: 283833 Threats Detected: 5 Threats Quarantined: 4 Time Elapsed: 12 min, 30 sec -Scan Options- Memory: Enabled Startup: Enabled Filesystem: Enabled Archives: Enabled Rootkits: Disabled Heuristics: Enabled PUP: Detect PUM: Detect -Scan Details- Process: 0 (No malicious items detected) Module: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Key: 0 (No malicious items detected) Registry Value: 1 PUP.Optional.SearchManager.BITSRST, HKU\S-1-5-21-2857835430-3624040574-4162862221-1003\SOFTWARE\GOOGLE\CHROME\PREFERENCEMACS\Default\extensions.settings|hmamdkecijcegebmhndhcihjjkndbjgk, Quarantined, [269], [626729],1.0.12367 Registry Data: 0 (No malicious items detected) Data Stream: 0 (No malicious items detected) Folder: 0 (No malicious items detected) File: 4 PUP.Optional.SearchManager.BITSRST, C:\USERS\SUSAN BROYLES\APPDATA\LOCAL\GOOGLE\CHROME\USER DATA\Default\Secure Preferences, Removal Failed, [269], [626729],1.0.12367 PUP.Optional.SearchManager.BITSRST, C:\USERS\SUSAN BROYLES\APPDATA\LOCAL\GOOGLE\CHROME\USER DATA\Default\Preferences, Replaced, [269], [626729],1.0.12367 PUP.Optional.SearchManager.BITSRST, C:\USERS\SUSAN BROYLES\APPDATA\LOCAL\GOOGLE\CHROME\USER DATA\Default\Secure Preferences, Replaced, [269], [626729],1.0.12367 PUP.Optional.SearchManager.BITSRST, C:\USERS\SUSAN BROYLES\APPDATA\LOCAL\GOOGLE\CHROME\USER DATA\Default\Secure Preferences, Replaced, [269], [628563],1.0.12367 Physical Sector: 0 (No malicious items detected) WMI: 0 (No malicious items detected) (end) as you can see this PUP file is still present. 5 threats detected and only 4 quarantined. I will run the adware software and farbar recovery tool next and report back. thanks again.
  4. So i have a windows laptop and I just downloaded Malwarebytes to scan for viruses. First scan found several hundred viruses. I quarantined them and removed them and scanned a 2nd time. 2nd time found 5 viruses during the heuristics phase of the scan. it keeps finding this PUP type malware and no matter how many times you scan the computer it cannot be completely removed. If i scan the pc, and say it finds 5 threats, it will only allow 4 to be quarantined, always leaving 1 of itself to remain on my pc. I have now scanned several times and it is still there everytime, with all threats quarantined with the exception of 1, every single scan. Is there anything i can do to get rid of this pesky PUP malware? I have saved the report but I dont know if I should post it here on a public forum in case it contains any personal info. Thanks.
