  1. Aura - thanks for the reference; it brought me up to date on the problem and attempts by MB to get things straightened out with Google. bill_k - thanks for the thread you mentioned. That seems to be consolidating responses and developments. I will follow there. For the time being I will hold off on running the MB diagnostic tool. As a first time user of MB's forum I appreciate the prompt responses. Be well.

Today I receives notification on google chrome to go to settings / advanced / and under "reset and clean up" click on update or remove incompatible applications, and then to decide if I want to update or remove the application noted, which was malwarebytes. My malwarebytes premium (home version) is up to date: V. 3.5.1.2522. I have been running it for months and just received this notification. I did NOT remove the application. I then ran a custom scan including rootkits and no problems noted. Suggestions? Thanks in advance
