  1. Amen to that, allthough i do know they recenly changed their t+c`s to accomadate this. I suppose only the future will tell, or hopefully cnet will realise this is not a good move Also they don`t seem to be the only hosters using this "buisiness model".
  2. Maybe some of you are aware of the recent discovery that cnet and their download.com hosting site have recently started wrapping all software in their own proprietary installer which has opt-in to install a toolbar and change your home page! Now i realise that most who frequent this forum will just state that you should watch what your doing when installing a product, make sure to not just click next, etc, etc. But is this really the point? Is it right that download.com are doing this, will a lot of people install the software and end up with said "improvements" on their system without really understanding why. They just wanted to install Malwarebytes surely. Maybe they allready have a malware issue and think this could be a consequence of that. Is this really the Bing homepage or a phishing site! Apparently not all software is yet wrapped (btw, even paid for listings are being wrapped) but it seems that it could be a case of the next time you upload a new version of your program, it will happen. I don`t agree with it, is it really acceptable in this day and age, especially when it`s a security company involved...
  3. Cheers kimsland, i just noticed the thread with the link you referanced (it`s right above this one) couldn`t see it before... Cheers
  4. Hello all, just a quick clarification if anyone would be so kind. I`ve got a lappie from a friends daughter which he has asked me to clean up It has several infections so i may end up re-installing but first i thought i`d give cleaning a go. Now i know for a fact it had the Kido worm so am reluctant to give it internet access just yet. Having downloaded MBAM and installed today am i right in thinking the way to get the latest updates onto the laptop is to copy "rules.ref" from my up to date copy and transfer it to the laptop i`m installing it on via usb? The rules.ref says 10/09/2009 i don`t know if that`s Stateside or tother side of pond but mine gives 16/10/2009 (doh that answers the date format). Mucho appreciated.. Matty
  5. Right behind you MBAM, this is a despicable thing to do I suppose the only positive that can be gleaned from this, as court action is probably going to be very difficult and costly, is that you are going to get a lot of publicity with regards to your product and IObit and going to get the opposite. This will hopefully expand your customer base and get the word out to a lot more, allthough most who follow security know about you anyway. The fact they fell into your trap hook, line and sinker shows that they obviously weren`t making much of an effort to hide what they where doing, it`s pretty laughable if it wasn`t so serious!
  6. Hi GMM, Try doing this in Comodo V3. Defence+/Advanced/Computer Security Policy. Now find the Comodo Firewall Pro entry and highlight it/Click "Edit" In the new window click "Protection Settings"/Now click "Modify" next to "Interprocess Memory Access" Now click "Add" and then "Browse".Find the MBAM entry in program files/Highlight it/Click on the arrow to move it to the right section(should end up with C:Program Files\Malwarebytes`Anti-Malware*) [see screen shot] APPLY to close all windows. Reboot This sould make Defence+ ignore MBAM activities, let us know Matty
  7. I agree,WPA2 is the way to go,if using wireless,it was just a suggestion.
  8. Go into your router menu and have a look at the options available. For linksys i think its 192.168.1.1 in your address bar. You should then be able to do as suggested, turn off wireless and it may also be wise to set it up so your computers have reserved IP`s(you need to do this with the computer as well) and turn of DHCP.Also you could enable MAC filtering. Matty
  9. Many Thanks :-) Matty
