  1. My response from support after looking at my logs is that this behavior is "expected". Ransomware has a significant performance impact that exclusion list doesn't help with. Anyone that uses their system for either gaming or rapid development must turn off malwarebytes completely during those activities to avoid performance impact.
  2. Just an update that my response from support after looking at my logs is that this behavior is "expected". Ransomware has a significant performance impact that exclusion list doesn't help with. Anyone that uses their system for either gaming or rapid development must turn off malwarebytes completely during those activities.
  3. Thanks Lisa for looking into this....I really appreciate it!
  4. Hi Lisa, Is there any evidence of infection that dcollins asked me to create a thread here to rule out? I just wanted to check in so I can move along with a support ticket in the correct direction.
  5. I just reverified behavior... With Malwarebytes running my machine takes 40 seconds to recompile code changes, despite my code directory being fully excluded. If I shut down Malwarebytes it takes 20 seconds to recompile each change (30 seconds with MB on and I disable ransomware). I am assuming this is due to my compile calling java installed in a directory which is not excluded but I am just guessing. Dcollins seemed to indicate my exclusions were not taking effect...I am curious if you see the same thing in the logs. Let me know if you would like me to try reinstalling MB or if there is anything else I can provide that might help! malwarebytesLog2.txt Addition.txt FRST.txt
  6. Ok! I created the new thread as recommended:
  7. Malwarebytes exclusion list may not be taking effect and I was asked to post some logs here: Let me know if there is anything more I can do or provide (I don't mind reinstalling Malwarebytes if that might help) malwarebytesLog.txt Addition.txt FRST.txt
  8. Is it possible that the reason you see no exclusions in the logs despite them being setup could be part of the problem? I set the exclusions while under trial and am worried that perhaps they are not taking effect or something when I upgrade to premium. Is there anything more I can do to help identify why code directory doesn't seem to be excluded from ransomware despite being marked as excluded in the UI?
  9. The code directory is excluded from everything since I installed Malwarebytes.
  10. Ok! Sorry about that. How about this?
  11. I used the tool and created ticket 2285557 and hopefully those logs are attached. I did a build with default protection and my build directory fully excluded. Let me know if that gives you what you need. (I felt more comfortable doing that than attaching media since I didn't want to reveal details of my build env to the public am not sure if the download of attached media is public)
  12. For my case, it does appear that Ransomware has the most effect. Turning it off doesn't neutralize the effect of MB but it has the single most individual impact. There is so much randomness it is hard to get a beat on exactly what is taking the time but I attempted to time my compile step on Windows 10 PC in seconds here using what is hopefully obvious abbreviations: MB off 26 28 22 28 MB on (default) 46 42 51 52 46 -allSettings 25 22 28 (MB on with settings all off seem to neutralize any impact as expected) -self 48 (looks like self protection actually has no real effect in my case) -web 50 (web has no effect) -exp 45 46 47 (exploit protection seems to have minor effect) -mal 50 (malware protection has no effect) -ran 32 30 34 30 31 38 (ransomware seems to have significant but not 100% of the effect) -web -exp -mal -ran 27 -web -exp -mal -ran -self 25 25 -exp -mal -ran 28 -exp -ran 29 (perhaps exploit and ransom combined make up 100% of the effect) -scanOpts 45 (scan options seem to have no effect) Do you need a reproducible test case (ie should I spend the time to make something you can run to see the same problem)? I guess for now the best thing for me to do is run with ransomware disabled? Is there a way to make MB stop telling me I have it off? Is it possible for ransomware (and exploit protection to a minor degree) to better honor the exclusion rules?
  13. I have a very similar problem and created a ticket here. I have to turn off Malwarebytes on my pc anytime I want to do development which is also 90% of the time. I also see another ticket here that suggests it is the self protection module if that helps you.
  14. After purchasing Malwarebytes, I noticed my java development environment (playframework) recompile time on code change double from 10s to 20s, despite the dev directory being completely excluded. My morning ritual is now to startup my computer and quit Malwarebytes. This link seems to suggest it is the self-protection module that causes the slowdown. I assume it is the java process that is causing the issue but I don't want to exclude java because I assume java could be unsafe and should be monitored as long as it is not called from my dev directory. (Note that there is another issue here that appears to be a similar issue that support may want to handle at the same time.) How do I have malwarebytes on safely without impact to java compile time under a completely whitelisted directory?
