  1. Hi, Over the weekend, I was infected with a virus which uses a Java backdoor to install itself. I ran Rkill.exe to kill it and then MBAM full scan to remove it. MBAM found about 25 infected objects, a mixture of things in temp files, registry problems, etc etc. I did as it told me and was instructed to do a reboot in order to finish the cleaning process. It was after this that I got the Black Screen of Death on bootup, followed by a motherboard beep and a reboot. I did a system restore in the recovery console and this allowed me to boot to the Black SOD and keep it stable. Explorer.exe doesn't and won't run, but I can use task manager and launch software through it, etc. I have checked the registry and the key for Shell is explorer.exe when I access it from within Windows, but cmd.exe/k start cmd/exe when I access it from the recovery console :S It seems that the Black SOD after an MBAM scan is a known issue with some Vista systems, and I would be very grateful if I could get some support with sorting it (because the only other option atm is to reinstall Vista and format my pc :S) Thanks very much in advance, Matt
  2. Hi, Sorry for making a second thread - i made one before and then replied to it before seeing that the rules dont allow it so please delete that - i've combined all the info into this one so we can start afresh I've today been infected by a virus. I know where I got it from - and I can provide a link if that would help people to get it. I had and a.exe b.exe and msa.exe - these dont seem to be coming up but sometings clearly wrong. ESET doesnt find anythign wrong at all - so I installed AVAST. However, after I installed it, the exe was deleted. I downloaded hijackthis and malwarebytes - but the EXEs for this were also delted (I tried the randomised version - to no avail). My internet has been hijacked so Google searches transfer to random stuff. There was no trace of this in the DNS settings. I renamed malwarebytes.exe to explorer.exe as advised on another forum - now explorer has stopped working and I think the malware is stopping it from starting. I would greatly appreciate any help - I need some work done by tomorrow and its currently impossible Thanks Matt
  3. Sorry to bump this but I really have to get it fixed because I have work to do for tomorrow
  4. Oh and I forgot to mention - my Google is hijacked, but I cant see any sign of hijacking in the TCP/IP settings.
