  1. Please try the following:

    • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
    • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
    • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
      • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
      • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

  2. Hello zoot56,

Having 2 iexplore.exe processes is normal. Account hacking can happen in different ways, it doesn't have necessarily to do with key logging, it can also be due to phishing. A video crash can happen, too, from time to time.

Therefore, I can't tell you whether your computer is infected or not.

If you would like to have your computer checked, please read the following:

Don't use any temporary file cleaners unless requested - this can cause data loss and make recovery difficult

  5. Yes, the aero shake can be turned off via registry tweak, but then you also disable the whole aero theme as far as I know. I first wanted to make sure that this is indeed the source of your problem before suggesting any further steps.

I'm happy to hear that you have been able to solve the issue :)

  6. Me: “9-1-1, police, fire, or ambulance?”

    Caller: “Help, please God, help!”

    Me: “Sir, what’s the emergency?”

Caller: “Someone’s trying to break into my house! Please, send the cops!”

Me: “Calm down… the police are well on the way as we are talking.”

Caller: “I don’t want to die! Oh my God, why me?”

Me: “Sir, take a deep breath. Do you know this person?”

Caller: “Yeah, I ordered some pizza, I paid, and he gave it to me. I can see through the window it’s him… he’s pounding on my door trying to get in! Where are the cops?!”

Me: “Sir, I’ll stay on the phone with you if it makes you feel safer. Can you yell what he wants?”

Caller: “Okay…” *yells toward the door* “What do you want, man?!”

Pizza guy: *faintly, behind the door* “You forgot your change!”

Me: Thank you for calling ***, X speaking how may I…

Client: *thick accent* “Yes, hello? Are you there?”

    Me: “Yes?”

Caller: “I just tried purchase insurance.”

    Me: “Ok?”

    Caller: “It said error.”

Me: “Ok, what else does it say?”

    Caller: “Just error.”

Me: “Well, that can be anything. Normally it says more specific details. Is there anything else it says?”

Caller: “I think it has something to do with the beneficiary part.”

Me: “You mean for the life insurance portion?”

Caller: “Yes. I put myself as the beneficiary for my policy, isn’t that what I’m supposed to put?”

Me: “So, you put yourself as the person who receives the money if you die?”

    Caller: “Yes. Isn’t that right?”

    Me: *facepalm*

Me: “Thank you for calling. May I please verify your address and phone number?”

(The caller rattles off an address, including the apartment number.)

Caller: “… that’s why I’m calling. What’s this about a ‘dog’ in my address?”

(I notice her address has the words “DASIN DOG”.)

Me: ”I’m sorry, ma’am. I have no explanation for that. I can certainly remove it. Also, we don’t seem to have your apartment number. Would you mind repeating that for me?”

Caller: “D! D as in Dog!”

  8. Me: “Can you check the cable from the wall to your router?”

    Customer: “What cable?”

Me: “The DSL cable. The one that goes from the phone-outlet in the wall, to the router.”

Customer: “That ‘wall’ you are talking about…is that something you installed for me?”

  9. Me: “Hi. We are calling from [company]. Would you have some time to take part in a survey about Ireland?”

Customer: “No, I can’t take part. I’m just a burglar here.”

Me: “Oh, okay… we will try again some time.”

Me: “Hello, thanks for calling [store], my name is Asia. How can I help you?”

Me: “Hello, this is [taxi service]. Can I have your pickup address please?”

    Caller: “I don’t know!”

Me: “Well, you will need to tell me some kind of an address.”

Caller: “Why can’t you just ‘GPS’ me?”

Me: “Okay, have you tried to see if the keys work?”

    Caller: “What do you mean?”

Me: “The car keys. They’re attached to the beeper.”

Caller: “Uh… how do I use them?”

Me: “Just like you would unlock anything that’s closed.”

Caller: “I don’t understand. I need to open the door to my car. How do I use keys to do that?”

Me: “You uh… put the key in the keyhole, turn it around and open the door.”

Caller: *pause* “Oh! Do you mean like the same way you

open the door to a house?”

Me: “Yes, it’s quite similar to that.”

Caller: *very enthusiastic* “Wow, okay! I’ll try that! If that doesn’t work, I’ll call right back!”

Me: “Good afternoon, thank you for calling [vitamin company]. This is [MyName]. How may I direct your call?” *long pause* “Hello?” *another long pause* “Hello?”

Caller: “Hi, I got your number from a natural cure. ”

Me: “How may I direct your call, sir?”

Caller: “I was reading a book.”

    Me: “Okay.”

Caller: “It had your number. Are you a vitamin store? With…vitamins and things?”

Me: “We are a vitamin manufacturer, sir. Do you have a question about a product?”

Caller: “I got your number from a natural cure book. Have you read it?”

    Me: “What book, sir?”

    Caller: “A natural cures book.”

Me: “I’m sorry, I have not. Did you have a question about a product that we manufacture?”

Caller: “Yeah, I got your number out of a natural cures book.”

Me: “Yes, there are a number of books that mention our products.”

Caller: *pauses* “…It was a BOOK.”

Me: “Yes, sir, I’m just trying to determine who can best assist you.”

Me: “What username are you using?”

    Teacher: “First_Lastname.”

Me: “So what is your first and last name?”

Teacher: “Oh…am I supposed to enter my real first and last name separated by an underscore?”

    Me: “As opposed to what?”

Teacher: “As opposed to typing ‘First_Lastname’?”

    ______________________________________________________________

Caller: “Hi, I think there’s a bug on your website. I can’t log into my account”

Me: “Okay, that may be a bug. Let me get some basic information from you. What internet browser are you using?”

    Caller: “What’s a browser?”

Me: “That’s what you use to surf the Internet. Popular browsers are Internet Explorer and Firefox.”

Caller: “Oh. I think I’m using Yahoo.”

    Me: “That’s a search engine.

    Caller: “Ask.com?”

Me: “That’s another search engine. I need to know what browser you use to get to that website.”

Caller: “Oh, I think I know what you mean. I’m using Hotmail.”

(This goes on for about 10 minutes. Eventually, we locate the bug. While I’m writing up the report, I’m making small-talk with the customer.)

Me: “You said you’re in college? What do you study?”

Caller: “Computer science. I’m really good at it!”

    ________________________________________________________________

Caller: “My Outlook isn’t working anymore. When I put my password in, it doesn’t log me in.”

Me: “Are you able to access your email using web-access for our email system?”

    Caller: “What’s that?”

(This is forgivable. Oftentimes, professors don’t know that they can access their work email using a website as well.)

Me: “Okay, well, if you just go to [site.domain.edu] and enter your credentials–”

    Caller: “What’s that?”

Me: “It’s the URL of the web access client. Just open your internet browser and type it in–”

    Caller: “What’s an internet browser?”

Me: “It’s the program you use to access the internet.”

    Caller: “What’s the internet?”

    Me: *speechless*

Me: “I could disable the port, but may I ask why?”

Customer: *whispering* “My son has been locked in his room since last night and he won’t come out or talk to me. He hasn’t eaten breakfast yet and it’s 3 pm.”

Me: “I suppose I could, however, you will need to call us to re-enable your connection.”

Customer: “Thank you! I don’t know what he’s doing in there on the computer. It’s been like this since we got your internet.”

Me: “Your connection has been disabled. Is there anything else I can do for you tonight?”

Customer: “No, thank you. I hope he comes out soon!”

Me: “Are you sure it’s not frozen?”

Caller: “You think this is some kind of joke! I don’t leave my computer in the snow!”

(I try to explain several times what the term ‘frozen’ means.)

Caller: “So, how do I heat it up? Never mind! Why do I even call you people? I’ll just stick it in the microwave to heat it up. Thanks for nothing!” *hangs up*

Caller: *slowly and deliberately* It’s all like ‘WHAAAAAAT’, and needs to be like ‘YAAYUUUUHHH’.

Me: “How about we just exchange the phone?”
