" imagine the left nav has Home | Security | Privacy | Identity | Settings as options where when you click on these, you get more catered security, privacy, and identity experiences and options. And then if you're just using our premium AV offer, the privacy and identity sections would still be on the left nav but when you clicked into them, we'd showcase the features you currently don't have (and hope that some want to learn more and even upgrade)."

The trouble is that I know what I want from Malwarbytes - just Security - exactly what I got with Malwarebytes 4.x

I don't want a bloated install with options that I will not use. Perhaps offer a 'lite' option during installation for those who know exactly what they want.

  2. The problem with adding 'extras' to the core product is that there are probably as many people who don't want it as do.

A case in point here is the integration of the Privacy VPN in version 5. For those wanting to use Malwarebytes VPN it seems acceptable, however for those that do not want a VPN or use another brand it seems to be nothing more than 'advertising' or 'bloatware' - hense all the discussions to hide/remove it.

I am a firm beliver that Malwarebytes should stick to their core product. Anything else 'Privacy VPN's', 'password managers' etc should be seperate programs.

@Dave77 we've released a work-around improvement for this with the latest beta release - VPN status now shows when hovering over tray icon (release details here). We will continue improving this experience in upcoming releases so that the status is visible without the need to hover over the tray icon.

    Many thanks.

I have noticed that even this first workaround has been 'dumbed down' compared to the hover over in the stand-alone Malwarebytes Privacy:

I look forward to the future improvements, and hope we can get back the missing features.

I can look into this one as well. Can you help me understand more about how you use the version information today? Looking for some context like...

    • Personal device: I use the version number to make sure I have the latest version and/or to confirm whether Malwarebytes is updated automatically.
    • Supporting others: I have friends/family/clients that contact me regarding Malwarebytes and I need to know the version number when assisting them.

Hi @H4V0C You have hit the nail on the head with both your statements.

I use Malwarebytes at home, on multiple devices,  including those of other members of the household. It becomes second nature when helping/supporting/fixing other family members devices to quickly check, for example, are they up to date? are they connected to VPN? etc.

On my own devices I find this information is almost checked subconsciously and I will notice if, for example the VPN has disconnected, or the version is out of date compared to the latest version (posted on a subscribed thread and notified from the forum).

It now becomes less obvious, and you have to conciously 'click' into things that were previously 'just there' making it a worse experience.

I also agree with previous posts that showing 'Other devices' (in the trusted Advisor section) for all devices on a licence is not helpful. I would not want other family members 'Viewing and resolving issues' on my devices. Unfortunately this has almost created the need for an 'administrator' login for the licence holder and a 'user' login for other family members (Perhaps beyond the scope of a personal product), or the ability to password protect the 'other devices' section, or hide/remove it completely.

Thanks for looking into these issues, and hopefully they can be resolved.

Three things I really dislike about MB5:

They took the version number out of the bubble:

It looks like they also took it off the title bar.

It is the little things like this that make all the difference. Now you have to go looking for the version number rather than having it presented to you.

  6. Just upgraded to Malwarebytes 5 on a test machine. As Privacy VPN is now built in, we have lost the visual indicator that the VPN is connected:

    image.jpeg.2017f9ce4cbb65f8e4784957e019ac66.jpeg

Version 4 taskbar with VPN installed: image.jpeg.37fc83e1ed5d130ea815448286611062.jpeg

This is a significant problem, as you can no longer just glance to check if VPN is connected, or hover over to check status and server.

Could the coloured dot be added to the Malwarbytes icon, and the VPN hover over information be added, if Premium Plus is installed and activated?

    Hello @Pluto

We believe this should be corrected at this point.

Just to confirm - I too am seeing no difference.

NetBIOS discovery in Windows Network is still the same.  Initially after boot, all computers/NAS show up  - then disappear after a while.  Turn off  Web Protection and refresh, and all immediately show up.

For me though, it is just NetBIOS discovery - I can still access everything.

I'm using 4.2.1 and am seeing something similar - on a reboot I can sometimes see all my network devices, but within 10 minutes or so I seem to lose all network devices for browsing. They're still there, they still work (e.g. networked music system) but browsing the network only shows my laptop. If I disable Web Protection, it all works normally again.

Is there an ETA for a fix for this, please?

Using Version 4.2.2.95 Component package 1.0.1096

I have found that my NAS that is discovered by WSD is showing consistently in Windows Network.

My second (older) NAS and Raspberry Pi's that are discovered by NetBIOS initially show up, but disappear after a certain time (many minutes).  They can still be accessed, just not discovered in Windows Network.

Disabling  Web Protection immediately allows NetBIOS discovery computers to be seen.

It seems that the accidental block for Web Services for Devices (WSD) may have also affected NetBIOS discovery, the latest version has removed the accidental block for WSD but NetBIOS discovery is still affected.

So why is it having any effect whatsoever on the discovery of a simple local NAS device?

    Might be worth looking into:

I am just surprised that there have not been other reports of this problem.  I can't be the only Samsung cell phone owner who uses SmartSwitch to backup his/her phone?

    Hi

I have just found this thread as I appear to have the same thing happening since upgrading to Premium with Real-time protection running.

Backing up a Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 7 to PC running Windows 10
