    Hi Sherm,

Thanks for the information. We'll need some additional data to see exactly what's going on.

Could you run the Malwarebytes Support Tool and attach the generated mbst-grab-results.zip file please.
Instructions can be found here: https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2396

    Thank you!

    Hi Lt,

as it turns out, my wife and I left for another vacation trip yesterday and will be away until well l into October. So, let's put this on the shelf until we are home and I am back at my computer....

    thanks, as always. 😉😎

  2. Hi LT..

I have been traveling for the last few days, and could not respond to your latest post. I have gone through the processes as you outlined above, but see no MBW icons or other indications of activity. However, when I click the desktop shortcut for MBW, its window appears giving me a status report. btw, when you wrote about my using the power button on the face of the computer, perhaps I did not make myself clear. I had shut down in the proper way, letting W10 go through its shutdown procedures before my screen went dark and all hard drive activity stopped. So, I am certain that I initiated a cold start.

Do you see any value in my uninstalling the Beta and reinstalling it?

  3. Hi LT....normally, I shut down the computer at the end of my day...I have it set so that I can restart by touching the keyboard. This morning, after reading your post, I shut down as usual, but used the button on the face of the computer case to restart...still no change in MWB.

I have MWB set to scan every morning at 0630 CDT.  it is in a self started scan now as I write this, visible in the task bar

Bottom line to your question is that I see no noticable change from the issue that spawned my post. The program does its job in the background. While running it shows up in the task bar with a visible green progress line during the scan, but only if I double click on the desktop app.. So, that seems to answer your question about whether the tray app starts or not.

As for your earlier point, the program shows up as Automatic in services.msc. btw, I also checked msconfig for startup programs. I was referred to the task master startup list. That is different from how msconfig operated in W7...

The scan has completed while writing this, it took less than 10 minutes, reporting  what I know are 4  false positives. Otherwise, no problems. Again, thanks for your interest.

  4. Hi LT,

After reading your latest comment I did some checking and saw that MB was not listed among my startup programs. So, I remedied that, along with the tray app, and rebooted. MB still does not show among the hidden icons in the box at the bottom right on the task bar. But, it did run on its own at its scheduled 0630 time this morning, and took nearly 19 minutes. No problems were reported. btw, I am running MB concurrently with Windows Defender. Both seem to play nice together.

I also run Win Patrol paid addition. It always reports any changes to startup or other areas...but, did not make any such report this morning in re MB being added.

I am also puzzled by the fact that even after adding it to my startup list, no MB icons appear where I would expect them, but the program does start as scheduled.

    Hi @shermank,

A notification is still displayed when a scheduled scan completes.

Were you at the computer when the scan was reported to have finished? Note the notification will self-dismiss itself, so if you were not at the computer you may have missed it. Also note that if the Malwarebytes user interface is in focus, the notification will not be displayed.

I was at the computer during the scan. I did not see a notification until I brought up and activated the app on my PC desktop with a right mouse click..then I saw the notification. This is a bit different from what was expecting, but I am satisfied that my daily scheduled scan is running as expected. btw, normally with the previous MWB, an icon was tucked away within the upward carat hidden icon box on the right side of the task bar. Does that make sense to you...:-)...hope I have explained that correctly.

  6. Thanks for your interest and comments. I am learning that Beta behaves somewhat differently from my previous Premium installations of the program. This morning, a scan ran without any notification.  Because I was not sure whether the scheduled scan had run, I opened up the program to learn that it had, in less than 9  minutes, which I think is satisfactory. The scan covered almost 360,000 files and reported 4 are malware. However, I believe those are false positives, so I am ignoring that.

I probably should read the docs and find my own answer, but how do I set MWB to automatically report the end of a scan and the results, just as my previous version did? Thanks, again.

  7. Greetings,

I am using Beta 4.0.1 along with Windows 10 Defender. W10 up to date with all security KBs, etc.

Compared to my previous Malwarebytes, the Beta seems to be running very slow. Is that normal because it may be probing deeper? It usually takes well more than 5 minutes just to scan memory. As I was writing this, the scan completed, taking nearly 20 minutes. As usual, I am told I have a clean computer, which is good news.
