MBAM PRO Download has virus at CNET site

Thanks for the info. As I mentioned I was able to quarantine the 2 virus'. -
Hi all, I some how deleted my MBAM while cleaning house, so attempted to download a new copy from the MBAM site. Clicking for the Pro download I was sent to the download that appears at the CNET site. I clicked the run button on the window where upon the .exe file was downloaded to my desktop and the language window appeared. The various languages were scrolling wildly up and down and wouldn't allow me to see English so realizing something was screwed up I decided to start over and clicked the window off. I tried to navigate to my Download folder to delete the .exe file and with great difficulty because as windows was quivering I did. Then the screen froze so I did a hard shut down. I could not boot again as the computer emitted a ringing noise and wouldn't start, the screen being black. After a few more attempts, I for no particular reason hit the F1 key repeatedly and it finally boot. I accessed my scan screen on my Avast! AV and started a Quick scan. The scan produced 2 high priority viruses. Upon the scan ending I quickly quarantined the viruses and all was well again. I urge all to avoid this download at all cost, and I need a place to download a clean copy of MBAM PRO. Thanks for a solution in advance.

I will include my stats asap. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Exile360, Thanks for responding. As I run XPsp3 I followed your instructions to where I downloaded mbam-clean.exe. I downloaded it and clicked to run it and a dialog box appeared saying "SHGETVALUE Failed with code 0. Can you advise me what to do? Thanks.

I would like to modify my first sentence above. I clicked my MBAM icon, connected to the interface and when I clicked Update the error appeared.
-
I'm using v1.46 Pro. I clicked my MBAM icon to access the interface, and the following error appeared: mbam_error_load_database(0,5) I uninstalled MBAM and attenpted to re-install it, and the install stopped telling me there was an error and couldn't proceed. I did a search to see if any thing had been left behind during the uninstall, and there is a dll left in the MBAM program folder. You can't delete the dll. I am guessing the error is in that dll file, but only guessing. So I can't re-install MBAM and don't know what do do. Can someone please help? Thanks in advance.

That's great news. Congratulations!

I updated to v1.44 last night. You might take a look.

OK will do. Thanks again.

Whatmeworry, I should mention as noted in an earlier post, that I actually solved the problem by removing PerfectDisk defragger from the startup on logon in Autoruns. I only added the delete app to make it start 50 seconds later as insurance, because I had started my scanner software while my computer was still booting up which made the problem return.
-
Thanks for the response. From what you said about your suggestion, do you think I should forgo the Delay app I installed and use your instructions, or do you think I can leave it as is?
-
Hi exile 360, Thanks for that suggestion. Marktreg had suggested this free app that will delay MBAM or anything else. http://www.r2.com.au/software.php?page=2&show=startdelay After I last had contact with you, I plugged in my scanner as my computer was booting and the problem returned. I guess the scanner software booting at the same time as the computer was too much with MBAM protection activated. I have never done that before. The scanner usually gets turned on after I've been on for a while. I installed the free Delay app and set MBAM to start 45 seconds after booting starts, and MBAM starts to load just as everything else is done. I can always make it longer if I have to, but all is well. How many megabits of RAM does MBAM paid require? I couldn't find a reference to it. My computer has 1 GB RAM with almost 500mb available, so I'm wondering if MBAM's RAM is pushing it.

Exile 360, Perfect Disk is the culprit. I hope that helps you.
-
Sure. I have to say that I only guessed when I selected Sbie and PD. I'll post back later today. I'll try SBie first because I didn't like the way it loaded it's system tray icon.
-
Exile360, Thanks for responding. I already had excluded those files in OP, but thanks for the suggestion. As I said in a reply to Marktreg, I believe the problem is now fixed. I hope the fix helps someone else who has the same problem.
-
Hi Marktreg, OK for the benefit of the readers of this thread, I took your advice and unchecked 3 apps in Autorun to lighten the load at bootup, thus allowing MBAM to complete startup and avoiding the hang. PerfectDisk in the Boot Execute tab, iTunes Helper in the Logon tab, and Sandboxie in the Logon tab. I enabled "Start with Windows" in MBAM and successfully did 8 bootups or restarts, so I'm going to say cautiously that the problem is fixed. Thanks again Marktreg for all your help.
-
Hi Marktreg, I want to thank you for the extraordinary effort on your part to solve this problem. I'm sure that some where in your suggestions is the answer. I will narrow it down little by little and hopefully find the culprit. It may take some time, but if I do I'll be sure to pass it on to you so if someone else has this problem, they can fix it quickly. Tom
