  1. Interestingly, I left it as it was all night and woke up to it telling me the install was complete, however, I'm assuming since I force quit, it did not install. Malwarebytes did not appear in the Applications folder or anywhere else on the drive after a thorough search. I installed it again and it finished in less than 5 minutes, launched it, scanned and it found nothing. So far the drive is still slow but not as bad as it was yesterday. I rarely use this tower as I am networked to it from my newer/faster laptop primarily. I have had several drives fail in the past, so I'm going to be cautious and watch it and hope that all stays well until I can afford to fix it. Thank you again for your assistance and advice, much appreciated.
  2. OK, thanks. The S.M.A.R.T. status for the physical drive does say "Verified" so at least there's that.
  3. Thanks, I restarted in recovery mode this morning and it found issues and said they were repaired, so I thought trying Malwarebytes would be OK. After Disk Utility repaired them, it was still running slowly so Apple forums suggested Malwarebytes. I had success doing the same process on my MacBook Pro recently after running and removing with Malwarebytes. At least that system is running now.
  4. I was afraid of that. I have not replaced a hard drive in this computer but it wouldn't surprise me. I have 3 other internal hard drives installed in this tower, this is the one I run all applications from and don't store any working files on. I have a separate drive that I use for Time Machine backups and another that houses my working files that backs up via Carbonite as well as Time Machine. I have a trusted Mac repairman I use locally but of course I'm super short on funds right now. Was hoping for a simple solution although I didn't expect one. Thank you for your quick response, it's been a terrible day.
  5. I forgot to add that I cannot select Cancel or Restart, they are grayed out.
  6. I was told to download and run Malwarebytes for my Mac on the Apple forums due to my machine running super slowly. I downloaded it and then I stupidly forced quit the installation as it took well over an hour and never finished. I attempted to restart my computer but this message is what I get. I've attached the info for my Mac. This has been a long, stressful day with a sluggish machine and I just wanted to be done, now I feel like an idiot. Did I royally screw this up? Thank you.
