  1. I liked NOD32 before, till version 8. Considering it now. It is not complicated for me. Had Bitdefender Free before NOD32, but it was more than 10 years ago, I think. Back then it was not so versatile. I will give it a try, free version of course. I don't think Bitdefender would have any impact on my gaming PC (4790K overclocked and other good stuff). What I like about MBAM, in addition to its features, is this forum. Very helpful staff, not like the others. Thanks for advice. Edit. PC Tools Firewall is no more, last supported Win OS is Win7. I have Win 8.1 with ClassicShell (makes it look and feel like Win7). And I saw reports on Cnet that Win 8.1 is not working properly with PC Tools Firewall.
  2. If I may ask - which AV are you using now? Can this AV run in the safe mode? I am asking, because recently I got Ransomware in the RAR package, which I opened.... MBAM was very helpful in the Safe Mode - all gone. But MBAM has a lot false positives in "Potentially Unwanted Applications" - it attempted to kill even Chrome! I was thinking opposite. MBAM for malware of any kind and AV just for viruses, that what I mean by complimentary in the first place. Appreciate everyone's input on this matter.
  3. Thanks You got 100% on my questions. The question was not about compatibility, as I do know that most major AV are compatible with MBAM. " Basic AV that doesn't have extra anti-malware features" - which ones from commercial versions, as I want automatic updates and close to 100% detection rates and less false positives. Appreciate your help
  4. Hi Simple question. What complimentary antivirus would you recommend (I hope it is not Norton), because malwarebytes (MBAM for short) has similar functions now (was using MBAM since v1.5) as many antivirus programs and I don't want compatibility issues, and also 2 programs fighting for the same malware, so to speak. Thanks
  5. Thanks for fast reply, but I don't think it is a virus!!! I just repeated restoring my system to the point of MBAM v. 1.42. External Hard Drive is connecting as it should. Next I updated MBAM to v. 1.46 and SERVER BUSY pop up appeared after first partition autoplay, exactly the same sequence of events as before. That external HDD was wiped clean with formatting and loaded with a few mp3 file to initiate autoplay. And why the problem appears after MBAM update? Is there possibility to download and install database fingerprints without upgrading to 1.46? At least once. And for the directions recommended - this is the reason for me to have Acronis backups (full with creating new partition), I just roll back to safest point and no malaware and viruses left on my system. Thanks again.
  6. Please delete this thread, double post due to internet hang... Sorry.
  7. My first and long post. I already asked on the other forums, so far no answer, since it is related to external HDD and by coincidence I have WD Green Power in enclosure as my external HDD I post here. It started not long time ago. Description. After I connect my external USB HDD separated into into 3 logical partitions (total 1 TB) and autoplay starts reading this HDD this pop up appears "server busy switch to retry", next, autoplay stops, usually after reading 1 partition, PC becomes unresponsive, and I can turn it off by power button only. I know for fact that this my external HDD is the problem, because I did complete restore using Acronis to 1 month back (so no viruses malaware and such, and any new installations and upgrades can be blamed). Also, I attempted to connect this HDD to my backup PC and the same thing is happened. So, I tried with XP Home SP2 (main PC) and XP PRO SP2 (back up PC). At the same time I am able to connect and operate without any problems my flash drives and multiple portable external USB HDDs (with single partition each). Also, I am able to connect the problem HDD to my main PC in the Safe Mode without any problems - trying to copy all DATA to everywhere now for backup - no hardware is to blame. Partitioning of HDD was done by Paragon Partition Manager. After some testing of this problem I proceeded to the next step. All data on those 3 partitions was erased and partitions formatted. Now, when those partitions have no data I can connect this external HDD to PC using only 1 short cable (other cable combinations leading to mystery pop up), previously it was setup with the long USB extension and it was working like that for many years. Next, I loaded those partitions with some data and attempted to connect to same PC with the same cable, no way, same pop up again. Next erased all data again, and it is connecting via short cable without any problems. Conclusions: Autoplay related with Multiple partitions, and second, cable related???? Lastly, I just did another restore to 2 months back and it is working, BUT when I update all my things - problem is back. I am not blaming anyone here, rather trying to find a solution - I am using MBAM, this last restore has 1.42 version, as soon as it is upgraded to 1.46 - problem starts? Will try to do restore and MBAM update again, just in case.... Any ideas? Appreciate for any input. Thanks in advance.

  9. O.k. How about this from hosts-file.net: Query: 212.117.164.201 2 Additional match(es) found for: 212.117.164. # Hostname IP Added Class 1 g0tr00t.free-hosting.cc 212.117.164.17 16/07/2009 EMD Details 2 nahuja.ru 212.117.164.124 09/11/2008 EXP Details only #2 is malicious (I just checked), and total is 3 - so the whole range must be blocked? Range of 3 IPs? Why not just block 1 (#2)? So, hypothetically, I have a website on good range, tomorrow, someone create malicious site in the same range, all range got blocked - I have to move somewhere else?!!! Oh well, I wish there could be (it MUST BE) an option to unblock certain IPs... After all we, the end users, are taking the full responsibility for our actions (make a comment before pressing anything...) Thank you for reading...
  10. May be acid-lounge.org.uk located on shared server or shares the same IP range with some nasty thing, but by itself it the most safest thing to be in. Any help? Response? Thank you for your time... P.S. Or how to make an exception to unblock certain IP?
