That worked for me. But is it better to just have a notification that is not true rather than turning off the self-protection module (whatever that is used for)?

Thanks. I guess whatever the issue is with Browser Guard and Edge it hasn't been corrected so unless I hear otherwise I'm leaving it uninstalled.
-
I've already removed it but I'm pretty sure I got it from the Microsoft Edge Store so I'd have to download it again to see the version I was using. In any case, are you aware if this is a known issue with MB since GPT did say someone else knew to remove it to correct the issue.
-
This may have been covered sometime in the past but I'd like to get a new outlook on what is known about this possible issue.
I use WizTree and have noticed that my C drive has been increasing by quite a bit even thought I haven't been saving any new pictures or documents. I traced the growth to one folder in Edge. This is the folder tree:
\Users\name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\UserData\Default\IndexedDB. It was the last entry "IndexedDB" that was over 23GB in size and increasing daily. I did post in the Windows forum but haven't gotten an answer yet. I then asked BingGPT about this and it said a previous user found that Malwarebytes Brower Guard was the problem. He removed MB Browser Guard from Edge and said it dropped a large amount of data from that folder. I tried it and removed MB Browser Guard and that folder went from 23.8GB to 1.7GB IMMEDIATELY!
Is this a known issue with the Browser Guard? Does anyone know what's going on? I'm a beta tester for version 5 but I don't think that has anything to do with this.

I was just about to post this also. I am connected to the internet but am getting the same message (in English). It just started about the time the last .63 update occured.
I rebooted and this did not fix the issue.

Item #1 seems to be working fine for me. Clicking on the taskbar icon for "check for updates" is been working fine for me.
Item #2 is also working fine. I haven't had any of the other issues.

Deleted... a misreport. I thought this was almost fixed for me but after posting, it went back to the original problem.

Hello again,
I can confirm, this is a bug, and was introduced in 5.0.8.60.
We started working on it, and it seems like a Windows API is misreporting some size/position values under some circumstances.
It would really help us out to narrow it down more, if @brad03 you could provide OS, number of monitors, and monitor resolution, and resolution scaling %, and @Phxflyer @Soozy if you could provide your resolution scaling %.
My resolution scaling is 115%.

@Phxflyer Can you please provide some info about your OS, number of monitors, and monitor resolution please? :)
Win 11, 1 27 inch monitor, 2560x1440
I'm seeing the same problem now as Soozy with the Window opening partially off screen right. Still doesn't stay at smaller screen size that I shrink it to.

I started a post about this topic not seeing this post was here.
Every time i open MB the window reverts back to a larger window and does not maintain the sizing I set. For me, it's way too big the way it is.

Just noticed when I open MB it opens in a much larger box. You can resize it by dragging in the sides, but it doesn't stay at the smaller size when reopened. It isn't as large as it was the first time I opened it but is still larger than I'd like it.

I couldn't find reference to this but it may have been covered before.
When you right click on the MB icon in the taskbar tray and hit "check for updates" and then open MB and look at the last time it checked it for updates, it seems nothing happened during the current request. Am I missing something?

@brad03
Not sure if clicking away from the GUI..... is a problem. I get the same action when I right click on the Razer tray icon.
My bad...misunderstood what you said. Disregard.
But I did get the same problem that clicking on the tray icon and trying to update doesn't work. I posted that in another thread. Should have done that here.... I'm really getting sloppy reading lately!

It seems that in 2018 Chrome was removed from MB exploit protection at Google's request but evidently put back in at some later date. See this MB article... https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039018713-Chrome-removed-from-Anti-Exploit-list-of-Protected-Apps-in-Malwarebytes
Unless this is referring to something different.???
-
Turning off "exploit protection" allows Chrome to open for me. I also did the windows update this morning and am running the Beta 5.0.7.55 Update package 1.0.70831 Component package 1.0.939
Following Arthi's instructions also works and is probably a better way to do it.

Just a side note. When I left my house an hour or so later, saw an APS (power company here in Phoenix) truck in the alley behind our houses working on the power lines. I never expected the power to go out but this is just a "phew" glad I wasn't doing a BIOS update! It was only out for a second or two but long enough to have bricked my PC. I guess you never know for sure. I have a Gigabyte motherboard with a dual BIOS but who wants to test and see if that will work.

Ok. Ran the support tool. After uploading this I opened it out of curiosity. Although I don't know what you need to look at, I was a little stunned to see it says I'm running Win 10 Home. I've been running Win 11 since it came out and it's up to date. Hmmm???
-
Just had a momentary loss of power in the whole house. Both my PC's restarted automatically as the loss and restore was almost instantaneous. My wife's PC (Win10) is running MB 4.5.26 and Malwarebytes came back normally with no errors when the internet was restarted. The modem and router both had to restart also.
I'm running 5.0.7.55 and Win 11. When my PC restarted I got 2 error popups from MB. Realtime protection was off and did I want to turn it on and other protection was also turned off. I clicked to turn on realtime protection and then opened MB. This PC showed protection was "weak". I checked settings to see that Malware and PUP protection was turned off and I could not move the button to turn it on. I rebooted the PC and on restart it was now turned on and everything with MB seemed to be working. The note under This PC says Your protection is "strong". All items resolved.
Since both PC's showed different reactions to the power loss pertaining to Malwarebytes I'm posting this to see if what I got was normal or if something with version 5 might be glitched. I understand the popup notifications might be normal but not being able to turn on Malware and PUP protection without doing another restart didn't seem right. I'm not sure running any log at this time might not do any good as everything after the restart seems to be normal.

Hmm.... I didn't even know it was an option. I thought I was missing something as my dashboard didn't change. I had to go into settings to find out there was a Legacy Style. And I agree. it's not something I would use. You have to expand it too much to see all the boxes. I didn't see a scaler to make it the whole thing smaller. I like it the way it is.
Keep up the good work.

i haven't encountered this problem. My upper line with dark mode enabled is and has been dark grey and matches what I have set in my Windows personalization for borders when I open any app. So maybe it's a Windows thing????
-
I upgraded manually also and everything is working fine. I can't criticize, yet, that dark mode was reverted to light and I had to turn off register in Windows Security Center as I don't know if these actions will occur with a normal update. And of course the expiration date is still 12/31/22 which I'm sure will change as needed by MB staff.
-
I had that question also but figured since this copy of V5 is for a test group that the expiration on Oct 31 will update. Is this not what will happen? Since I have no desire to be running a "free" version, can we consider this "test" over and we will all revert, or have to revert to V4?
MB Browser Guard in Edge behavior

I opened a support ticket. Will have to wait to see what they have to say.
