  1. Thanks for your help. We wound up reinstalling Windows 10. Installed MWB 3.0-whatever straight away and scanned and looks OK. Not exactly sure where we went wrong but it seems like running MWB frequently and installing updates is a better idea. My son is constantly installing new things from who knows where and it's pretty hard to keep up with it. We'll also make sure to set a restore point. Any other suggestions?
  2. The article says something about an installation media. Should I try that if I cannot navigate to the reset your PC area?
  3. The problem that just started recently is not being able to see the "Allow Admin Access" dialog or whatever it's called. However, Malwarebytes itself has been crashing for a month or two.
  4. The problem started after the computer automatically downloaded an update called "Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB4013429)" on the 16th of March. Not sure if that relates to this but it might have contributed.
  5. It is impossible to run FRST from normal mode because the screen dims for the admin prompt but the prompt itself never appears. I could only run it in safe mode as it seems to not require a prompt there.
  6. Question #2, is it possible to take the drive out of the PC, connect it to a USB interface, and scan/fix it from my laptop?
  7. My son has MalwareBytes Premium installed. Even so, we seem to have a rootkit. We're having trouble launching some of the programs because they ask to confirm (or would normally) to run as admin but the issue suppresses all those dialogs. Apparently he was able to start MBAR at least in safe mode but it wants to download the database and we're not able to get the wireless network in safe mode. I had installed MBAR on my laptop and ran it, presumably it got the database there. Can I copy it to the other machine?
