  1. What should I do about the bolded line in above quote? I had installed FRST.64 only because of the "generic" virus that turned out to be the false positive for Word.exe
  2. Thank you! I checked the general tab but didn't see that I could scroll down for more. Got it now. So do i need to allow beta updates now? Since regular updating just gave me component package version 1.0.976 , do I need anything beta?
  3. Apology for typing errors, cannot edit my post. When I said "Now that I log in a new your announcement of a beta update" , what i meant to say was "Now I log in, and I see your announcement of a beta update".
  4. Hello I was away and then sick. Now reading your reply. Thank you. When this first happened, I thought I might have malware, so I did a full threatscan on Malwarebytes and then i downloaded FRST64.exe and ran a scan with that. But then I realized it was probably just a false positive, so I started this thread instead. After reading here, I disabled Malwarebytes ransomware protection, but I was unable to repair Word. Thankfully I had my 10-year-old Office 2010 disc and was able to reinstall Office. I kept Malwarebytes ransomware protection disabled. I was away but my computer was on an running regular scans. On July 3rd, the regular automated Malwarebytes scan ran, and it decided that FRST.64 was malware. This really confused me. I was too sick to contact you until now. Now that I log in a new your announcement of a beta update. I don't have any option on my Malwarebytes to receive beta updates -- it's not in any menu I can see. However I did a regular check for updates and it told me that there was update available so I told it to install it. My malwarebytes says that component package version 1.0.976 is now installed. So I guess it arrived as a regular update instead of as a beta? I disabled the ransomware protection after installing the update, just in case. Is there anything else I should do?
  5. (I started to post this in the Malware removal section but then realized it was a false positive, so I am posting here now.) I used Office 2010, the security updates are up to date. I was in the middle of typing something in Word and the Word application disappeared. The rest of the Microsoft Office Suite works, but not Word. I get this message C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\WINWORD.EXE is not a valid Win32 application. The Malwarebytes log says: Ransomware Details- File: 1 Malware.Ransom.Agent.Generic, C:\Program Files\MICROS~2\Office14\WINWORD.EXE, Blocked, 0, 392685, 0.0.0 BLOCKED I ran a Malwarebytes threat scan and it found zero problems. I tried disabling Malwarebytes ransomware protection but that doesn't matter, the whole Winword.exe doesn't work anymore. What do I do?
  6. a regular malwarebytes scan notified me that I have "PUP.Optional.Launchie" What is that? Registry Keys: 2 PUP.Optional.Launchie, HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\SCHEDULE\TASKCACHE\TASKS\{38324D7E-517B-4E55-B557-073F94A83976}, , [ddc5069d278149ed4f8625b6fa06ae52], PUP.Optional.Launchie, HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\SCHEDULE\TASKCACHE\TREE\4788, , [eeb4703395134de9c8a9558403fd837d], Registry Values: 1 PUP.Optional.Launchie, HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\SCHEDULE\TASKCACHE\TASKS\{38324D7E-517B-4E55-B557-073F94A83976}|Path, \4788, , [ddc5069d278149ed4f8625b6fa06ae52] Files: 1 PUP.Optional.Launchie, C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\4788, , [efb3bee56a3e082ec49ca9332ed20cf4],
