so i got the adwcleaner from the site but apparently when i tried to launch the installer it wouldn't work but it would be running in the background. i needed the program to get rid of PUP.Optional.Spigot but malwarebytes wouldn't remove it.

Run a threat scan to make sure if there's any malware causing problems.
