  1. This isn't a big deal, but I notice that in the security advisor after using the new installer, the item I had dismissed was no longer dismissed and was appearing as a problem again.  I had to dismiss the item again.

    Is that to be expected?

Looks like all other settings were kept just fine.

    Thanks,

Hi Bill. Thanks for trying the new installer and for your feedback.

There is an option to not create a desktop shortcut. It's accessed via the Advanced Options link on the initial installer screen.

I missed that.  I didn't go into the advanced options.  I never have to do that with other programs.  Usually advanced options is for changing where the program is installed or maybe some options of the program itself.  I typically just use the defaults.  In my experience the option to create a desktop icon is typically not buried in advanced options.  Now I know where to look.

    Thanks,

  3. Recently I have begun to get an error in security advisor saying that I have one or more problems.  The problem is that auto updates are turned off.

I've had auto updates turned off for a long time due to the problems upgrading to version 3 and then version 4.  I do have it set to tell me when there is a new version and I can decide if I want to update or not.

This is not a problem and has not been one for a long time.  Why now?  I really don't want to have it show up as an error every time I start up MB.

Can this be changed to not be an error.  I decided not to update so I know the situation.  If not, is there a way to turn security advisor off?

  4. FWIW, I also have Browser Guard and I am not getting blocked.  I can see the reviews on these two sites just fine.  I do have gTLD turned off in the options however.  If I turn it on, then I can't see the reviews either.

  5. Are you sure it is MB blocking access?  I am using the latest version of MB and I can see the reviews on those pages just fine.

If you can, post a screenshot of the blocking message you are getting.  This will help the experts determine what is going on.

  6. This is still very confusing to us users.  At the very least could the version that will be installed by the offline installer be specified on the web page where the offline installer link is?  I've rarely seen a program where it is not possible on the download page to see what program version is going to be installed.

While MB obviously thinks everything if fine and no changes are necessary, users keep complaining about this and nothing is done.  Not a good PR stance to have.

  7. Kyle,

SUMo has the correct version number listed.  All good there.

The issue @lmacri and I are referring to is that the offline installation program version number is not the  same as the version number of the Malwarebytes version it is installing, but rather the version of the offline installer program itself.  This is confusing.  We think it would be much less confusing if the offline installer had the same version number as the version of Malwarebytes that it installs.

As it stands now, the best way to know would be to correlate the "CU" octet I mentioned in my earlier post, with a forum announcement post.

For example, the installer has this in it's name
    full installer mb4-setup-consumer-4.4.6.231-1.0.1464-1.0.45264.exe

Erix posted this when we released (bold is mine)
version 4.4.7.134 component package 1.0.1464 is available now.

    Bob,

OK... thanks for the explanation.  I read through this the first time you posted it, but I guess I missed what you were saying.  This is very clear.

    Thanks!

  9. I thought that was the case.  So, the offline installer won't always install the latest update available via "check for updates".  It first has to be updated and tested.

Hence my confusion.  How do I tell if the offline installer link on the website has been updated yet so I know it will install the most recent version of MB?

  10. @tetonbob,

I am not a programmer.  I do not understand what you are saying.

When I do an update from within MB does it use the latest released stub (Online) MBSetup?  Version 4.4.6.231 of the stub installs version 4.4.7?

The full (Offline) installer is named the same as the online installer so it also installs 4.4.7?

i still think this could be made a lot less confusing for us non-programmer non-Malwarebytes employees.  At the very least you could show the MBSetup version AND the MB version that will be installed.

    Thanks.

Greetings. Thanks for your reports. We've reproduced and filed a defect for this issue. Note that this is not a functional bug, only a display bug.

It has to do with the different delivery method of the latest version 4.4.7.134-1.0.1464. An update with an MBSetup installer is not similarly affected.

Regarding the naming convention of the full installer mb4-setup-consumer-4.4.6.231-1.0.1464-1.0.45264.exe
What this notates is the installer_version-component_package_version-update_package_version, aka installer-CU-DU

So the offline installer named mb4-setup-consumer-4.4.6.231-1.0.1464-1.0.45264.exe will actually install 4.4.7.134-1.0.1464?

If so, this is really confusing.  I think you should say on the offline installer website what version will be installed.  No one cares what version of the installer it is.  They only care what version of MB is going to be installed.  I didn't download and install this because I thought it would install the last MB version which was 4.4.6.  I don't know if others have also been confused by this.

So I used the support tool to uninstall and re-install version 4.4.7 which of course wiped out all my settings which I had to go in and redo which is a real pain.

  12. I guess I'm missing something then.  What is the tamper protection for?  I thought it was to protect you from someone tampering with the settings or uninstalling the program altogether.  All someone would have to do is to keep a copy of the support tool on hand and they could uninstall any Malwarebytes installation they wanted to.  Seems like a security risk to me.
