  1. @exile360 Interesting reading. Thanks for the explanation and the links. @Porthos I try to use all the tools I can. The custom scan is just one of those tools. The key word in your reply is "most". It might be helpful in some cases so not a total waste. I do a threat scan every day, but I still feel better doing a custom scan once a week. Over the years it has found a few items. Thanks for the reply though. Bill
  2. @Porthos Sorry to butt in on this thread, but could you tell us what it does target then? My custom scan runs for over 3 1/2 hours. What is it targeting? Thanks, Bill
  3. Yes, that is why I wondered if the original issue in my post was supposedly fixed in 4.1.0. So far it seems to have been fixed in that it seems to never open to one of the protected tabs. Bill
  4. Doesn't happen that way for me. I went into settings and it opened to the About tab. I went to the Display tab. I then closed the settings "window". I went back into settings and it opened to the About tab. So I'm not sure why sometimes it opened to the Display tab. Does anyone know if this issue was supposed to have been fixed in 4.1.0? Thanks Bill
  5. It the new version 4.1.0 clicking on the settings cog wheel usually takes me to the About tab. If I try to access any other tab I am prompted for my password... with the exception of the Display tab. I'm assuming this is as planned as there is no option in access control for that tab. When it doesn't open to the About tab, it opens to the Display tab. Why would it sometimes open to the Display tab instead of always opening to the About tab? Does this mean a fix for this issue was in 4.1.0? If so, the issue appears to be fixed. if not, I guess it is just coincidence that it is now only opening to the About or Display tabs. Bill
  6. Another update. OK, it has now been over a week since I disabled the Nvidia audio drivers and re-enabled web protection in MB. I have had no freezing and buzzing. So I guess, for me at least, the problem may have been those drivers. In any case, I guess my issue has been fixed. I'll post again if I run into any issues on this in the future. Thanks all, Bill
  7. OK. Thanks for the update. Unfortunately you guys don't publish a list of what is actually fixed in each update so we don't know. Bill

    CNN - FP?

It looks like this has been fixed. I'm not getting blocked now.
  9. It appears to be fixed now. I am no longer being blocked.
  10. @AdvancedSetup I just installed the latest beta and the problem still exists. Bill
  11. The original problem posted in this thread is still not fixed in the latest beta 1.0.835. Bill
  12. Looks like this one has been fixed in the latest beta 1.0.835. Thanks! Bill
  13. @lcfx_lain That is not quite what I am experiencing. My PC doesn't stutter and the sound doesn't get worse over time. For me when the problem occurs it just freezes my PC for 4 or 5 seconds and while this is happening the PC makes a buzzing sound out of the speakers. Then it is fine until the next time it happens. I've had it happen as many as 3 or 4 times in a day and then it can go for many days without a problem. At first I thought it was related to streaming video from the web, but then it happened when I was watching a DVD and not streaming. Bill
  14. Another update. I have now gone 4 days with web protection enabled and with the Nvidia HD audio drivers disabled and I have not experienced the problem. As I mentioned earlier, the problem sometimes doesn't manifest itself for days so I'm still waiting to see if it happens. I'll get back with another update next week or when it happens (if it does). Bill
  15. OK... I disabled the Nvidia HD audio drivers and re-enabled web protection in MB. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks, Bill
  16. I am not using the speakers in my monitors. I use external speakers, so I could disable the Nvidia audio drivers. The thing I don't understand is why this would have anything to do with web protection in Malwarebytes being enabled or disabled. Should I go ahead and disable these drivers and turn web protection back on and see what happens? I don't want to interfere with whatever investigation @LiquidTension is doing. Thanks, Bill
  17. Hi @LiquidTension Yes, I do have those drivers installed. Here are the logs you requested. Thanks, Bill mbst-grab-results.zip
  18. Also, I have changed the title of this thread. As I mentioned in comment #9, the problem happened the other day when I was not streaming. So I've changed the title to "Intermittent system freezing and buzzing" which are the symptoms I am experiencing. Bill
  19. Another update. I have gone since last Wednesday with web protection turned off and have not experienced the problem. So... it appears that it is web protection that is causing the problem. I don't like to run with that feature turned off so I was wondering what steps you would like me to take now in order to help you figure out what is going on. Thanks, Bill
  20. Now when I open and click on the settings cog wheel it is opening the settings to the Allow List tab without prompting me for my password. Once there I am able to add items to the allow list without having to enter my password. For a security program this seems like a major bug and should be fixed asap. At the very least About tab should be the default tab so that nothing of any importance is available prior to entering the password. Bill
  21. Less than a day after turn web protection back on I have had two instances of everything freezing for about 3 or 4 seconds with a buzzing sound. I was not streaming anything from the web. I was watching a DVD on one screen and I opened a document in EditPad Lite on another screen. It was when I opened the document in EditPad Lite that everything froze up. It cleared itself up and everything continued as normal. Since I wasn't streaming at the time, I'm not sure if web protection is really involved, but I will turn it back off and see what happens. Bill
  22. I went to the site https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update and got a block on ipv4.login.msa.akadns6.net which as far as I can tell is the logon for the site. I did a virus total and it isn't flagged anywhere. Here is the detection log.
