I have unticked scan rootkits and will scan for rootkits once in a while.
I am not sure if there were any slowdowns. I do know a couple years back I had a horrific malware which unclicked the current window every few seconds and after reinstalling windows and re-mounting a drive on which the malware was saved, it would start unclicking again. There was not a single anti-virus or anti-malware that could help me. Nothing was able to detect it.
Looking back, that could have been due to conflicts.
Hence I have added those files to Nortons SONAR, auto protect, download intelligence and on demand scanner.
I was not sure which Norton Security files I should add to Malwarebytes' exception list. I contacted support and the guy was practically useless by saying that's not necessary. By the end of the exchange, he honestly told me he had no idea what each executable did. After this experience, I might switch to a different AV suite after my subscription. Anyways, I started a scan and found NS.exe in one of the folders was using CPU resources. So I added NS.exe to Malwarebytes' exception list. Does anyone know if there are any others I should add?
I have removed the folder exceptions as well.
