  1. Well, currently, I see the Turn on Fast Startup and Hibernate boxes unchecked, so I'm good, right? I think I turned it off for another issue that's popped up recently (monitor not receiving signal after coming back from sleep). And to answer your other question, whenever I do a manual scan I make sure to have MBAM Premium update to the latest version. I just checked and the version is 4.1.0.56, update p.v. 1.0.25464, component p.v. 1.0.931. Anyway, I went ahead and turned off real-time protection and unregistered the program in the Security Center, so Windows Defender is now the real-time cop on the beat.
  2. To revisit this topic, the problem recurred, but honestly I wasn't all that diligent about rebooting every time I did a scan. Why is that particularly important? Does web protection (the thing that seems to screw up Firefox on occasion) get turned on somehow when doing a manual scan?
  3. Never mind, I hunted down the installation program in the users/xxxx/AppData/Local/temp folder and it ran fine. I suspect MBAM Premium just doesn't/didn't like the behavior by which you initiate the process while the old version of VLC Media player is running, and you tell the update program to close the current version and do the update.
  4. Media Player Classic? VLC has been my go to because everything else I ever tried would require me to download codecs blah blah blah instead of playing things hassle free.
  5. Thanks for the link. I posted the same info as above where you indicated. We'll see what happens. It's not the first time MBAM Premium has blocked a VLC Media Player update.
  6. No, I've left all that as is, so it's not checked. I'll post what I posted above in the false positives forum, although it doesn't have to do with the web protection component as far as I can see.
  7. How the heck to edit an existing post of mine, anyway? Is that not a feature of this forum software?
  8. That's what my MBAM Premium gives as a version as well. I'll try again today and see what it says. OK, here it is: Malwarebytes www.malwarebytes.com -Log Details- Protection Event Date: 5/13/20 Protection Event Time: 6:14 PM Log File: 3be48e90-9580-11ea-86bb-704d7b294b36.json -Software Information- Version: 4.1.0.56 Components Version: 1.0.896 Update Package Version: 1.0.23786 License: Premium -System Information- OS: Windows 10 (Build 18362.836) CPU: x64 File System: NTFS User: System -Exploit Details- File: 0 (No malicious items detected) Exploit: 1 Malware.Exploit.Agent.Generic, C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\vlc-3.0.10-win64.exe, Blocked, 0, 392684, 0.0.0 -Exploit Data- Affected Application: VLC Player Protection Layer: Application Behavior Protection Protection Technique: Exploit payload file blocked File Name: C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\vlc-3.0.10-win64.exe URL: (end)
  9. That's what my MBAM Premium gives as a version as well. I'll try again today and see what it says.
  10. This is surely a false positive, no? Windows 10 build 1909 fully updated, same for MBAM Premium as of today. VLC Media player 3.0.8 blocked from updating to 3.0.10
  11. Thanks. It's a bit hidden but it's there. Did it always used to be that buried?
  12. OK, it's a Threat Scan, but if I wanted to do a full scan on demand, where is the setting for it? I've combed through the settings. It seems like the only way is to schedule a scan and set the parameters, but right now I've turned scheduled scans off to troubleshoot an issue between MBAM Pro and Firefox.
  13. It just seems ridiculously fast for the number of files present on my machine with an SSD boot drive and four physical HDDs, a couple of which are divided into multiple logical volumes. How can I make sure it's checking everything? I don't see the option in the Settings.
  14. OK, so every time I do a manual scan during this experiment, I'll have to reboot the machine thereafter. Got it. I'll let you know if the problem recurs.
  15. So to make sure I understand: turn off scheduled scans, reboot the computer, then only run a manual scan with MBAM occasionally, followed by a machine reboot?
  16. Thanks, I should have figured the notification part out for myself. Alas, despite turning off web protection the problem just recurred yesterday: No tabs would load at all in Firefox until I rebooted. I checked for updates to MBAM before doing so, but there were none. I'm sorely tempted to unregister MBAM from the Security Center in Windows and turn off all real-time protection, turn Defender back on and just schedule a weekly scan with MBAM.
  17. How strange, I had those settings configured as you've indicated, but the program hadn't notified me. BTW, having turned the web protection off temporarily, is there any way to get MBAM not to pester me about it every time I start Firefox? I've gone ahead and done as you instructed. We'll see if the problem recurs. It's very intermittent in any case, and rebooting the computer always fixes it.
  18. Hi @Porthos and thanks for the reply. Do you prefer that I email the resulting zip file in (with the logs) or should I attach it to a post here?* *The problem I described is only intermittent, and happened a couple of days ago the last time. I think I've also observed that it only happens when there's an update of MBAM, but not certain of that. The link you provided says that I should wait for an email sent by the Malwarebytes support team.
  19. Every once in a while I'll start up Firefox and literally none of my tabs will load their pages. This doesn't seem to affect Edge for some reason. The reason I figure it's a problem with Malwarebytes Premium is that when it happens, if I turn off web protection (which of course Mwbytes complains about), when I try to start it again I get an error message. The only thing that fixes the issue is to reboot the computer entirely.
  20. Thanks for the reply. Now it seems to have gone away. I did close one tab between my last session and this one, so maybe it was from that webpage.
  21. Hello, every time I open Firefox on Windows 10 now I get a "website blocked due to fraud" notification. The site is supposedly "chirb.it" and it's an outbound connection that is blocked. I suppose I could close tabs and reopen Firefox till it stops happening to try to isolate it further.

    VLC update

Thanks, I updated VLC just fine last night.
  23. Is this what you need? It downloads fine, but as soon as it starts installing MWbytes premium stops it. Mwbytes_log_VLC.txt

    VLC update

I just ran into this one today at around 3:30 Pacific Daylight Time.
