It is dangerous to run overlapping programs. It is quite possible that neither will be able to properly handle malware with the other interfering. MBAM works with AV programs, but should not be paired with other antimalware solutions. Obviously, you have a conflict with no assurance that either ESET or MBAM will be effectively managing the threat.- 4 replies

Assuming you have a licensed version V3 has added antimalware and antiransomware features that do not exist on v2. Also, v2 is no longer supported, although, for the current time, signature updates still occur. Version 3 is safe to use. It's been around since late 2016, and has gone through many refinements since then. Download the current v3 release here: https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3 If you're running v2, it may be helpful to remove it using the Clean-MB tool. More info here: -
You mentioned you're connecting to your work VPN. Perhaps there's a connection there, or a shared VPN point that's registered to Avast. Input: 91.214.44.133canonical name: vpn-gw-prod-002.lux0-alt.ff.avast.comRegistered Domain: avast.com If the block isn't impairing your connection, I would ignore it (leave it blocked).
