There are I would say more issues to fix before adding extra controls to opt out of messages. It all falls into what things to fix first.

Except it's been going on two years and adding an opt-out option in v4 would have been trivial for the programmers.

If there are issues (clearly there are) with the main Malwarebytes software... perhaps the priority should be fixing them and not creating additional products.

    Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

The intention of the message was more for education and to provide awareness around our mobile line of products (which offer completely free versions as well).  But I can totally understand how this could be seen as promotional and unwanted.

We are working on providing an option to allow opt out of promotional messages, so hope to have that available soon.

And these sorts of messages should definitely not steal focus, so we'll get that fixed as well.

This message only went to a subset of users and is only set to display one time, so if you've already seen it you shouldn't see it again.  :)

Your quick feedback on these issues definitely helps, so it is very much appreciated!

I just got another popup for a Privacy add on or additional product.  There have been other occasional marketing pop-ups since I created this thread.

It's been almost two years and still no option to opt out of these messages.  Why is this taking so long to implement?

    Greetings,

This issue occurs once a new version/upgrade has already been downloaded and is awaiting installation.  The settings only control how notifications/upgrades are handled before that happens.  You can find further details on how to eliminate these notifications in this support article as well as this support article.

I hope this helps, and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know.

    Thanks

And the behavior I just described happens on every PC I manage with Malwarebytes on.  Disabling full version notification and deleting the instlrupdate folder only works for less than a day until the instlrupdate has to be deleted AGAIN.

Yes...  I'm well aware of both of those links.  Neither one keeps it from coming back.  I disabled the full upgrade notification when V4 was first announced.  Still got and continue to get the upgrade notification.  I've deleted the instlrupdate folder no less than 5 times now including again between my first post and this one.  That was less than 12 hours before the nag came back.

Again I ask, how do i PERMANENTLY disable the upgrade notification?

  5. Ok so what was the point in v3 of having the option to disable notification of when a full version is available?  V3.8.3 will NOT take no for an answer.  Deleting the installer folder out of ProgramData only solves the issue for a few days (or less) now.  When you release a new version of the MBSetup.exe file, the upgrade notification comes back anyways.

Page after page of V4 issues here on the forums have convinced me to stay far away from V4 for the foreseeable future.

What can be done to PERMANENTLY block the upgrade notification until I decide to upgrade?  At this point it is bordering on harassment.

  6. The current issue with Chrome/Firefox flagging the current installer reminded me about this and it's also being blocked as malware despite being much older.

The "Free Download" link off https://www.malwarebytes.com/ leads to a different, non current, installer "mb3-setup-54035.54035-3.6.1.2711-1.0.482-1.0.7469"

    https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3_54035

    instead of

    https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3

    What's with the different installer?

  7. Still with version 3.5.1 I am seeing these random mbamservice.exe issues where it's at 25% and the system is running so slow it's useless.  With 3.4.5 it was the ransomware module.  Disabling that in 3.5.1 seems to solve the problem.

This is happening randomly with multiple customers.  My customers aren't interested in me running your support tool and taking up their time diagnosing the issues with your program.  All of the issues lately with Malwarebytes isn't acceptable.  The drawbacks of running the program are coming close to outweighing it's benefit.

  8. Is there a reason the Malwarebytes 3 installer won't accept lifetime or v2 keys?  This is happening repeatedly with different keys and different PCs.  I enter the id and key but the activate button never lights up.  So far the only fix is to uninstall v3, install MBAM v2, activate and then update to v3.

Today's scenario...  Client's PC freezing up.  Isolated the issue down to MBAM v2 by deactivating, uninstalling v2, rebooting and testing.  Installed v3 but could not get the activation button to light up.  Uninstalled v3, rebooted again, cleared the leftover folders in ProgramData, installed v2, activated then upgraded to v3.  This is plain silly...  even more so for the average home user with little or no technical experience.

The lifetime and v2 keys, as they are still valid, should activate v3 without issue... but they aren't accepted by the v3 installer.

ok It has been 4 min without a pop up. 1404 update on ver 3.0 but more importantly to me, what kind of moron does not display the same info (originating program) in the scan report that is displayed in the fleeting pop up window. The engineers should corner the ux designer and beat the crap out of him with a cluestick.

Exactly... what was wrong with the y.m.d.xxx format where xxx is a running number for the day?

If you've got the latest updates and are still having this issue, please restart your machine.

Still does not fix the issue... svchost.exe is now being blocked to the same IP (239.255.255.250) as soon as the machine boots.  Good job!!!

  11. Same thing here... multiple PCs, multiple locations.  Updating the database doesn't help.  (Where the heck is the database version listed in v3???)

However my v2.2.1 MBAM install isn't having the issue just those running the <beta/unstable> v3.0.6.

Edit: rebooting the PC after the update as recommended in one of the other threads about this issue makes no difference... Error remains.
