  1. Screen317- yuck! i was afraid this was where we were headed, but, i do have the resinstall disk from dell with XPpro SP2- i assume it is workable for this? i have not done a reformat before- any special process or just follow my manual to reinstall XP? thanks for all your help. jram
  2. screen317- sorry i've been slow getting back- downloaded 7 ran f-scan, during it wanted disk to restore windows, without doing that, i had to select "yes" to keeping "unrecognized versions"- don't know if that affected results, but here they are: won't let me post- too long so i've attached it. then i downloaded your security check (got icon on desktop) but says can't find "securitycheck\securitycheck.bat", so it won't run. again- thanks for all you're doing- jram f_scan_report.zip
  3. screen317- here you go- not what i wanted to see- hope this is easy to fix/change- Running from: C:\Documents and Settings\james\Desktop\Win32kDiag.exe Log file at : C:\Documents and Settings\james\Desktop\Win32kDiag.txt WARNING: Could not get backup privileges! Searching 'C:\WINDOWS'... Finished!
  4. screen317- thanks- but still no luck. followed for the download OK, entered your commandline as above, got the unknown publisher window, hit run and then i just got the little block progress window like i did when i tried on my own- never went to the combofix window "preparing to run" or "disclaimer" windows as shown to expect in instructions..... what's next? jram
  5. screen 317- a search doesn't show a log file- and it didn't seem to run properly (the info i had read showed windows/screens i didn't get) all i got was the time lapse window for a few seconds during the scan- then nothing so whats next? thanks- jram
  6. hi guys- i've got hijak.windowUpdates that won't go away. MWB finds, isolates, & deletes- but it comes back immediately. I tried combo-fix with no luck either. thanks for your help- here's my scans: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 2:23:11 PM, on 10/2/2009 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16876) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\WLTRAY.exe C:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\KADxMain.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe C:\Program Files\Dell\MediaDirect\PCMService.exe C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\pptd40nt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxsrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Maxtor\OneTouch Status\maxmenumgr.exe C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security 14\TMAS_OE\TMAS_OEMon.exe C:\Program Files\DellAutomatedPCTuneUp\PTAgnt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Program Files\Dell Network Assistant\ezi_hnm2.exe C:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect\DLG.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business\Business Contact Manager\BcmSqlStartupSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Dell Network Assistant\hnm_svc.exe C:\Program Files\Maxtor\Sync\SyncServices.exe c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlwriter.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe R1 -
