Does Malwarebytes block Cookie Loggers?
ManfredLC replied to ModifiedWater's topic in Malwarebytes for Mac Support Forum
I have installed the Malwarebytes extension both on Firefox and Chrome. Will this extension ever be available on Safari? -
Hi, I have a question about the newly implemented scheduled scan feature when using Malwarebytes Free. The complimentary scheduled monthly scan will happen on the same day of each month and at the same time. What happens if the Mac is asleep (not turned off, just asleep) on that date and at that time? - Will Malwarebytes wake up the Mac to proceed with the scan? - Or will the scheduled scan be delayed and happen on waking the Mac? - Or none of the above? TIA -- Manfred

Hi, for starters, you could use the extension named ScamZapper, which provides protection against scam pseudo technical popups: https://sites.google.com/site/appleclubfhs/downloads/scamzapper-info Hth -- Manfred -

High memory usage, even with real-time protection off
ManfredLC replied to Clef's topic in Mac Malware Removal Help & Support
Hi Clef, I had the same issue using Malwarebytes on a French Mac running El Capitan, only worse: the daemon was using 600MB of memory after only 2 hours of use, and rising! Here's what I did: 1) Deactivate RealTime protection 2) Kill the daemon via Activity Monitor. The deamon relaunched immediately, but it's been using between 53 Mb and 63 Mb of memory ever since. Unable to install v. 3.0 on OS X
ManfredLC replied to jipnet's topic in Mac Malware Removal Help & Support
Hi Thomas, a 3rd party tool like OnyX still allows to repair permissions on demand if the automated repair fails. -
Thanks for the good news! :-) Manfred

... except claiming excessive amounts of RAM, which is a /big/ something Manfred

Hi alvarnell, in Activity Monitor, select the Memory tab, and look for RTProtectionDaemon (see attachment). You should find it. It is definitely part of MBAM 3.x, and has already been discussed in another topic on the forum. Cheers Manfred

Ok Thomas, thanks for looking into this! Hope you can fix it. Manfred

Hi Hawaii, here's what I did to solve this permanently (quoting myself from a recent thread): "I had the same issue using Malwarebytes on a French Mac running El Capitan, only worse: the daemon was using 600MB of memory after only 2 hours of use, and rising! Here's what I did 5 days ago: 1) Deactivate RealTime protection 2) Kill the daemon via Activity Monitor. The deamon relaunched immediately, but it's been using between 53 Mb and 63 Mb of memory ever since." Hth Manfred

is RTProtectionDaemon a legit part of Malwarebytes?
ManfredLC replied to LarB's topic in Malwarebytes for Mac Support Forum
Well Thomas, it seems like Muckaluck's post does describe that kind of issue... Manfred -

Malwarebytes 3 and EICAR File detection
ManfredLC replied to ManfredLC's topic in Malwarebytes for Mac Support Forum
Ok, thanks a lot for this helpful link! Manfred -
I'm currently running and testing version 3, and more specifically the Real-Time protection feature. I downloaded an EICAR file to see if Malwarebytes would react to it, and it didn"t, whereas the system (ie, Xprotect) immediately advised me to trash the file. I'd like to understand why the EICAR file didn't trigger any response from Malwarebytes. TIA Manfred
