  1. I stumbled over this fix for Malwarebytes while I was trying to fix a Windows 10 problem. Microsoft tries to use your computer by default to distribute their software. I would guess that saves money on access fees. What I had happen was that 4 nights in a row i was virtually blocke from internet access by heavy downloads lasting 20-30 minutes. My usage file at my ISP said I was getting anywhere from 2 to 6 Gbytes in these downloads and there was no record of files being loaded. I could see the IP addresses responsible in the Resource Monitor. 3 were Microsoft Azure and the 4th was from a private Internet service company. This had to be from the Delivery Optimization function that Microsoft loads on all Windows 10 installations. This happened after the Anniversary update. There were two updates after that dated Sept 16 and Sept 30. I had to go to the Restore Point for Sept 16 to get control back for my touchpad but that didn't stop the downloads. The basic instructions that come with Win 10 say go to the Settings and turn the Optimization off there. I had already done that but I still had the downloads that started after the update. After flogging my way through a bunch of internet pages I came up with the instructions for turning this off in the Local Group Policy. The fix for Malwarebytes that happened was plain serendipity. I haven't a clue why that happened. I am very much an amateur and I just bash my way through help pages on the net until I find how to do things, solving one problem at a time, so I'm not going to try to walk you through this one. If you don't find something from the forum, find a friend or a friendly tech that can do this. If they know what they are doing it will only take a few minutes. I also have no idea if this will work for you, but it could be worth a try. At the very least it will put paid to any problems with Optimization. This version of Windows is an unpredictable mess. I have had more problems with it in the last few weeks than in all my experience with Windows since version 3.1 put together.
  2. I thought I had posted the initial question on this topic a couple of days ago, but I can't find it, which would explain why I didn't get a reply. I have managed to correct it but it was bizarre enough I thought I would post the solution. I was having a problem not being able to connect to the Malwarebytes update server. Since the dashboard starts off looking for updates, it wouldn't run even on an old set of descriptions. I was looking for a reason why I was getting huge temporary downloads without any residues so I gave up on Malwarebytes and went looking for another solution. It felt like the Microsoft Delivery Optimization, but I had that turned off in Settings. After lurching through 40 or 50 web pages, I decided to try modifying the Local Group Policy. When I got to the Optimization function, it was unconfigured. I changed it to HTTP only and that stopped the downloads. Immediately after that I had access to the update server and could run Malwarebytes. I will leave it to the folks that make the big bucks to figure out why. This is not the only bug that I have had to hack at to fix in Windows 10. The next one is figuring out why my FixMeStick is crashing my system. I already solved the one that had my touchpad spazzing. Hurray for Windows 10 1607 !*#!
  3. SOLVED I was able to get to the Malwarebytes site by deleting the tabs in my browser and creating a new one. This came up with my normal home page and I coul get the download. I hadn't tried this earlier because my ISP does something similar but when I delete and create a new tab, it comes up with the same advertising page that I get on bootup. Malewarebytes did find a rogue file as did Vipre, "MoboMarket035.apk" on my sd card (in Downloads) but couldn't remove it. I had to delete this one manually. Then I removed the RCPRingtones app from myFiles and my phone now appears to be clean
  4. I just downloaded a ringtone app from the Google Play Store and I have just started to get a compete redirect to live.banachpuritanamount. The first page wants me to spin a slot app for $4M and change. The second page is asking for permisson to scan my phone to see if they have any apps that would be useful for my Samsung S4. It is aggressive enough that it tries to block a restart or powerdown I have deleted the file that was downloaded without any effect on this **!!@!!. Is there any way of getting a malwarebytes scan & clean when I can't access the internet?
